Planeswalkers, Welcome…
Please ensure you read the whole post, and that includes the links. Things have changed with Aether Revolt…
***Welcome to the Fight Club: Aether Revolt Edition!***
Whether you are a player or participant, I’d like to welcome you to the tournament! My name is Kryder and I am the Evil Overlord for this tournament! I run these tournaments to provide a fun and competitive tournament environment and to showcase our players within the community.
**
Participants**
Players are expected to contact their opponents in a timely manner after Match pairings go up every week and should keep in contact with me if they are unavailable at any point during the tournament. When in doubt if you should contact me about something, contact me!
Participants are expected to record or stream their games. Games can be recorded via 3rd party recording software (such as OBS or other suitable freeware) or via the native twitch app in the XBox store and save via autoarchive. After the game, only the winner of the match is required to post video links to their recording (This is a change from previous tournaments...see the rules for Recording/Streaming for more details).
For persons requiring assistance setting up a Twitch.tv stream, NGA’s very own Nighthawk has produced a short video located
HERE to help set it up. Please also remember to set your bitrate to 2500 to avoid a jerky video and use the “Archive Broadcast” feature which is in the description of the video. This is set up for Steam users but might be of some help for the console crowd.
I would also recommend doing some test streams before your matches to make sure everything is working. If you have any trouble, please do not hesitate to ask.
If you do stream your match via Twitch.tv, I would prefer that you either minimize the chat window or minimize Twitch for the match, but no one is required to do so by any rules. I realize many players (and audience members as well) like to interact during the match, and that is great. However, if I feel there is a perception of coaching and/or cheating, the player will be punished accordingly.
Remember, this is a free, fun, tournament. Let the players play, stay out of your opponents Twitch stream, and stay out of their decision making.

**Tournament Rules**
1. Commitment - This is the first rule because it is the most important of all. Tournament rounds will last a maximum of 7 days and it is your responsibility to complete your matches in a timely manner. Anyone who misses a deadline (without first contacting me) will be immediately dropped from the tournament and excluded from any future tournaments. If you can't fully commit to this tournament then simply don't join it. If there are mitigating circumstances on why your games cannot be played or you are having issues contacting your opponent, you need to contact me soonest. After the 3rd round, I will be accepting drops from players with no repercussions in future tournaments.
If you will be unavailable for any length of time during the tournament you need to let me know so I am not blindsided by your absence. You should also let your opponent know, if possible.
2.
Tournament Format - The tournament is a 5-round Swiss tournament. The top 8 players will then play single elimination until there is a single winner. All rounds are best of 3 games, with the exception of the final match, which is best of 5 games.
There are no Sideboards for this tournament.3.
Decklists - Each player will register one (1) deck of 60+ cards. All decks will be submitted in secret to me and then published once all submissions have been received. Once you have settled on you deck list, send it in to me by sending me a PM.
The PM to me needs to be in the following format:
Your name (i.e., the name you want to go by in the tourney)
Your contact information (such as reddit info and/or NGA username, YouTube and/or Twitch.tv account information, XBox Gamertag
Email [only if you want it published!])
Decklist Name (example: Gruul Aggro, Mosters Inc., etc…)
The deck you are using (example below)...
4x Swamp
2x Aethersphere Harvester
1x Archangel Avacyn
etc...
**It is your responsibility as a participant to ensure the posted decklist matches the decklist you intend to play before the tournament commences, so check the player decklist link and ensure what is posted is correct.**
4.
Illegal Cards - The first penalty for playing an illegal card (otherwise known as a card NOT on your submitted decklist) is a game loss. The second penalty is a match loss. The third penalty is tournament expulsion. I suggest creating a special copy of your tournament deck and giving it a unique name so that you never modify it by mistake.
There is no statute of limitations on this, though it will not change results retroactively.
5.
Intentional Drawing - In paper Magic tournaments, it is common for players to intentionally draw matches in order to secure a place in the Top 8. Since the purpose of this tournament is content creation, intentional drawing will not be allowed. You have to play your matches.
6.
Disconnects - If there is a disconnect, we will assume that it was unintentional and replay the match UNLESS it is clearly obvious that one of the players had an insurmountable advantage and would have likely won. This needs to be agreed upon by BOTH players, and I need to know this via PM that you both were in agreement. If both players do not agree, replay the match anyway and then PM me with your video link (to include timestamps where this DC occurred) and I will make the call. If it is not clear there will be a winner within several turns by my estimation, the game will be voided and the results of the following games will count. If I decide there would have been a clear winner within several turns, I will award that player the win for that game and the results will stack in order from that game, if necessary.
Remember this is a friendly tournament that aims to promote a fun and competitive tournament environment and to showcase our players within the community. Don't be a dick...that’s my job. But also, don’t be afraid to call an issue to my attention; just be respectful.
7.
Bugged Cards - A lot of these have been corrected, but some were not. Instead of going over individual cards, here's the basic rule: You, the player, will have (hopefully) been practicing with your deck for some time and know any buggy interactions that occur with the cards you have selected for your deck.
Regardless of what you can do, don't do anything that is contrary to the rules of the cards/game as written. If the game forces you to do something that is contrary to the rules, make it right (ie, if you get away with casting/doing something for free and there should have been a cost, add the appropriate mana to your mana pool and let it drain at the end of the current phase).
If there are any questions or something happens mid-game, finish the game and send me video of the event...I’ll make the rules call. If a card causes a disconnection, before the next match starts all players will have the option to replace the card(s) in question if it is in their original decklist for the rest of the tournament. If players do not change the card out, any further bugged interaction caused by that card will cause them to receive a game loss.
8.
Recording/Streaming - Participants are to either stream their games via Twitch and archive and/or record their games. This is two-fold; first to create Magic Duels content. Second, to have a record of your actions in case arbitration is required. If there is a discrepancy with your games I will need to have evidence (ie, the recording) to judge it fairly.
Only the winner of the round is required to post the link to their twitch archive and/or post their recording to youtube; the loser of that round is not required to post their video links, though it is encouraged.
The winner shall post game results, along with their video links in this thread. Failure for the winner to post their video will incurs a Warning the first time and a game loss in the match for each subsequent non-post.
Make sure your recording is working BEFORE you play your matches. If for some reason you are having problems, you'll need to contact me.
9.
Arbitration - I am the judge for this tournament. All rules, arbitration, prize distribution, demerits, etc...will be conducted by me for the entirety of the tournament and all decisions are final.
If there is need for arbitration, unless I am currently watching the game (if you are streaming, in which case I'll issue a ruling on the spot), FINISH THE GAME AND MATCHES if possible! I will make a decision when I look at the replay. This is just in case there was no violation of the rules.
Players requesting arbitration (and their opponents) will PM me with the link to the match in question with the appropriate time stamp so I can quickly make a determination and issue a ruling.
If any play, interaction, bug, etc...gets under your skin, puts you on tilt, gets you salty, whatever...stop and give yourself 5 minutes between a game to chill and get your head on straight. This is a friendly competition, so treat everyone with respect (including yourself).
10.
Cheating - Don't cheat. Pretty much that simple. This includes stream sniping, taking advice from your audience while on twitch (also known as coaching), someone else watching your opponents gameplay and feeding you information, etc...penalty for cheating, whether it is defined in the rules as written or defined at a later date, is immediate DQ and ban from the next tournament.
If you think it could be cheating, you probably shouldn't be doing it. If you have questions about it, PM me soonest.
11.
Wheaton's Law - Don't be a dick. Seriously. That's my job if it's absolutely necessary. Your job is to have fun and showcase yourself. If you have a problem with the gameplay, getting together with your opponent, the way something went down in the game...whatever the problem, the correct answer is to let me know and I will deal with it.
One last thing...Have fun, Planeswalkers!
