What I want to know is if Cryptolith Fragment counts as both an artifact and a creature when discarded for delirium purposes.

Only the front side of a DFC counts in any zone other than the battlefield. (Barring any change to DFC rules in this set.)

I think I'm going to like that card for aggressive black decks.

I think this has some potential - both as a general mechanic to upgrade (instead of Auras - they really seem to hate Auras), and this card in particular.

Consider something like Wall of Resurgence, keep the aggro decks off you for a bit, then convert the wall into a 3/4 with evasion without even costing a card. Or even just a quick Jaddai Offshoot, drop your first few turns of land, then you get the discounted Emerge cost. Any cheap creature with ETB or a bonus you can immediately benefit from, then step up - might even make Gravediggers interesting again.

Fetch any legendary creature you say? Don't mind if I do.
Wonder if this is too good for Duels, many rares and mythics are legendary and this could break our limit a bit.

We'll get this though for sure, 10/10.

That melded angel card makes my Timmy all kinds of tingly. The 4/4 tutor seems really good too.

I'm interested in playing with these meld cards. Feeling better about seeing them in duels rather than paper magic tho - just from an aesthetics angle. Melded creature seems like a clunky eyesore on a tabletop...

:b::b:
I would build with all of them - even the rats abomination. The larger (CMC) piece fetches the smaller one from GY, and since it melds at combat phase, you can cast both and meld at 7CMC for a hasty menace fueled all army blitz attack. Could make for a fun :b::g: deck that generates a lot of scion/plant/mysteries/etc tokens. Graveyard meld half also fetches back Trackers and Advocates.

:w::w:
The angel one is pretty sick. The 4 CMC piece would see play in decks that don't even bother with the other piece. Not so with either part of rats meld. The fact that the larger piece fetches back smaller piece and puts it straight in play is nice. Makes exile removal that much more important. Don't think it fundamentally alters control builds, but will make the blue devoid exile counters and white exile spot removal spells more important. Downside is unless I fetched the smaller piece back into play with the larger piece, I may not want them to meld and open myself up to a 2 for 1... Transforms at endstep, so slower to do something with the combined version than the rats. Upside is meld version can't be hit by declaration/purge/unmaking. Biggest weakness is of course rarity restrictions with part being mythic.

:r::r:
Would like to try the Hanweir one in a :r::w: humans deck. Can't fetch pieces back like the other two melds, but 1/2 is land in a format without much land destruction, so it still doesn't seem like it will be too much trouble to assemble combo (except for rarity restrictions). This, like the :w: meld, has playable pieces without necessitating meld. Melds on command with :3::r::r:, so I think this is least succeptable being to 2 for 1 before you can attack with it.

Might think these wouldn't make it into duels, except the fact about a duels design lead being involved in EM makes it seem likely we will get them. Really hope so...

Brisela to Sigarda:
nii

Trap alert.
Also blasphemy considering Angels don't have gender.

Yeah, we're hyping Brisela a bit too much. Rarity restrictions, no viable tutor so far, bit pricey to pull.
The more I look, the more I believe that those meld card require green and some ramp. Naya for 2? Naya!.
Nah, maybe just a Selesnya with clues.

I'm still not sold on the rats/scavengers meld. It still seems too pricey and weak. Easy to get rid off.

But it could still be fun with Eldrazi Displacer in play. You flicker Chittering Host at the end of the opponent's turn, Graf Rats and Midnight Scavengers return to the battlefield in its place, triggering Midnight Scavengers' etb, allowing you to retrieve a 3 cmc creature from your graveyard, then prior to battle they meld back into Chittering Host, triggering its etb of menace and +1/0 to all your creatures.

That's indeed a fancy combo, but the Scavengers dig for cmc or less, and unless you are going for avoidance weenies or sac, there won't be much bang for your (my) buck.

Also, I can't feel viable coupling Displacer requiring with a B/W focused deck.

I need more cards, more stuff to see as any other else, but that 2 black meld combo is still too pricey and weak in my eyes. That damn rat can be killed pre-combat with too many instants.

On the other hand, melding Angels have good prices, versatility and can be naturally protected in that color.
Hanweir is in the middle ground, being able to drop the land and meld asap, but melding in a weaker creature when compared to Brisela.

We'll see. At first, I actually drooled for a fancy Izzet Hanweir/Vile Aggregate combo.
After seeing the meld price, I'd like it better in some other color combination.

I'm sad that it has the word "converted" in it. If the sacrifice contributed for colored mana (as in Kamigawa's "offering" mechanic) it would have probably forced Stainless to code a function that retrieves the non-converted cost of a card. :evil:

Well, resolve Brisela, Voice of Nightmares and that's GG for 90% of your control cards. 4 mana Hard counters might have to be a thing

except all I need is a lightning bolt and Gisela dies

The inability to removed the color portion of the cost gives these a minimum cost to Emerge. That's probably a good design. Wouldn't want to just throw them down for free in place of that guy who's stuck under Suppression Bonds or Visions of Brutality... oh, wait, they don't want you playing Auras on the opposing creatures, either, do they. ARRRGGGHHHH!

Also, I'm sure there will be some interesting tactical advantage to being able to Emerge from a tapped creature. Swing with something and get back untapped defense. That might slow down a few aggro decks that like to just trade blows and hope they hit you faster than you hit them.

It might be interesting to see some otherwise overpriced cards find their way into Emerge combos. For example, is Dauntless Cathar an interesting creature to sacrifice, but not worth 3 mana by himself? Well that's going to knock down the Emerge price. The question is how expensive the Emerge creatures get to make that step-up worth it. (and the other question if the Cathar survives long enough to be sacrificed.) Every expansion I hope I can finally make an Undead Servant deck. Has its time come at last???

Emerge is a legit good keyword. Fairly simple, clean, does something cool, works with the lore, it's got it all.

Emerge could work well with a Crats based strategy. Another sac outlet that could potentially allow us to force out a big threat of our own by throwing away a threat of the opposing player.

So what do y'all think about this card:

Image

It's easier to splash than Celestial Flare, it could swing a game around with gaining 4 life, and giving pseudo vigilance to creatures; paying 6 mana for all three modes in the late game is just value. So good. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
