So it's been a while since I've done any work on planeswalker characters, and I'm not so sure this thread belongs here, but it's not intended for M:EM either, so if it's moved to an appropriate area, that would be appreciated; but I've finally managed something for 5 mono-colored walkers, and would like feedback and critique if possible for what I have so far. For the time being, they haven't any proper names, if it wasn't hard enough, some specifics that usually play a role in naming haven't been ironed out, so for now, I label them as what they are, and most take a bit of inspiration from Pathfinder and/or D&D.

The Cleric: A female white-aligned planeswalker who puts her faith in whatever god-like beings or organized religion there can be found on a given plane. She believes in most popular beliefs to the point of gullibility. Her moral alignment sways sometimes, but she tries to be good if not lawful, and lawful if not good, most often, and emulates a patron "deity's" style of combat & magic so long as she is able to use to cast such magic, and seeks to come to a full realization of the power and values these divine figures offer, and hopefully share these values across the multiverse. Yet to be decided whether she is a Human Cleric of Emeria/Linvala/Iona, Human Cleric of Yosei/Myojin of Cleansing Fire, Kitsune Cleric of Patron of the Kitsune, Human Cleric of Avacyn/Bruna/Gisela/Sigarda/4th Sister, or Human Cleric of Orzhov before her spark ignited.

The Wizard: Perhaps a Vedalken planeswalker, I know I'm jumping on the Kaladeshi aether-wagon here, but thinking Oldwalker from Kaladesh whose ascension brought him to Mirrodin, and had to pass as a vedalken there... Either way, contrived as it may be, the plan is that he is the wizard in question of the "Wizard's Tower", part tower, part library, part arena, part vehicle, but his "superpower" (that one very stylized ability most modern walkers all rely on despite having huge potential for magic spells) is being able to bond with other things, which he has so far used freely to bond with his constructed tower and planeswalk all the same. My goal I have in mind for his character is one-half The Doctor and one-half Zordon.

The Lich: A black-aligned planeswalker whose goal is to become a powerful lich across the multiverse. Chock it up to limited storytelling, but Nicol Bolas did recommend to Liliana learning to obtain lichdom on Innistrad, and Liliana only refused the advice due to wanting to stay young and beautiful, and some poetic retort about a proper ruler not sharing the social class of her people. I highly doubt Nicol Bolas of all people dragons would have forgotten the part about "Oh yeah, and you're doomed to live out your days as a planebound necromancer, because lichdom ruins your spark. Have fun Liliana." But regardless of what the negative consequences of lichdom for a planeswalker may be, he aspires to have a small horde of phylacteries created and hidden on a number of planes, such as a special coin/scale deposited into Vizkopa, or a particular item secretly added to Silumgar's treasure horde, or a golden mask in Theros' underworld.

The Warrior: A red-aligned planeswalker who joins any struggle for liberty, and who seeks out unique weapons, and aims to use his red magic in conjunction. Such as playing the part of a ronin on Kamigawa and discovering the unique "Manamune" there.

The Monk: A green-aligned (Human? Orochi?) planeswalker who seeks enlightenment and oneness with the multiverse by training his mind and body, and following the patterns of nature throughout the multiverse, adhering to monastic traditions on whatever plane he finds, and incorporating nature into his fighting style (monkey-style, snake-style, crane-style, etc)

Main conundrum to consider is how the Cleric is affected by some of the current happenings and her faith,thus affecting her progress from where she starts and where she goes and when. Does she go "Avacyn's gone mad? Best start believing in Brun-- I mean Gisel-- I mean Sigarda. / Avacyn's targetting humans? They must have been wicked and thus deserved it. I'll be more vigilant against my fellow man. / Avacyn's gone nuts? *throws away Avacynian holy symbol* / *leaves before SOI, returns after EMN* Some vamp offed our savior Avacyn and there was a human uprising against Bruna & Gisela? Sigarda it is"

An interesting story concept that's come to mind is if in an AU (AM in this case) this Cleric were to utilise Avacynian magic, or magic dedicated to Emeria/Ula/Cosi on Theros, and it stuck, would there be a Legendary Enchantment Creature - Angel/Merfolk form of Avacyn/Emeria/Ula come into being the way the Theran population had come to understand those divine beings? If Emeria was an angel, and Ula was a merfolk, what was Cosi? Or did only humans believe Emeria was just an angel? Sources imply merfolk envisioned Emeria as an angelic winged merfolk, so what about Cosi? I know the Kor mucked things up and associated Talib with Nahiri, so I assume in this case Kamsa is an angelic winged Kor, and Ula is an aquatic Kor? Talib was, well, a Earth-elemental Kor like Nahiri?

Also, if a "planeswalking TARDIS" is a bit much, then I reserve the option to reflavor this as The Wizard instead is able to realize his knowledge, memories, etc in a limited not-quite-an-illusion form within the Tower (which if he's unable to planeswalk alongside, he's able to conjure it onto a plane he is present on. Thus, he does not violate common planeswalker qualities, but is still able to evoke the flavor suggested by the game mode; planebound and planeswalkers alike being able to stumble upon the Wizard's Tower on their homeplane/current planar location and puruse the tomes, and even experience an almost-real simulacrum of other planes, and take part in magical training/duels within the Tower)

Dr Who influences on your blue planeswalker...what if Blue's a character whose longevity has driven him to use his quest for knowledge as a buffer against the realities of his immortality? Rather than invest in people and their problems, he gives the illusion of helping with the intent of learning new things.

Dr Who influences on your blue planeswalker...what if Blue's a character whose longevity has driven him to use his quest for knowledge as a buffer against the realities of his immortality? Rather than invest in people and their problems, he gives the illusion of helping with the intent of learning new things.
Though I'm not sure about the lifespan of a Vedalken, the Oldwalker status was to cement a large reservoir of knowledge for use in his pseudo-shared-planeswalking and collection of spellbooks and wide variety of artifacts. Not to mention, I'd have to guess the Tower would be some sort of life-support for him, considering Liliana was an old crone after the mending, Nahiri only got a pass due to the suspensive properties of the Helvault.

As much as I'm digging Kaladesh, a Kaladeshi Vedalken Wizard with an actual high-fantasy magic tower doesn't Kalamesh. Going off the Zordon-influence (mostly meant it as "companions/visitors of his tower play a Power Rangers role", but considering the Tower presumably shouldn't be able to planeshift with non-walkers and it's only a perceived reality of leaving the Tower to another world, more on the actual Zordon part-- perhaps he is in some multiplanar-Aether suspension to keep him alive, hmm, but is somehow able to conjure it onto other planes?)

Perhaps he is a Vedalken from before Alara's Sundering.

I would definitely have to see more details about each planeswalker but at the moment they seem a little generic. I think that there is definitely evidence/the starts of really good characters, and I would love complicated characters based on simple concepts.

I'm playing around with a farmer turned cleric that believes in the power and necessity of...belief. Rather than belief in a specific figure like Avacyn or the other angel flights, this cleric encourages his congregation to find an ideal in which to believe, and after having found that ideal, seek an avatar for the ideal.

Red warrior should probably be more mercurial when it comes to alliances. Today's freedom fighters are tomorrow's tyrants and all. One day he's helping one group liberate something, next he's helping the a group being oppressed by the "liberators" he previously assisted. I could see a warrior like this finding pleasure in the simpler things, like art, that endure while revolutions and revolutionaries rise and fall.

Rather than belief in a specific figure like Avacyn or the other angel flights, this cleric encourages his congregation to find an ideal in which to believe, and after having found that ideal, seek an avatar for the ideal.

Oh, I like that character concept. Planebound, or Planeswalker?

Mind if I pluck that characterization for the Red walker? Maybe not art like paintings, but I can see him having a penchant for specially crafted masterwork-like weaponry in both a collector sort of way AND a warrior kind of way. But the switching sides as the ideals change sounds like an interesting dynamic possibly. It'd be neat if we ever visited Valla.

Take 'em both if you like. On rewrites, my cleric shifted more toward running a refuge for survivors complete with gallows for the cabal members that brought war to his homeland.

You could make the warrior a writer that deals with the realities of his career by forging weapons and using a new weapon for each campaign...with the intent of writing up a legend for each weapon based on the campaigns.

White: Kithkin Cleric, or Archer.

Blue: I would like to say Merfolk, but then they would be from Zendikar, because all the other merfolk don't have feet. Honestly, this one is the most boring IMO, and we already have Jace who is mono-blue.

Black: A demon, Human, or maybe an undead (can an undead be a Planeswalker? I feel this was addressed once). Really, Ob-Nix is one of the best designed walkers IMO, and he is pretty solidly mono-black.

Red: A Viashino, Dragon, Dwarf. Depending on the race, either a fighter, tinkerer, or generic rebel.

Green: Again Viashino could be here, or any non-human race LIKE A PLANESWALKER WURM HOW AWESOME WOULD THAT BE. Also, Nantuko need to make a return, and a Nantuko walker would be an awesome way to do that, even if he were unique.

Harambe didn't die for Maro to neglect the Nantuko.

Blue...let's make it an amphin. And since the flavor text on the amphin references things that feel very primeval, prehistoric, or downright ancient...and since these three things are linked to the concept of time's passage...an amphin planeswalker should have abilities like Great Whale or Palinchron.
