I'm interested in playing with these meld cards. Feeling better about seeing them in duels rather than paper magic tho - just from an aesthetics angle. Melded creature seems like a clunky eyesore on a tabletop...
I would build with all of them - even the rats abomination. The larger (CMC) piece fetches the smaller one from GY, and since it melds at combat phase, you can cast both and meld at 7CMC for a hasty menace fueled all army blitz attack. Could make for a fun
deck that generates a lot of scion/plant/mysteries/etc tokens. Graveyard meld half also fetches back Trackers and Advocates.
The angel one is pretty sick. The 4 CMC piece would see play in decks that don't even bother with the other piece. Not so with either part of rats meld. The fact that the larger piece fetches back smaller piece and puts it straight in play is nice. Makes exile removal that much more important. Don't think it fundamentally alters control builds, but will make the blue devoid exile counters and white exile spot removal spells more important. Downside is unless I fetched the smaller piece back into play with the larger piece, I may not want them to meld and open myself up to a 2 for 1... Transforms at endstep, so slower to do something with the combined version than the rats. Upside is meld version can't be hit by declaration/purge/unmaking. Biggest weakness is of course rarity restrictions with part being mythic.
Would like to try the Hanweir one in a
humans deck. Can't fetch pieces back like the other two melds, but 1/2 is land in a format without much land destruction, so it still doesn't seem like it will be too much trouble to assemble combo (except for rarity restrictions). This, like the
meld, has playable pieces without necessitating meld. Melds on command with
, so I think this is least succeptable being to 2 for 1 before you can attack with it.
Might think these wouldn't make it into duels, except the fact about a duels design lead being involved in EM makes it seem likely we will get them. Really hope so...
