Anyone interested in Freeform Roleplaying?

The general gist is that it's a PbP without d20 or a GM. You can see it as collaborative storytelling, but the onus is on the players to keep things civil, collaborative (instead of competitive), and creative. Players can spontaneously create encounters, etc, but it's a very loose and ad-hoc thing. As long as it works, is fun and your co-players enjoy it, you can roll with it. :) If you've been to Map of the Planes, Gleemax Roleplaying or Castle of Fun, that's what I'm refering to.

So anyone game? I'll create a thread if there's enough interest.

I'm curious, but I'd probably just watch for the first few days until I get the idea of it. I'd probably jump in at some point.

I'm maybe kinda into this. What kind of post frequency are you aiming for?

Oh sure, Terisia doesnt make the list.

We could make some kind of tavern for sure to at least get the ball rolling. Then sprout off into some sort of adventure or something.

Since we're currently sharing a forum between the various PbP games, we've been tagging thread titles... so perhaps something like [FFRP]The Adjective Noun Tavern ?

Hmm, that feels a little... on the nose.

Well, if you dont like that... you can always call it [FFRP]The Verbing Animal Tavern

@bun: I don't have any requirements, as long as all the players involved sync posting frequencies. I've seen Tavern threads where two different conversations are occuring at different speeds because they each have different posting speeds.

@BH: Yeah I'm thinking of creating a Tavern thread first where adventures can subsequently sprout out from.

Can I label it [RP] since I don't think anyone else will use the tag? d20 players can use [d20], [DnD], [4E] [3.5], etc, so they're not gonna bother with the [RP] tag. :)

In fact I have one named Dredge...

How do we "build" a character? Just figure out what we look like and what we wanna do?

I find that picking a characteristic, trait or power that forms the core of your character. For example, a vampire who's scared of fresh blood, a merfolk who can't swim, or a man with no fingers.

Then just work from there. I'm sure there'll be many fun and interesting interactions if you keep an open mind. :)

WotC deleted all my recent work. But I should be able to direct you to an old FAQ to get the general idea. Though I just laid down so it will have to wait till morning.

Basically youd have your character description and backstory like any D&D game...but youre free to choose whatever skills and powers you want. ..or even habe none at all.

Basically be anyone you want just dont "god mod" even with no rules its not fun when someone else is all powerful and invincible lol

My characters have ranged from egotistical necromancers ...to a mute barmaid... to a mimic that could replicate others spells in combat. Ive had a one eyed orc that led a skyship full of pirates and a dwarven cannon master who always smoked a pipe even when knee deep in gunpowder

Anything is possible really.

I would be interested in trying it out, I haven't done anything like freeform roleplaying in a rather long time.

I find it helps when I'm with a new group to just make like a level X dnd character, usually around 5 is fine, and use that as a reference for what I can/should do. Obviously you won't use the real character, but it helps just to get started. You probably won't need it after the first day or so.

Rules-wise, I'm gonna borrow quite a bit from Gleemax Roleplaying if no one minds. It's basically general stuff like no godmodding, no metagaming, etc. It'll be clearer once I make the thread. :)

Thanks GobO_Sapper! :)

Typically - but not always - Tavern threads are "come and go as you please" type places, so you can wander into them as you have time to chat in-character and such. Also, most times - but again, not always - a tavern is considered "neutral territory" and won't have any pvp conflicts (other than maybe arguing). For any WoW players, think of it as a Sanctuary location such as Dalaran.

I'm certainly willing to hop in and out of the tavern, either with this account or my out-of-uniform account. For anything else, it'll depend on style, frequency, etc.
