PEOPLE ARE SO SLOW. WHAT are you thinking about with ZERO cards in hand? Why are you holding up 60 seconds over simple math? YES my 3/3 will kill your 2/3! WHY does it take you forever to figure this out!? WHY ARE WE WAITING when you are tapped out!? AGHGHGHGHHHHHHH

My only grip revolves around your spelling of gripe. ;)

So, a couple of things.

One, "Gripe", not "grip". You can change the topic of the first post if you want to fix that.

Two, I concur, people who stall the game when they are about to lose are annoying. But...... that's just a part of the user base. Same as the people who rage quit in the middle of the match.

Edit2: While we are complaigning, people who don't bother to read my cards. Ever. And then scream cheater and rage quit. And then mssg me 5 times. And then threaten to report me in the 6th mssg. While I haven't said a single thing to them.

Edit:
Ninja'd again. No wait, this is the first time Devil's done that.

I'm going to leave it as grip out of spite now. I mean, out of spit.

It really does drive me insane, though. They do it two different ways. 1) The inevitable loss, and they stall out of obnoxiousness. 2) They go slow. ALWAYS. Always slow. Every turn is an agonizing wait. Purgatory.

Maybe it's just tonight, but between Bounce and Boon, and people just taking for-ev-er....I hate it when the games take so long, when they don't need to. Waste of time.

It could be worse, every game you join the person could immediately rage quit.
Or the people in the games could be jerks every time.
Or every game you join could be Dodge and Burn or Avacyn's Glory or Deadwalkers or the 2 new decks Nevermind.

I like long games, but not wasted time within them. If that makes sense. :)

I get it.

I would rather lose an hour long game that was interesting and extremely close than steamroll 3 times in 1 hour you know? Unless I'm playing ffa with Devil, in which case every game is an hour and a half and I lack the stamina.

If anything I 'd say most players are too quick at making their moves :takei: attacking without doing the math, blocking randomly , countering a spell without reading what it does.

Unfortunately that speed can be contagious , I attribute my silliest mistakes in this game to being caught in that mood of pushing the buttons before thinking .

I've been thinking we could use a rants thread. Just go in there and blow off steam when ticked off. It would have to allow for offensive language I think.

No. No offense, but there are things you should never say about other people even in an allowed space, and I fully trust forum members, given the last week or two, to completely abuse such a space. And I wouldn't trust myself to rant without mentioning the object of my wrath, so I have a hard time believing that absolutely no one would do so.

I'd advise against offensive language, but cries of undirected incoherent rage are A-OK in my books.

I am also in favor of this! Responsible venting. :D

In all honesty though, when people take that long.....do you think its because they're really contemplating it? or is it just because they're playing on their iphone or something. it's really a big annoyance lately...60 second turns on T2? ughhh

I'm guilty of a lot of this. It's mostly innocent though.

During my first turn, if I have something like Disentegrate or Green Sun's Zenith I often forget that the game thinks I might want to play those for X=0. So I might start the game, lay a land, and then run to the kitchen real quick to refill my drink. All the while my opponent is waiting on me to pass the turn. I also do this often with things like Qasali Pridemage when I have 1 mana untapped. Sorry about that my fellow players. Plz forgive me.

On the other hand. I often take a while during my first main phase because I'm thinking of every possible move I could make throughout the entire turn to determine whether I want to cast something 1st or 2nd main phase, or at all. And yes you're 3/3 may kill my 2/3 but that doesn't mean I'm not holding a doom blade and wondering if I should kill it now and hit you for 2 or if I should wait till your turn to see if you are going to try and pump him with enchantment or equipment or if you are going to do something else. Sometimes I need to be aggressive and get the 2 in now, sometimes I can wait. This all is decided upon by what I think you have in hand, could draw into and what I have. There's a lot of variables that you don't see because you don't know what's in my hand. Even if I have 0 cards in hand, I need to think about what you have, and what could be drawn. Do I even have an out in my deck? That's one of the main questions that needs asked.

Sorry if this offends you.

But yes, if your opponent is tapped out, there's no need to be wasting time.

I see a number of possible issues, the biggest of which is doing other things at the same time as they're playing, especially on Steam--they might have some other application open at the same time and be multitasking. In MTGO I'd blame double-queueing, but not sure if that's possible on DotP.

Another possibility is that they're genuinely new players and need to keep reading all their cards to see what they do--new players tend to have the memory of a goldfish when it comes to what cards do.

A third possibility is that they're not using their time well. A good player can and will plan out their own moves as their opponent is making theirs--by the time their turn arrives, they already know approximately what their options are, or even exactly what they want to do, and unless their draw step changes things significantly they can then execute that plan immediately. Some players just can't or won't do that and start their planning fresh on their own turn.

And lastly, they could simply one of those people who needs to take some time to figure out exactly what's going on before moving on. I encountered one of these people in paper not too long ago--I was watching his match and had to step away and bite my finger to keep from commenting when he did things like repeatedly confirm which of his opponent's lands were being tapped to play spells, what spells had been cast already in the turn, and so on and so forth, turn after turn. It was downright painful to watch--I can barely imagine what it was like to play.

Knowledge knows no bounds.

And so people say to me, "How do I know if a word is real?" You know, anyone who's read a children's book knows that love makes things real. If you love a word, use it! That makes it real. Being in the dictionary is an artificial distinction; it doesn't make the word any more real than any other word. If you love a word, it becomes real.

This is all well and good, but if my opponent is playing slow and very well then it's a sign of thought. It's very easy to distinguish those players from the rest of the inattentive rabble.

^^^^ Devil, I thought your main peeve is when I suicide with a field wipe? It seems to be Tripp's too.

:ontopic:

If we are going for main annoying thing about partners........... hmmmm that is a tough one.

I would have to go with my partner gets their first hand. The average cmc of the hand is 6 and they only have 2 lands. They never take a mulligan. 2 turns later they rage quit when they magically can't do anything and we are losing. This is the most annoying thing that happens to me regularly in 2HG, and I am sure a few games of this would make someone screaming into their mic seem like soothing music to my ears by comparison.

I also don't like rage quitting in general when the game isn't decided. But the above form is the most annoying.

There is also the dude who tells you exactly what cards to play through the mic. Because my hand is supposed to be public knowledge and the people running izzet/MM combo need to know it.

And there is the dude who mulligans to 1 card and then quits.

And the dude who plays auras on my illusions 5 times in one game, because it worked the first 4 times and he can't be bothered to read.

Basically anyone who not only doesn't know what they are doing, but is incompetent or rage quitty to the point where it's almost 3 vs 1.
