Haven't given it much thought yet.

I assume that first player doesn't get a draw on first turn (but second player does), but I'll await CJ's official decree.

Tutelage isn't a kill if the cards in the deck are colorless! Actually, that begs the question - blank opponent also has blank deck? Even a first turn tutelage wouldn't be a T1 kill against Mr. Blanks, but would T1 kill a great deal of actual decks.

Only when you don't play first.

Quote:

You're assuming two things: That drawing from an empty deck results in a loss in this format (no mention of it in the description), and that everybody chooses a colored card as their countably finite card (so your description of "infinite" is illegal here, but let's just assume you meant Avagadro's number). Your decklist here is a perfect example of somebody choosing a colorless card as their countably finite choice. In a mirror match, literally whoever plays their Tutelage first and/or has the larger library wins (again, assuming drawing from an empty library results in a loss).

Good point on decking. I think the intent is that you can lose by decking (as is usually the case with you-actually-get-a-deck formats), but it is unstated.

Good to know. I'll add that to the rules.

To answer an earlier question, your starting hand is 3 cards, and draw steps work like they normally do in a two player game of Magic.

Sphinx's Tutelage sounds powerful in an annoying way (harshly punishing anyone who picked a colored card), so I'll ban that, too. (And Grindstone.)

Edit: Also, old discard rule was a typo. Fixing now.

I realized it wouldn't kill colorless decks, but I am making the assumption that there are going to be very few colorless or land decks.

While I'm listing cards I remember from magic duels that I am worried about, I am trying to think of there's something stupid you can do with Treasure Hunt. It's definitely a turn 4 kill, but can anyone make that faster?

Why would we share that information if we could make it faster?

Good. I'm glad to see you learned your lesson from sharing your Round 2 deck (which I highly doubt was really why it did so bad, because you honestly used very bad logic in your meta evaluation).

Also, I wouldn't count it as a turn 2 kill if it's situational (like your Sphinx's Tutelage idea).

I just realized Battle of Wits isn't on the extra bans list. Wasn't there talk of banning that when Collector was first put in the poll?

Edit: Ha! Of course I'd remember that, I was the one who said something about it. :V

You didn't ban Thrumming Stone? Or Battle of Wits?

Which was in response to this post:

Collector is cute, but the banning whack-a-mole game would be nasty. There are lots of avenues that would have to be considered for banning.

yeah, i am pretty sure i missed something, here's what i proposed for reference

Spoiler

first two are self-explanatory, extirpate/surgical extraction/grindstone are the next tier of problematic, and i just now realized that cranial extraction/memoricide should possibly be there as well (even with lotus banned)

Was not my deck at the time.

... The main reason I don't share my decks every round is that it pisses Jim off. I can only get away with it every 5 rounds or so.

I'm starting to think that just allowing turn 2 kills is fine here. <- Also thinking I'm just not going to play this round. I'm already out of a prize most likely and this one looks like very little fun.

Not just him, but since he's hosting these things I suppose his temperament is the only one that matters. :V

Yes and no.

Yours doesn't at the moment, but there are a few people here I don't feel like annoying right now either.

Mine doesn't ever, but I see now where how I worded my post could make you think I thought mine did. What I was trying to say was that Jim's temperament is the only one that should matter since he's hosting these 3CM seasons.

I don't think that wording's any clearer than the one I used at first...I'm not very good at articulating my thoughts, it's really a fluke at all that I can communicate with other humans. :V

Yeah, those also mess with the point of the format in a really aggressive way. I don't want to figure out on a card-by-card basis which of those are broken, so I'll just ban anything that lets you search an opponent's library. I'll add Battle of Wits, too.

EXTRA BANS, final decision (I hope): anything that has or gives ripple, anything that lets you search an opponent's library, Battle of Wits, Beck // Call, Glimpse of Nature, Grindstone, Manamorphose, Sphinx's Tutelage

That's reason enough to put in little effort and mail in a long shot ... But this game is on life support for participation enough as it is to have one of the few people actively participating in the thread not submitting for a round.

Even for rounds I hate and am already out of the running I still submit, in part because the game needs submissions to work.

PS one of the t2 kill glass cannons last round was Glistener Elf with either Groundswell & Berserk, or with Blazing Shoal & Progenitus. Would have lost hard, even to Gut Shot. Did anyone else have a T2 kill in mind that wasn't run because of fragility?

Shouldn't 5v7 be 3-3 for Round 2?

Way I see it

My alt round for round 1 prize:

*Jim Can Come Up With The Name* - Players have 2 copies of each of their 3 cards.

So take my deck from last round. It would now be:

Gut Shot
Gut Shot
Mental Misstep
Mental Misstep
Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
Emrakul, the Aeons Torn

Obviously extra bans would be necessary, and the wording could be a bit better.

Found a first turn kill this round. Can't slow it down though.
