Maybe I'm mis-remembering backbuild...wait...that was the one were you were trying to give your opponent the winning deck wasn't it? Yeah, I guess that's building to lose.

I also think the depth of decks here will be very shallow, but maybe we'll be surprised.

I won't have internet tonight, so here's the next round.

New Round: Auras!
For each permanent card in your deck, you may choose an Aura with the same mana cost as that card. ( and are different mana costs.) That card always enters the battlefield with a token copy of that Aura attached to it, unless the Aura can't legally enchant that permanent.
Begins Thursday, November 24th
Ends Wednesday, November 30th
Alternate Format Banned List

Sorry guys, I settled on my deck on Sunday, and then forgot to submit :( This is what I would have played:

Spoiler

Actually liked this round, well, before I forgot about it :)

How exactly does an Elf that can't block my 5/5 beat me? 2+2+4+7 does not equal 20 damage. Nor does 2+2+2+4+7. And I'm certainly not casting my Ancient until there's a creature to pump.

If you play the Elf on T1

Clearly Me vs Spy is 2-2.

Unsure why POSV wrote up 2 against me, I don't see myself getting a single point. Ice Floe traps my cavalry while Pili flies over it and my Quicksand.

Shame, I considered running Desert instead of Quicksand. And with 2 1/1 flyers out there, it would have served me very well. Thought I was more likely to face Thalakos Sentry.

What "good" deck would have Thalakos Sentry losing 0-6 to turn 2 Storm Crow? It seems like you would go 3-3 there.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot Quicksand couldn't hit fliers, which makes sense since it would then beat Storm Crow.

I expected a deck like mine - 2 lands, one of which causes pain for blue mana. Because of that pain it loses the race to Crow but is otherwise similar.

One way to play this round (which door and I did in 2 different ways; posv as well) is to camouflage - make your deck as similar to the dummy deck as possible, so that whatever measures decks use to be unable to defeat the crow make them unable to beat your deck either. Any 2 mana 1/2 blue creature with evasion theoretically ticks a lot of boxes. In this meta it fell apart because so many decks specifically excused flying (quicksand, ice floe, canopy cover, even zlen's missed island sanctuary) while being able to deal with nonflying evasion and one deck that punished nonbasic land use. But a lot of competitive decks, like CJs, would be unable to deal with a 1/2 evasive blue creature that lands on t2 because that's specifically something their deck is designed to lose to.

Yeah, my first idea was "removal that can't stop fliers" since I thought the most obvious route to beating Crow was something which couldn't block it. Then I just went with something that won just as fast as crow, since if you couldn't remove it, then you should theoretically lose to it.

I had in mind "Removal that can deal 1 point of damage" would be big (couldn't deal with Storm Crow, but could deal with a lot of things small-enough-to-get-in-pretending-to-be-Storm-Crow-and-not-able-to-beat-Storm-Crow), so thought it vital that I run a 1/2 creature. (Then I thought others would make this same deducation so I went to Quicksand for it's 2 toughness hit). As it turns out CJ's winning deck does deal 1 damage at a time, and as a result I beat him with a 2-toughness creature (and nobody else beats him). I was more thinking about Desert and Gut Shot tho.

In retrospect, I should have given a good look at Invisible Stalker as my evasive crow-a-like. Would be immune to all those pesky targeting abilities like Ice Floe and Quicksand/Desert and Keldon Megaliths and Gut Shot. Yeh, Invisible Stalker + Desert + Adarkar Wastes would have fared notably better.

Heh. I see Jim went ahead and purged the spreadsheet from the last time this ran.

Also from the last time this ran:
This round probably could've used a banned-list or slightly different rules, haha. I'm actually kind of excited though, to see the results of a completely broken format, just this once.

The round turned out to be broken in a way that actually had a lot of variety in decks. Also, what do you mean I purged the original spreadsheet? I can still access it.

Yeah, I expect a ton of broken-ness, but in a fun way this round.

When I visited it, only the default tab (rules and ban list) was there. The decks and results tabs were not there or visible.

I didn't realize there'd already been an Auras! round before. :incognito: -goes to search through older seasons-

Found it! I can see the decklists just fine too. :wha: But having a previous round to look at, I've decided my deck isn't good enough so I'm gonna change it. :shifty:
