Well, speak of the devil I'm backing Fate of the Elder Gods, which is looking like an increasingly good deal as the stretch goals unlock more prizes for all us game level backers. In fact, it looks like we'll basically be getting the game plus a major expansion for less than the final msrp of the game, which is the kind of awesomeness I love finding on kickstarter. Plus, while I'm not a con-goer able to demo these things myselves, I've seen the gameplay videos and they look pretty great.

Betrayal + Small World seems like a really fascinating combo, especially since they're so different, one being a co-op psuedo rpg-ish board builder and the other being a kind of frenetic competitive area control/wargame

Thanks! It leans more towards Small World in terms of gameplay, but Betrayal in terms of item acquisition and setting.

For those interested in Magic: The Gathering and maybe the resurgence of Voltron and Power Rangers, my buddies over at Zephyr Workshop are on Kickstarter for A.E.G.I.S., a Combining Robot Strategy Game. It's being published by Greenbrier Games, makers of Yashima and Heavy Steam (among other great tactical games). A.E.G.I.S. has got a ton of depth with simple to learn rules in a very affordable box (or you can pick up both starter boxes for only $80), and there's tons of room for expansion. M:tG was a very big influence on it, and as I know this is largely a M:tG forum, maybe folks will appreciate the thought that went into designing these robots. PLUS THEY CAN ALL COMBINE LIKE VOLTRON MID-BATTLE! I like it, and am currently backing at the $80 level, (though thinking about upping to $100 for the artbook).

Check it out here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gbg/aegis-combining-robot-strategy-game

I knew there was a Power Rangers movie coming out (partly shot in my town), but I had no idea Voltron was making a comeback.

*"To YMTC it up" means to design cards that have value mostly from a design perspective. i.e. you would put them in a case under glass in your living room and visitors could remark upon the wonderful design principles, with nobody ever worring if the cards are annoying/pointless/confusing in actual play

Oh yeah, the new Voltron: Legendary Defender show on Netflix is actually pretty great. I enjoyed the first two seasons a LOT.

In other news, I made another game. Unsure if I'll Kickstart it or find a publisher, but I did a limited-edition print run of it at PAX East a couple weeks ago which went really well. I brought 50 copies with me to sell at the Gaming Paper booth, and was down to 1 by the end. So that's exciting.

The game is called Pigment, and is a minimalist worker placement game similar to Lords of Waterdeep meets Splendor, playable in a fraction of the time. You are master painters of the Renaissance... Or you would be, if you had paints! In the game, you'll be sending your two apprentices to the ever-evolving Bazaar to gather Pigment cubes, which you then use to paint your masterpieces. Each painting has a unique "premier piece" effect when it's the top card in your gallery, and first to fill their gallery wins. 2-3 players, 15-20 minutes, ages 8+.

I'm also still working on relaunching Tattoo! The Game of Ink on Kickstarter this year, but who knows when that'll happen. Let me know if you've got any tattoo artist friends who are looking to contribute art in exchange for payment and credit! We still need like a dozen more tattoos!
