I thought it was more of a "don't worry about it", not "nowhere in the core rulebook does it say ANYTHING about your alignment having to be within a certain range of your deity's alignment". Lol

Definitely kind of makes alignment pretty pointless. Deities too.

I think alignment has its uses still. And deities are still actors beyond divine batteries, especially on Theros where they are very active agents in the world.

There is even roleplaying potential here. What if there is a non-evil minotaur cleric of Mogis? Was he always non-evil or did something happen? Why does he still worship Mogis? Has he tried worshiping other gods only to be rejected? Does he find potential for good in Mogis, perhaps leading a religious revival that can shift Mogis from the God of Slaughter to something more benign? Does he see Mogis solely as a means to an end?

Why did Kruphix endow a Chaotic Evil character with clerical powers? Is Kruphix trying to redeem a character that he prophecies potential in? Is Kruphix just trying to create an agent of chaos to disrupt the pantheon that he no longer feels is sustainable?

That IS interesting, due to clerics of this pantheon unknowingly having power over the gods they worship.

I find that sort of thing fascinating, especially since there's this underlying chicken or egg thing going on in Theros.

How much of the races of Theros were deliberately shaped by the gods versus the opposite.
Did Theros having a merfolk population give rise to Thassa? Or did Thassa make a race in her image?
We know that the Gods can in some way create beings that aren't enchantments, ex Polukranos.
Where's the line?

Probably going to turn out that the gods were all created by mortal races and not the other way around, since they seem to be aiming for the "mega fake false gods" route.

Considering that this current batch of gods is confirmed not the first, I'd say none of them predate the mortal races.

It does seem like mortals were first. It looks like the nature of Theros' Nyx is to be shaped by the unconscious, and common themes, like Jungian archetypes, become the gods, who can then have a hand in shaping mortal affairs.

Hence, Ashiok's unique capacity on Theros.

The short story "Kruphix's Insight" confirms that mortals came first:

"I am the oldest, said Kruphix. But even I do not predate mortal belief. The first time a mortal of Theros looked up into the night sky and said "I wonder...," some part of me came into existence."

And I'm actually pretty sure Polukranos wasn't created by the gods, just imprisoned in Nyx as a constellation for a while.
