hey why not have a thread for Kickstarter campaigns for cool-looking games.

anyway Spirit Island is on its last day and my brother and I just supported it and you should too maybe? I don't know it looks cool but I don't know much about it but it looks pretty cool.

I just realized how bad a sell the opening post is. Anyway, I'm here to talk about Indivisible.

Some of you may already be aware of Indivisble, as the prototype has been making the rounds on youtube. It's a 2d action-platformer RPG by the same guys behind Skullgirls, and in fact uses the same game engine. They say on the page that it's inspired by games like Valkyria Chronicles (a game which I have never played) and Earthbound (which I've also never played), but the prototype alone is gorgeous and I'd suggest downloading the prototype or looking up a video on youtube to see it in action. It's also got some obvious metroidvania elements going into it, as you can see in the prototype.

Now, they are asking for a lot of money for this campaign -- $1.5 million, to be precise. However, this is because they're only going to run this once. If they make their goals, they'll be getting an additional $2 million from 505 Games and have enough funding to make the entire game. If they don't reach it, the game won't happen. These are the same guys behind the successful campaign for more Skullgirls characters, and they've proven to deliver extras when things come in under budget.

The game itself will have a variety of cultural influences, a lot from Asia but also old cultures like Assyrian and Aztec, to inform the environments, enemies, and allies. There's concept art on the indiegogo page and you can play or watch the prototype to see what I'm talking about. They've still got nearly a month left to reach their goal, so there's plenty of time to sit and think on it.

I just realized how bad a sell the opening post is.
wasn't supposed to be. I wanted to bring it to people's attention but I didn't know enough to feel comfortable advocating for it because I don't want to be responsible for people spending a bunch of money on a thing they don't like 'cause I said it was great.

It's just that you literally posted it the day before the thing ended and the extent of your sell was "I don't know, it looks cool, but I don't know, but it looks cool".

And on that note:

I actually played the prototype of Indivisible (which functions as a fully playable demo complete with boss battle), and sweet jegus this thing is going to be sweet. Without any prompting of my own, the game recognized I had a controller plugged in and asked me to press the buttons that I wanted the buttons as right as I started the dang thing up. No fuss, no muss, no being forced to a certain button configuration. That's the team's experience from fighting games shining through and I love it after having to download a separate program to get my non-standard playstation controller to work with any of my games that wanted an xbox controller.

The prototype itself is hella fun, but of course they basically give you half the special moves that you'd find over the course of the game as well as three of the numerous characters in the span of a 30-minute demo. It is a really complicated but intuitive fighting system that takes pages from Active Time Battle systems of RPGs as well as fighting games, allowing you to switch attacks and pull off long combos by attacking with multiple characters. It's really satisfying to pummel an enemy down to a quarter health before they get an attack in.

I also looked at the refund policy of Indiegogo, and since this is a fixed campaign, if they don't make their goal any money you donate will be refunded to you.

I still encourage people to go try the prototype out for themselves so they can really get a feel for the game. They've even been making small changes to the prototype as people are commenting about it, with UI and settings changes implemented based on feedback they've gotten from players.

Headspace seems like an interesting tabletop RPG.
Cyberpunk setting where people can form a headspace, which is kind of like a hivemind of different individuals. This is kind of a clever way to solve meta-knowledge between players, since everyone knows everything happening between the members. But then you jack up the emotional aspect, and realize there is no going back. You start to feel the trauma of everyone in the party. And then maybe, someone dies. Except they don't; their ghost still lives on in your headspace. And at that moment, Mown grins from ear to ear.

My fingers keep wanting to write the name as headscape instead, which imho sounds cooler.

Wow yeah Headspace looks like it would make for a great RPG setting.

I keep wanting to talk more about Indivisible but I fear people will yell at me for spamming the thread or something. I just really hope it succeeds and the more I read/watch about it the cooler it looks like it's going to be.

Indivisible got an extension and is now sitting at just over $1M with two weeks left and I'm hopeful it gets finished.

I was looking at itch.io the other night on a whim and found a free game called Blacksea Odysee. It turns out that the game is currently on Kickstarter and what I downloaded was their free alpha demo. How I'd describe it is: like Monster Hunter as a top-down shooter in space.

The alpha demo is already really fun. You play as Old Man on a rocket-powered surfboard in space (I dunno either) and throw spears as your bullets with an alt-fire of a harpoon. Once you hit a certain part of a large monster enough, you can harpoon that piece and just tear it off. The boss monsters get absolutely huge and take a long time to literally tear apart. The levels are also randomly generated and contain locked chests which you need keys to unlock to find ship and spear upgrade runes as well as activated items like heals and steroids. It's got some rogue-like elements because of that, but it appears to have some progression like Monster Hunter, with the intent of getting bigger and bigger monsters, so you have a shop in-between hunts where you can buy and sell items and upgrades. I love multi-stage bosses in the way Monster Hunter does it, and I feel Blacksea Odysee captures that feel really well. I think I'll throw some money their way.

I am literally watching the campaign for Indivisible get the last few thousand dollars they need. Whatever is going on with the backers, I think they might actually succeed.

So apparently Indivisible has moved into the pre-production phase. They say this is basically the concepting phase, but I honestly don't know where that puts them. It looks promising, but time will tell. I'm hoping I don't get burned on this project like I did with Double K (which, in retrospect, was probably a dumb thing to back in the first place).

Hey all! Longtime lurker finally posting here, but my board game "Tattoo! The Game of Ink" is coming to Kickstarter on August 2, 2016 through Gaming Paper. I'd really appreciate if you take a look at it! It's a set-making game where the positioning of cards matters, in which players buy, place, and score tattoo designs on their individual arm boards. It features commissioned artwork by many real tattoo artists from around the country, along with ties to two of the games mentioned in this thread: Brian Patterson (artist for Headspace) did the graphic design, and Nolan Nasser (who did art for Spirit Island) did our box and arm board art! There's more info on the game's website, tattoothegame.com, and we'll be posting a bunch more in the coming weeks as we get ready for the campaign launch. Hope you can spread the word and check it out at launch! We'll also be at Gen Con and possibly some other conventions during the month we're running the campaign.

in case anyone was wondering "does razorborne know the developer of this game personally and have they playtested it and are they thus able to tell you in no uncertain terms that it's a pretty great game that's fairly simple to understand but pretty deep strategically and overall quite enjoyable?" the answer to that question is yes. I had a lot of fun playing it, and I'm definitely getting myself a copy once the kickstarter goes up. y'all can do what you want but if you like board games I'd recommend taking a look.

I find it neat that we're attracting creators at all. It's fantastic that our tiny little corner of the internet appears to be growing into its own hotspot attraction.

Hey guys! I apologize for the website funkiness. My web developer was doing some modifications to the site structure right as I was posting the link. THAT SAID! Our BoardGameGeek page now has an image of the box cover, Google's updated itself with the correct link for our page, and the Kickstarter goes live at 11 AM tomorrow. Also, for other cool games currently on Kickstarter, check out "Fate of the Elder Gods" by Greater Than Games/Dice Hate Me Games. The artist who did the boards and box for "Tattoo! The Game of Ink" (Nolan Nasser) did art for that game too, and it's really cool-looking. I like the idea of playing as cultists rather than heroes trying to stop the elder gods from coming into our world. They're over $95k as of this posting. Hoping they'll pick up my next game for publication, too... It's a Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde territory control game that's like a cross between "Betrayal at House on the Hill" and "Small World".

Ah, yes. It's an awkwardly named gam isn't it?

Probably because it's a visuals-heavy pseudo-hypothetical board game and not a hot beverage.
