Hi,

Why none of you use Mire's malice with Deadbridge Shaman ?

Mire's malice isn't as fun as hymn to tourach but our choice is very limited to discard.

Don't offend the Hymn. Mind rot would be barely playable in this format. Malice only does something good rarely. it's ok as a 1 off; but meh generally. I tried a black aggro deck that did the ingest you, Skinrender you, ingest you, discard you, but it was pretty bad :p

So, a discard deck isn't ready to be played now ?

Because it's was my first deck when I played Magic a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

What's Aristocrats deck ?

I found the origin of this deck: Aristocrats

Mire's malice would be a way for a control deck to beat ramp if it wasn't for acid-moss and the fact that malice costs 4. Maybe when moss is gone malice will become good.

Time to pump this thread up. So here we go Mono Black Control 3.0 after some serious testing with different builds. Current record with this build 9-0 and it feels pretty solid.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EOfxcQ8ksQ some gameplay action.

Deck list:
2 x Sanitarium Skeleton
2 x Vampiric Rites
2 x Bearer of Silence
2 x Shadows of the Past
3 x Call the Bloodline
3 x Grasp of Darkness
1 x Murderous Compulsion
1 x Liliana
3 x Fleshbag Marauder
4 x Read the Bones
1 x Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet
2 x Thought-Knot Seer
2 x Languish
2 x Biting Rain
1 x Gilt-Leaf Winnower
2 x From Under the Floorboards
1 x Ob Nixilis
1 x Ever After

14 x Swamp
3 x Wastes
2 x Westvale Abbey
1 x Ruins of Oran-Rief
1 x Rogue's Passage
4 x Evolving Wilds

Strategy: Keep game in control with removals until u can unleash From Under the Floorboards with lethal amount of tokens instantly with Call the Bloodline. Deck has nice tools to combo Sanitarium Skeleton with enchantment to make 1/1 tokens or card draw / lifegain effects. Since we don't have tools to kill planeswalkers i added Thought-Knot Seer which is good for removing key cards from opponent hand such as Chandra or Sorim.

Something I threw together as an experiment that turned out to be fairly viable.

Grey Aggro

3 x Bonded Construct
3 x Reaver Drone
1 x Sinister Concoction
2 x Despoiler of Souls
2 x Asylum Visitor
2 x Bearer of Silence
3 x Heir of Falkenrath
4 x Sky Scourer
2 x Grasp of Darkness
3 x Warping Wail
2 x Slaughter Drone
4 x Dominator Drone
2 x Matter Reshaper
1 x Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet
1 x Sifter of Skulls
2 x Thought-Knot Seer
1 x Reality Smasher

7 x Swamp
3 x Wastes
2 x Westvale Abbey
2 x Ruins of Oran-Rief
4 x Crumbling Vestige
4 x Evolving Wilds

This deck is a slightly different take on aggro than the dominant White humans. The lynchpin of the strategy is Sky Scourer, a flier that is easy to grow, and Dominator Drone, providing extra damage on a stable body. It also has strong finishers in Kalitas and Smasher. So far the deck has performed admirably but I'd like suggestions for tuning it. The vampires in particular are very hit and miss.

Got bored triying to make a reanimator deck work (HenWen, I'm now using Jorubai Murk Lurker) and waiting for the moon to rise I tried this that is doing surprisingly well...

3x Indulgent Aristocrat
3x Sanitarium Skeleton
2x Despoiler of souls
2x Asylum visitor
2x Carrier Thrall
2x Heir of Falkenrath
2x Call the Bloodline
3x Grasp of Darkness
3x Reave Soul
2x Murderous Compulsion
1x Liliana, Heretical Heale
4x Nantuko Husk
3x Alms of the Vein
1x Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet
1x Elusive Tormentor
2x Languish
1x Ob Nixilis Reignited

16x Swamp
2x Westvale Abbey
2x Rogue Passage
2x Mortuary Mire

I tested with more lands but I think that for low curve and monocolor it's enough.

Not 100% sold of Languish but Nantuko and even vampires can survive it and I got tired of white aggro. Alms is not a great card but in Mono Black is a good finisher and discard value.

Recent additions / testing is Elusive Tormentor. Used only his big body and vampireness so far, no tranformations.

Is fun how when Aristocrat and Husk are out and the opponent can destroy one almost always chooses Husk and you can pump vampires blasting the poor insect yourself. Husk really scares people...

Suggestions?

You have 4 creatures that need colorless to cast, and 2 more that need it to use the casting ability, but you only have 5 of your 24 land producing colorless mana. Does that work out often enough?

Adding some Wastes and 4 Evolving Wilds would help a lot.

Hi there Spaceknight.
I am wondering if you happened to check out the video I posted above. I would highly suggest you do to see how the deck performed and if there was a colourless mana problem. The deck won 3 games in a row that I would say is a good starting basis for saying how consistent the deck is.

Have you built the deck? Have you tested this setup? From your reply it would suggest you probably haven't. I didn't have problems accessing my 5 colourless mana sources, I believe I may of even over compensated as usually when doing land counts you can add roughly half the amount of total mana symbols as a starting mana base, which as my colourless requirement is 6 in total which would equate to roughly 3 colourless mana sources.

Hello there Eriatarka,
I personally am not a fan of running evolving wilds just to fetch a wastes when those 5 slots (4 x wilds 1 x wastes) could be assigned to cards that produce colourless mana but are good verstatile cards like the ones on my deck. Hey why don't you build the list and post your results with wilds and wastes I am intrguied to hear your findings.

One-life: Just an FYI.. that 'You don't know how my deck does unless you build it!' line is rather off-putting to a lot of folks. We've heard this line from some folks that have made some pretty god awful decks.. but they swear by them and tell us we're wrong and don't know what we're talking about. For instance: one guy on here was super proud of his 5 color allies deck that only ran 20 land. He told us he never had mana issues and that we're shouldn't make comments about his deck without trying it. So finally.. after much arguing.. people tried it, and the worries about the mana base were confirmed.. but the dude still stood by his list then.. insisting that we are morons who don't know how to mulligan.

So basically.. you can't use that line around here and expect a positive response.

Also.. I have a pretty similar deck, but I added Evolving Wilds and 3 Crumbling Vestiges, two Shambling Vents (mitigate lifeloss) and 1 plains for a small white splash so I could cast Sorin and Anguished Unmaking. You can't have control without planeswalker hate.

I really do love people who post a deck or a video, but is it possible to have two things at least?
1- Accept criticism (specially when it is constructive)
2- Post a video where the opponents are stronger than the IA or where they have no problems with mana

The deck won 3 games in a row that I would say is a good starting basis for saying how consistent the deck is.

I'm not saying that your deck sucks, but I had to admit that you video has not convinced me given the little adversity in front

Your math is incorrect, and thus your deck should mathematically not do as well as the three rounds you played in which you achieved victory has allowed.
You only have 3 out of 60 cards in your deck that give you a "waste" mana and
4 creatures that need a waste to be able to use. Two of which seem to be punishing cards or wincons if left unchecked and one that has an ability you can't even use without the wastes in play. They may not be an integral part of your winning strategy but what is the point of having cards in your deck that you are unable to play without the mana?

I'm afraid I have to disagree here megabeast, these are merely opinions and are not constructive criticism, a constructive criticism would be based on actually playing the deck and from thier experience of playing that deck, imagine me giving constructive criticism of a film I hadn't watched or a book I hadn't read it would be an opinion as opinions don't necessarily have to be true. As for saying people should build the deck, I can see how this statement can come over negative but it is a question, I am questing why they believe X is true what basis do they have or indeed is this a opinion based on no actually fact finding at all. I was looking and inviting a discussion.

Thanks for your feedback, I do accept constructive criticism I am not dismissing any idea I am merely offering a discussion on what or why they believe that the land base would be X way, as this information was omitted by the responses. So I am left to believe that they aren't constructive cronyism but an opinion which we are all entitled too it doesn't mean it's necessarily true.

My videos are not cherry picked at all, I sit down, hit record and play 3 straight matches. Wether I play good or bad players, it is a honest representation of my experience with the deck. I have other responsibilities outside of making duels content, I record both of my usual video slots in the same day and then edit them the next day. I don't have the time to play 30 odd games to cherry pick the best 3 I'm afraid.

Thank you for your feedback. I have checked many mana fix apps and they do agree that my land count is roughly right most are coming out at 20 black sources and 4 colourless I added extra colourless to over compensate the fact that 4 cards are uncastable without it. You do make an interesting point about these cards but in duels at the moment there is nothing in black that is the same power level of Thought-Knot and Reality Smasher.
