while i'm at it, i assume commander intends to use the multiplayer commander banlist rather than the french commander banlist as a supplement so clarification would be nice

WTH is French Commander?

And why can't the French play the same games as everybody else? First we had the Paris Mulligan, now we have French Commander? Geez.

also known as duelcommander, http://www.duelcommander.com/ , it's the basics of Commander but made for 1v1 play, not multiplayer play, and has its own banlist to rein in some dominant commanders and mana-accelerators.

i am feeling sorry for all those artifacts

Why? Any deck can play tapland/Mayor and still have a reasonable shot at success...even the Artifact Blast decks. And the Simian Spirit Guide play was pretty sweet, since he could easily shift (assuming his deck was actually Artifact Blast) to Ajani Vengeant, Black Lotus or any other reasonable 4 CMC play.

It was certainly an interesting reveal.

I can't take any group that would ban Tasigur as a Commander seriously, I'm sorry.

Yeah, my SSG play was designed as a feint (my initially submitted deck has no ABlast, but I know I won't be running what I submitted) - was hoping to catch a lot of people (more than the 3 we saw) playing artifact-committed and cause them to waste a card on Mental Misstep on resubmit to be able to push through a singular 3-drop (and my actual non-Blast deck ideas fare better against decks that are only actually using 2 of their cards rather than all 3).

But other submissions have really mucked up my plan. Fewer artifact commits than I hoped for means fewer people potentially being caught by my failed feint. Hello going all-in on A-Blast. Mark7 clearly all in on artifact but also on a damage method that I can't really account for (I was ready for creatures dammit). Ed, CJ, GS, and Rubik clearly prepared to deal with a singular ground creature threat. And now I've got to think and call some audibles, because my script wasn't followed (as it seldom is).

Wait, the revealed card is the one we can't change?

Should have read the rules better.

Indeed. From just this list, it would appear that two decks will definitely beat the three artifact-based decks.

Why feel sorry for the artifact decks?

Let's say everyone was playing the "obvious" deck, and the Black Lotus people decided to counter various things.

I would beat 3 people and have a really good shot at beating two more. I would lose to 3. That would put me at a good chance for 30 points for the round and very likely to get at least 18. At the same time, the two "counter" decks would only have a really good shot at getting 18 points. So I am "likely" to do better than they are if the "obvious" deck choices are made. Valkir and Zietnoba, if smart, will do at least as well. And even then everyone has the option of going Karakas + Cenn's Tactician for the surprise factor (or something else similar).

Edit: I think I'm going to stick with the original deck. Let's me still have my fun and I think I have a good shot at winning looking at the field. I don't see how several people beat me without specifically targeting me (unless the 3rd card already supports it), and I don't think either of the Lotus people will want to try.

The very first thing I started looking at after the reveal, especially since there's a second "prevent damage" deck in play :P. Not sure if it's worth it for 12 points though (assuming it's not some clever feint)...we'll see.

Edit: I'm having fun this round...also, sorry for the meta discussion in thread, but I think most of the complainers left anyways and it's my birthday tomorrow, so whatever, I'm drunk!

Happy drinkday!

Yeah, I don't think any deck is going to specifically 'target' you (or anyone), but people will amend their decks to maximize results against as much expected competition as possible and each deck is one data point in that calculation. That there are already at least five decks that hose "big dumb creature" (sorry, Greater Gargadon, you've been voted off the island); that is causing amendments that people will be paying extra attention to how they win now that they know how they *can't* win. And this will lead to people working around as many decks as they can. Most decks will take some collateral damage from the adjustment and the game is in figuring out which one will escape that. That the decks that work around Energy Field likely also work around yours could sting you.

I would guess that 3 or 4 people are going to be using Black Lotus as their mana source, 1 or 2 people will end up running Artifact Blast, and 1-3 people will end up running Nether Spirit. I think I'll lose to any of those and I'll end up beating the rest of the field, ultimately earning 18-36 points. I could be wrong though.

Don't really care about winning anyways tbh. Will probably miss any format I suggest if I got 1st and raw points don't matter since didn't play earlier rounds.

The spreadsheet appears to be uneditable.

It looks like you've got Sleeper Agent hitting its controller for 3 per turn, but it only hits for 2.

UGH, I always read that 2 as a 3 because it's right next to the power. :bang: Recalculating...

it's a very convincing sleeper agent

which means that it's probably doing its job quite well
