Suggestion - maybe best deck abusing ETB effects? We have decent tools to rinse repeat and it was a big strategy in Magic 2015 with cards like seance about and beasts like Pelakka Wurm. Go Jund!

Sort of already on the table with blink.dec... but yeah, could be fun.

Okay, to actually be serious you can mark me down as agreeing with Barney for pretty much everything (surely this is one of the signs of the apocalypse?!) apart from spike decks. I'm already rowing crew in the showdown; I'd like to do something that challenges us to use our inner Johnny (why does that sound so wrong?).

Hahaha. Everything about this post is great.

I too have the inner Timmy/Johnny who coerces me to build for them. Those bastards!

For me the ideal situation is Joker comes up with themes that are general enough that spikes, johnnies and timmys can ALL build something to attack that.

Joker says build x

Gem and Vert make super spike variants
Sleephumper makes a Johnny version
Elk makes a Timmy version
Timh makes something that loses

i thought of you right away but I honestly don't know if you're a spike or a timmy. You're not a Johnny I think. I almost put you with Elk but i couldn't figure out what you were :(

Then I'm in good company. :D

For what it's worth, I consider myself to be a Johnny builder, but I try to only post spike results on NGA. If you saw the stuff I try, you'd immediately realize I'm totally Johnny - combo decks, odd interactions, trying to make cards works... this is what I'm always doing. Usually ending in complete failures, which is why they don't get posted here. Side note: it's also why, when I say a card is 'bad' it's usually a heavily tested opinion.

1. I don't really mind whatever way this is done, but I do like the idea (for certain challenges at least - not necessarily every one) of doing themes that allow for the builders to choose whichever colors they please. I liked those threads (I haven't seen in a few seasons) that would list a card (like Elemental Bond or Neglected Heirloom) and people would post lists from all different color combos building around it. It was cool to see the variety in different color builds.

2. I'd say anonymous, but don't really care that much one way or the other.

3. 1 week to build, 1 week to test seems fine. It was difficult timing with the tournament looming for the first challenge, but normally I think that timeline is good.

4. 2 votes per user seemed good. Allows people to vote for the one that played the best, and still having a bone to toss to the one that's most thematic. Or pitty vote

5. The flicker challenge is fine by me.

1. "i choose 3 colors and the deckbuilder can decide any combination of them using 1, 2 or all 3 of them" - I like this over total freedom so it keeps the decks somewhat comparable but there is a good deal of freedom still with 3 colors.

2. Anonymous decklists sounds fun, doesn't really matter to me though.
(My decks will always stick out like a sore thumb that has been hammered over and over but somehow wins in glorious ways... or not at all.)

3. Time- 1 week to build is good. 1 -2 weeks to test? I probably will post my deck then edit it as I refine it.

4. Voting system - 2 votes is good

5. Theme - I like the idea of focusing on a mechanic. Lifegain, landfall, emerge, tokens, hexproof, prowess, haste, deathtouch, delirium. It all sounds fun, but instead of say improvise I would rather say the theme would be "artifact synergies" because artifacts can matter to a deck without say going full out impovise. Seems everyone wants to go flicker, I find that kind of boring but whatever. I haven't brewed a flicker deck yet so I might be behind the curve on that one.

Ey, I have been really busy last week, nice to see this keeps on

I think annonymity makes bias easier...but it's not that important anywys

I'd like restrictive themes with color freedom, to maximize creativity, which I think it's the funny part of this

Suggestions: Mechanized Production deck, Blood Mist deck, Fireshadow deck, wizards-only deck, elemmentals-only deck, creatureless deck, just-creatures deck, marionette master deck, atog deck

Or even really janky ones would be fun, like gold-colored cards+artifacts only, which I don't even know if feasible, just pulled it out from my butt

Oh, and I'd say I tend to be Jonhny Spiked...in fact, I tend to build pretty similar to DJ, from the participants here

Ok, this is what i ended up with.
About the colors, as someone said, i will provide color constraints or leave complete freedom depending on the theme, if it is way too generic or it limits colors by itself.
About anonymous/identified decklists, i don't really care about making the contest more fair, i was only thinking what option could make the poll discussion more funny. I will try anonymous this week and then decide.
The rest is fine, i appreciated the suggestions, so next weeks we could see contests around a theme, or a mechanic, or a single card. But i think no spike decks for now, there is enough jank to be explored :P
Also check this thread for next round viewtopic.php?f=38&t=17763, i will post every round here, while i will make a new thread for every poll.
Here's round 2 viewtopic.php?f=38&t=17763&p=538926#p538926

Damn it! I was too late with my suggestion to build a deck wherein no creatures can have ETB effects, powers, or abilites. Just straight creatures! If it has flying, +1/+1 near open liquor containers, or extreme allergic reactions to zombies... out of the game!

Possibly next weeks, if it's not jank we don't want that decklist here. It has been already built for the Xbox tourney, i could see it as source of inspiration :P

I just reAlized a great suggestion for building theme contests would be to target troublesome quests

"Make a deck that consistently generates 15 energy or more AND wins"

"Make a deck that taps as many artifacts as possible (improvise?) and wins"

1. Reroll this quest, or beat face with a good Gruul Energy list until your opponent quits then dick around til you get 15 energy.

2. I dunno, Thopters or something.

2. Rakdos Aethergrid Eggs. Tap ALL THE THINGS! When opp rage quits over all the individual triggers and Revolution checks, you can deck yourself vs AI replacement and finish the challenge in one game.

Did you try the decks I linked you to from CGB? Both of them work quite well for those two quests. Like I said in that thread, the rakdos eggs deck will definitely do the 100 artifacts quest but its also my favorite deck from this season. There's just a LOT of activations especially when you have to race against the timer.

Edit. Scooped again because I post slow. :fistshake: @ TIMH
