• Closer to Magic than Hearthstone mechanically: You can respond to some actions, choose how you block, mana is produced by cards in your deck, etc
• Cards are persistent, and changes to them are retained as they hit the graveyard or library, and brought back.

I think you should, it's pretty fun. It's not perfect, but I like it as a digital card game that is pretty quick, but has a bit more meat to it than Hearthstone, and more interesting deckbuilding opportunities.

I play it a bit! It's cool. I like it. It's fun to play something that is so similar to Magic but designed in a much more digital-friendly way. I really like the "Magic can't do this" mechanics like echo and warcry.

And apparently they just started open beta on Steam, so everybody come try it out!

Yeah, I was basically just posting because it had downtime, and came back to realize it was in open beta.
It's a bit hard to wrap my head around all the card changes, they're rather overwhelming. At a superficial level, I'm sad Secret Pages got changed, although it now fills the slot of "why is there no rampant growth variant". Champion of Cunning also became extremely inelegant.

A friend of mine introduced me to a F2P card game called Shadowverse. I got bored with it after only 20 days.

I've had Eternal for 3 days and it's already way more fun than Shadowverse was. Mostly because I can mix and match the factions (whereas in Shadowverse you're stuck with only one faction per deck from a selection of seven).

I play a bit of it when I'm bored with Hearthstone. I dislike just how absolutely stuffed this game is with mechanics, many of which just don't seem, if I can put it this way, "base set worthy", but it is fun to play in part because it is basically Magic.

Yeah, I tried to explain to my brother that it felt incredibly 'gamey', and he didn't really get what I was trying to say.
I do not exactly mind it as a player, but there's something about echo and warcry being core mechanics that makes me uncomfortable or so.

There's also a slew of things that seem incredibly arbitrary. Ambush does not have the same timing as fast spells, weapon abilities apply to your spells for some reason, you can respond to spells and abilities, but not other cards, you can't play cards with 0 or less hp. I'm sure there's more I also have yet to discover.

I'm pretty sure the prevention of playing units with 0 or less health is to prevent abusing Entomb.

I'm currently playing it for the first time and I like it.

Something really worth mentioning: my internet connection often misbehaves and when I saw myself taken to the login page after a disconnection I was disappointed, but then, after relogging... "Reconnecting to the game in progress"! Most people probably take it for granted nowadays, but I don't, and I'm happy to see reconnection working flawlessly, at least against the AI.

First(?) available promotional card event thing going on in Eternal until January 9th.

Wump, Party Starter 3PP
When you play a Yeti (including Wump), that unit deals 1 damage to the enemy player.
Other Yeti units you control get +1/+1.
2 Unit-Yeti 2

(Paraphrased the text, I don't remember exactly how they worded it.)

You get one Wump per day (up to four copies) by defeating someone in Ranked. Fun card, you should get it and build your own version of a Yeti tribal deck. If you suck at winning in Ranked, apparently after the 9th you'll be able to create Wump using Shiftstones.

Most importantly, the 1 damage triggers infiltrate, so Scouting Party with Wump in play will give you four 2/2's, deal 4 damage to your opponent, and immediately draw you four cards.

Mots of the games you win will be against durdly decks, where you just get a Azindel's Gift to wreck them.
Burn is kind of a decent matchup. You have a fair amount of lifegain, they don't put as much stuff on the board, and your answers are quite solid. Gift stops them from sandbagging burn until it deals too much, and Mistveil Drake is also nice if you get it after they use their favors.

I've been trying out drafting.

1st Draft: 10 rares
2nd Draft: 8 rares 1 legendary
3rd Draft: 13 rares 1 legendary 1 animated legendary (not even on the first pack; literally the 11 card pack after the 12 card pack with the legendary; someone f'd up)

I think I like the underlying mechanics of the game. It's much better than that ESL thing they did.

But the 75 card deck size just feels like way too much.

I am running a 26 1 drop creature deck. .... I don't really know how to describe that feeling, but I would say it feels a lot like running a 26 one drop deck and praying to rnjesus that you get the right cards in the right order. Anything else I try does WAYYYYYY worse so I don't know what to do. Right now I'm 760 gold away from FINALLY doing another draft since I finished the last one (I've made like 3K gold today off of ladder with NO CHEST UPGRADES), and I am starting to feel like I am aggro scum. ... Feels nice. I like to punish. But now I'm silver :(. <- That's not as nice.

Some interesting interactions with Lurking Suangar:
- Forge Wolf counts
- Shadowlands Guide can revive one if you've fulfilled the condition that turn.
