Five legal decks? How many illegal decks, if I may ask?

34. Turns out we have an extremely active group of players who don't understand the rules.

No, I'm kidding, I got 2 illegal decks. One has since been replaced with a legal submission, and the other was itself a resubmission, so I can just use that player's first submission instead.

Does the new anti-disruption rule hold for this land-Vanilla too?

Burgeoning does not work as I'd like it to, or should it be banned?

New Round: Vanilla Lands
You can play any basic land card from outside the game any time you could normally play a land. (Vanilla banned list, plus some extra bans.)
Extra bans: Beacon of Creation, Fastbond, Red Sun's Zenith, White Sun's Zenith
Begins Saturday, December 17th
Ends Wednesday, December 21st
Season 22 Vanilla Banned List

There were some other powerful cards that I considered banning, but there are so many possibilities this round that I'm just going to leave those cards alone see what happens.

good news: you don't have to add black lotus because it's already banned

(but really it should be if it is unbanned for some reason)

i'll ban pyrokinesis for my consolation prize, assuming the spreadsheet is correct

That feeling when Jack plays the super cereal deck and everyone else tries to be creative: :bang:

Why did I not get the memo?

----

I assumed (I guess I was right) that everyone was going to try to go for multiple threats rather than storage lands.

Good choice.

Black Lotus is banned but certain fast mana cards are not. Anything that costs 5 cmc can be an all in play on turn 1 and anything that is 6cmc or less can be an all in play on turn 2. Banefire can even possibly kill people on turn 5.

There are also a lot of decks one could not play in vanilla but that now work again.

There are plenty of decks in the format that can go infinite before turn 5, if undisrupted.

And decks that just win on T2.

A deck that, undisrupted, wins on T5... isn't a threat here.

Win on T2? Interesting.

They tend to be glass cannons though.

Rule clarify: is Mind Bomb legal? It only causes your opponent to discard if they choose to.

Mind Bomb is legal. If the opponent has an option that results in the number of cards in their hand staying the same, it's fine.

Eh. I'm not worried about T2 wins. After the last round I feel like people are going to end up playing disruption. Especially with the extra card (we are basically playing 4cm with a basic land).

But most t1 hand disruption is banned. The only ones that can be played are ones that can't make Mr Blanks lose a card - stuff like Despise and Appetite for Brains and Shattered Dreams. And tax or bounce decks will be nigh powerless as well, as the best they can do is is delay the inevitable.

that seems to contradict with this statement

The discard rule has been changed to instead ban any deck that can reduce an opponent's hand size at all before they take a full turn. So turn-1 Duress is out, but turn-2 Mind Rot is in. Remember, you can't just have turn-1 discard and not use it until turn 2. If your deck is at all capable of forcing discard on turn 1, it's illegal.

The rule as worded in the vanilla ban list is

Any deck that can reduce the number of cards in a blank opponent's hand before that opponent can take a full turn.

The blank opponent has 3 blank cards. No type, no cost, no color. That would mean that Duress is banned because it could hit them (they are non creature non land) but Despise isn't because it can't (they are not creatures and they are not planeswalkers).
