So.... yeah. Contests and stuffs. So, least time I ranked people for grading because, well, I was tired and feeling lazy. This time I'll just do some brief comments, and give you scores I feel are appropriate. Everything will be graded on a scale of zero to ten, zero being the worst and whatever I grade Tevish Szat's to be the best. I mean, ten to be the best. (actually, I have no idea what people did so far, I really don't tend to read the entries until I get grading.) So yeah, here goes:
miss_bun -- There's a blank space between the ability and the power and toughness that is just begging for flavor text. Aside from that, a single mana creature that can repeatedly sacrifice others (even tokens) to grab artifacts permanently is a pretty big deal. It's a nice idea, but pretty damn unbalanced.
3.78/10The Butt -- Aside from some templating suggestions, this is a solid submission. I absolutely love the Izzet's obsession for instants and sorceries. I'd prefer to see a 2/2 if only because it reminds me of the guildmages in some ways, but anywho, nice job.
8.87/10altimis -- I'm not 100% on the need for red on this one. Control of lands is found in mono-blue, as is drawing cards. While the slightly more complex mana cost may help with the overall CMC, it's simply not needed.
6.15/10Dudibus -- I'm not really sure you can play cards out of someone else's sideboard? Not only that, but outside of a competitive location like a tournament, there is no guarantee that your opponent even has a sideboard. Usually it is "own from outside the game" instead of directly a sideboard.
4.92/10Morgothra -- Seeing as how there are only a few cards that can do that... this is fairly narrow. I mean, I guess it covers suspend cards, but it's a little niche. I love the name and flavor of the card, though it is a little silly and probably considered an Un-card in nature. Still, I love the idea!
7.24/10LilyStorm -- Seeing as how ante is not a supported concept at all anymore? No, not really. I never did like the idea of "either you can play for keeps, or let me slim down my deck, your call." And the passing of ownership of a card during a game just feels incredibly wrong. Like, entirely.
1.65/10Yarium -- Reminds me of
Ice Cave, which is actually one of my favorite cards of all time. This is an excellent submission, though the ability to control damn near everything in a single game as long as you can ramp enough mana... slightly scary.
7.75/10YingLung -- The ability is a bit swingy, I mean, any deck that makes use of it is going to include cards like
Bronze Bombshell and all you have to do it keep choosing that. It's just going to be you sacrificing lands back and forth trying to get your opponent to have to choose something not horrible. I dunno...
4.29/10Rush_Classic -- What happens when your devotion to blue goes over their mana cost? Does it fall off? I do love all the creative uses devotion now presents us, and I sincerely hope it's not limited just to Theros. I want to see this mechanic span more space.
7.93/10dtolle -- Now this is creative. It generate a nice tension between taking and losing out. I really like this one. The mana cost could be a little bit higher, but the effect is well worth it.
9.27/10Cato -- Love the idea. I don't know exactly how much good it will do for you in the end, I never did play with
Mindslaver. I do really like the idea of the card, but it's a little light on text. Reminder text and flavor text could help flesh it out.
7.56/10Tevish Szat -- Seems... like a really fun card in Limited. The problem I see is that most players will choose creatures with abilities for their decks, so outside of drafting some pretty basic stuff I just don't see it having much of a use. Very cute idea, but not entirely practical.
3.73/10Confused -- So....
Grand Melee? I mean, unless I'm missing something, this was basically what you were going for, right?
2.41/10tony3 -- You need a CMC of 4 or 5 to deal 5 damage to begin with. I think adding in
or
to gain control of a creature as well seems a little cheap. I can see this costing quite a bit more. The flavor is excellent, though, and you get some great points for that one! Balance is off, but flavor is great.
5.83/10iamajellydonut -- This lacks any ability for theft, it's removal plus mana ramp, but no theft.
0/10Imidazoline -- Interesting win condition, though... strange. I love random cards and alternate win conditions, even if they are not universally loved. The flavor works okay, but not great for me.
6.27/10Winner: dtolleCongrats, man! Excellent submission!
