Fun stuff with Eldritch Evolution:

The already mentioned Matter Reshaper into Reality Smasher (and Reshaper's death trigger)
Priest of the Blood Rite into Gaea's Revenge/Omnath, Locus of Rage + land (and the Demon token)
Seed Guardian into Greenwarden of Murasa + grab back the Guardian, or Woodland Bellower + Sylvan Advocate/Tireless Tracker + drop a land and crack a clue (and the Seed Guardian token)

I am not saying the card is playable but target player discards 1 spell at random for 2 mana is much better than a mind rot. If you have never had hymm played against you I promise it isn't fun. Another example of how terrifying the word random can be it made a 2 mana planes walker 100% unplayable. #StillLoveYou #TibaltTown4Lyfe

The issue with discard isn't so much that our discard outlets are kinda crappy (though that doesn't help) it's that discard, like lifegain, is best when it's incidental. It's why things like Liliana's Specter are cool but Mind Rot not so much. If you're filling your deck with cards that a) force both players into top deck mode (you by playing discard cards, the opponent by discarding cards) and then b) are absolute dead draws late game then you're in for a whole world of hurt.

It's why discard needs to be incidental or your pool also needs to give you access to junk like The Rack or cards that care about either player having nothing in their hand. Unfortunately our pool has little of either.

I would really like to see new archetypes become viable, but so far I just don't see it. Blue got some nice instants/sorceries matter cards, but this doesn't address blue's core weakness of rolling over to early green and white aggro.

Zombies would be cool, but it seems like the tribe just keeps on getting more very expensive cards when what the deck really needs is something very aggressive like Geralf's Messenger.

Delirium: there is no shortage of cards that have delirium payoff. The problem is delirium takes a while to activate and too many cards suck without it. Kindly Stranger 2/3 for 3 - no thanks. So you end up with a "delirium or bust" mentality and then you have so many suboptimal cards devoted to achieving delirium that the slight advantage of delirium synergy is gone, not to mention the consistency issues.

RB vamps gets new cards, but they are curve toppers the deck really doesn't need. The core problem of vamps is the inconsistency of madness/madness enablers, still a tier 2 deck.

Meanwhile white and green get a bunch of powerful cards that are individually consistent, powerful, and good. Go Wizards.

Getting Murder is great and all.. but that's not exactly what Black needs. Black still rolls over and dies to planeswalkers.. and it's a huge, glaring weakness. I don't care if it costs 5 mana.. or even if it's a sorcery (ala Angelic Edict).. but black needs planeswalker removal to really compete with White and Green.

With Origins they also stated "Discarding cards at Random, and random events in general are unfun".

At this point, they might've been tainted by the Whispers of Emrakul.

That was a must have. They already stated that EMN would have reverted back to the old priority, after the first SOI statement about a fall fix (for clues).

It would've been breaking news if they announced a delay for priority fix.

Besides that, their "Addressing the priority issue" might imply cutting off all instants, badly working cards and double-faced PW. That's a way to do it as well.
