I can't wait to curve t3 Oath of Gideon into t4 Tamiyo. Draw two and only be two turns off a gamebreaking ultimate? Yes please!

And, while the deck's base should be GW, I'll definitely run Reflector Mage alongside her, as well as maybe Kiora. Also, that skulking loot dude that madnesses out 3/2s for 2.

Berates us about most common deck scenario. Talks about wanting to use +1 on the same Rare card on both sides on the board.

It's not like Advocate isn't in every deck under the Sun...

Besides, I was talking about a play I want to make. Doesn't mean it's going to be the most common one :P

Tamiyo taps down permanents not just creatures and she can play mind games with the opponent and her +1.
She's basically an advantage machine and should hopefully make sure you are the one with the most advantage.
She's not bad if you're behind either for that very same reason, as she can pull you back up with the advantage she offers.

Tamiyo is good, but people are talking about her as if she is bonkers. I don't think she is out of line with some of the other PW we have.

Big Gideon doesn't need to help you with little bits of card advantage, he can close the game down in a few turns by himself.
Chandra is much more versatile, with damage, PW removal, card selection, and her board wipe. Granted she is more expensive, but I think she is significantly better.
Big Jace is very comparable to Tamiyo. I think his +1 is slightly better overall - scry is considered half a card, so he will reliably draw 1 1/2 cards every turn, whereas Tamiyo will maybe draw two. I think their -2 abilities are quite comparable, tapping lands is just totally niche. And I do think his ultimate fits anywhere, the "cast stuff for free" ability isn't that amazing outside of a combo deck built to exploit it.

Overall, Tamiyo is certainly powerful. Much like all the other PW, she is a "bomb" that will demand a response or win the game on her own. Nevertheless, I think she is merely an above average PW, certainly not above Big Gideon and Big Chandra in power.

She can't tap down lands though... If she could, she would be totally 'bonkers.'

She probably is worse in Duels and it might be people carrying over paper magic hype to this thread but I still think she's awesome.

Well my first impression was that I'd prefer we don't get Tamiyo. I think she will be responsible for too many accidental wins, while having trouble finding a real home (ex: whoops I accidentally managed to curve out in my 3 color aggressive Bant deck and landed a t4 Tamiyo, you lose) - our mana doesn't really cut it for aggressive 3 color decks (this is something I have tested extensively). So for her to be consistently castable, she'll probably have to go into decks with mana fixing, and she doesn't fit as well in those. She is in the right colors for knight of the white orchid though, so maybe?... (Still doubt it).

As for power level, she'll be amazing if we ever have the mana to truly play her.

That's bad logic. You haven't been able to get a three color aggro to work properly, therefore we should be denied tools for a three color aggro deck.

I'm not sure why there's all this talk about the better ultimate on a PW. From my experience in Duels, people fire off any PW ultimate about once a season, that's all. It just doesn't build up all that often, or it builds but the game ends. Is it just me? Do other players reliably see these get used?

Lili with her +2 often reaches ultimate for me.

I ultimate big Jace and Ob very consistently in my Esper deck, but that's a specific deck doing a specific thing. Tamiyo could Ultimate in board stall situations, but usually she will get removed or win the game before then.

I reach ultimates fairly often. Image

Yeah, throughout the Xbox tourney I had flip Nissa Ultimate twice, Nahiri once, Ob once and I could have ultimated Arlinn once, but there was no need. I put at least 3 Gideon Emblems on the board too.

Granted, I was playing a Superfriends deck.

That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm just reiterating a complaint I've always had about duels in a different way... Too many silver bullet moments, and in this specific instance, not being able to use the card correctly. Fwiw I will absolutely build around her if we get her, the moment we get her. Time will tell if I can get the mana to work though. Possibly tokens, possibly humans, possibly just good stuffs. But I have doubts those decks won't simply be better without adding in a 3rd color, just for the occasional blowout.

There isn't much room for doubts.
What kind of support we have right now for 3 colors decks is mainly focused on control, and still better doable in 2 or 4 colors forms.

If Tamiyo ends up being worth it, better to splash her, if not going directly PW.

Do you guys think bant has enough evasion with green trample and azorius airbeats + skyrider elf to fully support tamiyo's + 1 no matter what creature card you draw?

You don't even need evasion. Tamiyo's +1 just needs the creature to do damage not necessarily to the face, also you can put it on any creature which includes your opponent's or in 2HG you can put it on your teammate's creatures.
Lets not forget it also lasts through until your next turn.

I mean... my opponent usually just scoops the second I use my planeswalker's ultimate...

@haven: it says specifically combat damage.

Which is possibly doable if white is your root color, thanks to the Knights being able to fetch the right duals for the splash. So maybe WG midrange - humans or tokens - using knight and oath of Nissa to find or ignore the need for U mana. You don't get to run reflector Mage in that deck, but I think it will still be good. You probably go tokens, btw, because always watching will be tough in a deck that really wants 3 colors, but I'd try both.

Hmmmm... I can't wait to know what cards we are getting.
