Man, I tried sooooo hard to make weapons trainer work. I just kept coming up short. I really wanted to do something with Boros too. Le sigh.

CGB did something with Weapons Trainer in a Boros deck he likes on stream.

I doubt it was anything more than an end of season diversion to try and keep things interesting. The problem I ran into with the card, is that it was too conditional, and really only worked when the opponent did nothing to stop you. But, I felt the decks were just a bit short on quality, so maybe, just maybe we'll get the card or two it missed in this expansion. /shrug

I think the biggest problem with him is our underwhelming pool of equipments. A 3/2 body for 2CMC that pumps the team +1/+0 should be very playable. The fact that it's hard to find even 4 equipments that are worth running (much less the amount you'd want to run to make sure he triggers) is what's really dragging him down IMHO.

I just don't flood the board with speculative garbage.

I've posted a build on every single deck I thought vaible this season, with the only exception being PW.deck

I'm in on mill, ramp, control, aggro, fliers, tempo, etc... I honestly can't think of a legit build I haven't posted on at this point; I even did werewolves and vampires (except as mentioned above, but I'm not interested, sorry. I don't want to play 30 minute games).

Wtf are you talking about?

In the decklist section or the constructed section? I don't even go to the decklist section anymore.. its too cumbersome to find anything except what's on the most recent page.

Both... Mostly constructed. And I'm not sure why it matters.

@TIMH I had the same thought when I was trying it out. I just couldn't find the equipment card that didn't feel like card disadvantage in the deck. Now that I think of it, maybe the skulk equipment, skeleton key would have been the right one to try, as it may be able to replace itself at least. But I goes against the whole point of the deck, so meh, probably not.

Still, the Weapons trainer is good in Boros humans even without any equipment. He's a 3/2 for 2.

Magic's a simple game, 2 people take turns playing cards and in the end Divinevert wins 2-0...

Consider the other options for 2 though... Militia Captain, Thalia's Lt, declaration in stone, consul's Lt, Abbott (if fixed), and more to come I'd suppose. You really need the equipment, or it's a bust, even before we get new cards to chose from.

If only trainer had boosted for any artifact. It's the difference between meh, and one of the best cards of the format. Imagine if a thopter met the condition. /le sigh

Rhox War Monk, Wooly Thoctar, Sprouting Thrinax, and all the other badass three color cards from 2015 would be an awesome bonus pack for this game.

They would be nice, but I would imagine it would be a nightmare to play them with the mana pool we have now.

Stainless/Wizards, since this game is a sealed format; add in some Tri-Lands for the one time.

Worth anything? I'd be interested in trying it out with a few cards in mind. None of which being white, but w/e.

Could be good with Lone Rider. It certainly curves well.

Huh...Almost like a reverse Zuran Orb, albeit no land requirement. It could be something in a control deck to help it push past mid into late game when it has lots of cards but not life. It is definitely something to test out.

I was thinking with the Jeskai build where I use Fiery Temper and Just the Wind as playsets. There aren't many good discard outlets apart from Lightning Axe and baby Jace I'd want to invest in, but this would at least turn every Fiery Temper into a Lightning Helix

Hmmmm... So possibly Boros then, but I doubt it. I think this card finds its natural home in WB, so if you want Helixes splash to Mardu, IMO. You'll end up with some kind of madness, control, value deck, and it could be fun - possibly even competitive, although I seriously doubt it.

Am I missing something? Rabid Bite is already a thing, and for just :1: more it doesn't endanger your guy.

The reduced cost is pretty important, but obviously comparing it to Lightning Bolt is like comparing Dispel to counterspell.

Just surprising me that the few people who have commented on prey upon were singing high praise, when the comments I've seen on rabid bite around here largely dog on it and only give it a little credit for being removal in :g:. While it's prob not the same people saying both things, it's just got me confused about the vastly different takes on an effect that's only separated by :1: (though the more expensive one doesn't have the same damage exchange drawback).

I don't have any experience with previous versions of digital magic, so I didn't know prey upon has prior history like zzmorg mentioned.

Wow, conversation is going fast on here. Okay, so... first off, I'm not dogging on Rabid Bite, the card is amazing and I will kill all of your stuff with Gnarlwood Dryad when/if she arrives. I already use a playset in a green control deck I'm running. Rabid Bite is excellent for mono-G and useful in some two-color builds perhaps.

I admit that I was being a bit facetious by comparing Prey Upon to Lightning Bolt, the card is not nearly that reliable or instant-speed (I should've put in an emoticon, I see now). It compares more to Bone Splinters on a bad day when you lose your critter, and on the really bad days it can't get rid of what it needs to destroy. On the good days though, it can be better than a Flame Slash. Notice that everything I am comparing it to costs 1 mana; this is a very relevant difference between it and Rabid Bite if you are running green aggro or even green midrange. What's the difference in one or two mana for a removal spell? Shock and Reality Hemorrhage. Again, that might not be a fair comparison, but it illustrates the point. For 3 mana, you could drop Lambholt Pacifist and Prey Upon in one mean, lean turn 3, but Rabid Bite has to wait a crucial turn.

Anyway... suffice to say that I will be happy to have Prey Upon for green to tinker with.

Seems worth testing. Can at least turn your lands into life if you're flooded or in the very late game.

I wouldn't doubt it too much. Mardu control has a reanimate theme, something this card goes in hand with. I think W/B will go less for madness and more for targeted discard (should we get it).

That's a good point. You can run Mardu, and take advantage of the anti PW tech red offers, the sweepers from W and B, and then play the long game set up. It's not a deck I would build, but it sounds decent as I type this. We have some excellent finishers in those colors now between Chandra, Avacyn, the two new Angels, etc... It will be a bit weird, but overall I bet it's good. It certainly has access to all of the best removal in Duels right now.

There's also Welcome to the Fold which would benefit from only needing one white as the activation cost for it's Madness...

I'd be more open to playing Fold for sure if we get this.

If welcome to the fold wasn't get love before, I don't see how this fixes it. It's life gain, it's not an OP effect or anything.

If I'm looking for more madness cards in Blue and Red, it's an option.
