Is insidious mist glitched/bugged? The timing seems so weird and just now my game kinda froze when it was supposed to flip

Hello all.

Brand new here at the forum. Was fetching great decks from this forum to play and decided to contribute (if this... thing can be considered as such...).

Toying around with the idea of a "different" re-animator deck and with all the discard power that provides the new red cards I ended with this.

Visit the catacombs (bring the torches)

3 Insolent Neonate Discard, draw, some early damage... ideal for this concept
3 Lightning axe Discard and hit fatties
3 Carrier Thrall Mana accelerator and early body. Not very sure about this
2 Heir of Falkenrath Flip for flying critter and discard.
1 Call the bloodline Another discard machine. Unsure about this too.
1 Liliana, Heretical Healer Discard and... well
2 Fleshbag marauder To make some space for the big boys to hit.
1 Olivia, mobilized for war Love this one. Can make a reanimated guy a fast and bigger reanimated one. Maybe to be removed since it does not work with Plated Crusher but so lovely...
3 Fiery Temper Just in case you have no biggies to discard... hit
3 Read the bones Must refill your hand somehow with this discarding machine
2 Languish Black reset button
3 Necromantic Summons Rise!
2 Rise from the Grave I said rise!
1 Ob Nixilis Reignited Need one. Is useful. Is nasty.
1 Ever After Only one of this. Not sure of the number of reanimator spells. In the tests so far I got always one or two. Sometimes too late but against very fast decks.
1 Alhammarret, High Arbiter Fun if you bring him back fast
3 Plated crusher Re-animator must
1 Omnath, Locus of Rage Not very useful so far to be honest...
1 Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger
1 Kozilek, the Great Distortion Dispel ability very fun but not very useful IMO

Lands

7 Swamp
5 Mountain
2 Cinder Glade
2 Westvale Abbey
2 Dragonskull Summit
4 Cinder Barrens

I'm very unsure of the balance of discard engines and some big critters. The mana base is not one or my talents too... so any help and comments will be greatly appreciated.

Swapped in avaricious dragon, not very impressed so far. Lost game 19 to a mage-ring bully 2x disperse and 2x twin bolt back to back keeping my creatures off the board while I had no removal in hand.

yeah, I think if it ain't br0ke, don't fix it. Keep going with your build until it loses and THEN take a hard look at your decklist and ask yourself if there are any underperformers. Do you need more removal? All that stuff.

Avaricious Dragon is brutal sometimes. I played one on the Twitch stream some time ago and it was torture trying to figure out when to play him cuz I was holding so much face-burn

Hey, guys! I'd like a little help with this take on vampire theme of mine. Core intention is to go an aggro-control way with default pressure of Heir of Falkenrath/Ravenous Bloodseeker + Incorrigible Youths early turns and then stay viable with card advantage synergy of Macabre Waltz (which essentially transforms into Necromantic Summons/Zombify + card advantage with all those 2-3 mana madness dudes), buffs from Indulgent Aristocrat and other high-tier cards of ours.
And it does work when all the pieces fall into their places, but problems, naturally, arise when they don't - any kind of mana screw or flood and it becomes painful to watch. We don't have any real tools of card selection in here and it's... just terrible. I tried to play around with Read the Bones/Insolent Neonate/Skeleton Key (though, i have to say, this one was a lot better and much more useful than i expected when i did manage to utilize it, but that "Equip 2" does feel too heavy) and none of those seem enough. So, any suggestions?

P.S. Also, i'm not sure on From Under the Floorboards - instant speed Gisa's Bidding with 2 untapped 2/2 for 3 does work better early/mid game while lacking that ougmpf later on.

Kindred Supreme

Creatures (19)

2 x Indulgent Aristocrat
3 x Ravenous Bloodseeker
3 x Heir of Falkenrath
2 x Asylum Visitor
1 x Liliana, Heretical Healer
3 x Bloodmad Vampire
1 x Olivia, Mobilized for War
1 x Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet
3 x Incorrigible Youths

Instant(4)
4 x Fiery Temper

Sorcery (7)
3 x Macabre Waltz
2 x Read the Bones
2 x From Under the Floorboards

Enchantment(5)
3 x Sinister Concoction
2 x Stensia Masquerade

Planeswalker (2)
1 x Ob Nixilis Reignited
1 x Chandra, Flamecaller

Land(23)
2 x Smoldering Marsh
2 x Dragonskull Summit
4 x Evolving Wilds
7 x Mountain
8 x Swamp

I think you need to focus the deck more.
You have some cards that only make sense in a very aggressive shell (Bloodmad Vampire, Stensia Masquerade, Ravenous Bloodseeker), and some cards that only make sense in a late-game deck (Ob Nixilis, Macabre Waltz, From Under The Floodboards). So, whichever game-plan you choose, you have some cards that conflict with that plan.

If you want to be an aggressive deck, I'd start by cutting the walkers, Waltz's and Floodboards and add in more aggression with stuff like Insolent Neonate and Alms of the Vein.
If you want to be a bit more of a Mid-range deck, I'd cut the hyper-aggressive cards and add in a few boardwipes as well as some more removal and card-advantage to help you out.

How about something very, very aggressive ?

Something like :

21x Creatures
4xInsolent Neonate
3xHeir of Falkenrath
3xOlivia's Bloodsworn
1xOlivia, Mobilized for War
2xAsylum Visitor
2xFlayer Drone (I know, not a vampire, but come on 3/1 Haste first strike for 3 is aggressive enough)
3xIncorrigible Youths
2xVoldaren Duelist
1xMindwrack Demon (Who cares about our life total, they are the one that are on a clock.)

18x Spells
3xLightning axe
4xAims of the Vein
4xFiery Temper
2xSinister Concoction
3xInfectious Bloodlust
2xSenseless Rage

21x Land

Basically, all creatures are either evasive (Menace, Flying) or aggressively costed (Low cost, haste, utility...).
Damage spells should go to face, or on creatures that prevent your own creatures from dealing damage.

I'm pondering including 2xRead the bones as additional card draw (along 2xAsylum Visitor) to find the final "OOMPH" to finish the opponent

Llist posted off the top of my head, not tested yet, and there might be some better cards to use to achieve that plan in Radkos.

Avacyn's Judgment can be a nice madness finisher, I think it's better than Alms of the Vein. In a full-on agressive list I would also want at least 2 copies of Stensia Masquerade with the full set of Bloodmad Vampire. Why go for Flayer Drone if you can give your whole team first strike as a combat trick and the counters are also a bonus, for fliers especially. I quite like LegenVD's vamp list, I had the most success with it.

Rant about Vamps ahead, yogi with me for a moment

At last I tried this morning to make a Vamp deck, and to my dismay it was soon clear that most of the Vamps we got kinda suck. Even uberused ones like Youths are poo-poo when you try to play them, or at least it seemed so to me in just a handful of games.

So it took me a couple hours to arrive to something satisfactory, and it ended having more than 1/3 of non-vamps, lol. And it's quite different from the approaches I see posted here.

Imho, it's better than the usual Vamps, but I haven't really playtested it more than a dozen games, nor truly played a lot of Vamps, so I well can be wrong :P Input will be really welcomed.

Bloody Heirloom

3 x Insolent Neonate
2 x Sinister Concoction
2 x Dead Weight
3 x Neglected Heirloom

2 x Asylum Visitor
3 x Kessig Forgemaster
3 x Heir of Falkenrath
2 x Avacyn's Judgment
1 x Call the Bloodline

1 x Liliana, Heretical Healer
4 x Fiery Temper
1 x Olivia, Mobilized for War
2 x Kindly Stranger

1 x Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet
2 x Elusive Tormentor
1 x Mindwrack Demon

1 x Ob Nixilis Reignited

1 x Chandra, Flamecaller

10 x Swamp
6 x Mountain

2 x Dragonskull Summit
2 x Smoldering Marsh
3 x Evolving Wilds
2 x Westvale Abbey

As you can see, it's a Vamps/Good stuff deck with a Delirium/Madness subtheme.

Kindly Stranger is barely played when in the right deck it's an awesome card. One of the Neonates can be a Indulgent Aristocrat, still deciding.

Now, what puts this deck above the rest of Vamps I have tried is, funnily enough, Neglected Heirloom, a supposedly Werewolves card. It gives a lot of needed speed to the deck, and what's more important, inevitabily of a short

NH is good with Neonates, really good with Heirs, Forgemasters (the reason they are there instead of Bloodsworns...) and Strangers...AND it becomes almost broken with Tormentors.

Elusive Tormentors are one of the best creatures to put the NH on...and NH is the card that makes Tormentor work.

A 3/4 (or more with Olivia/Aristocrat) hexproof indestructible unblocable creature is no slouch...but a T5 7/7 one wins games (or T6 if you expect removal...) Believe me.

There are 10 creatures that can flip the NH, Delirium is reachable mid-game with the enchantments and the madness mechanics, you can usually dump your hand pretty fast so Visitors rock...and the 3 PWs round it up nicely. It's mana hungry, hence the 25 lands, for the moment...maybe I'll cut to 24.

Thoughts?

It just dawned on me that HuskAbonition.deck got a bunch of awesome cards and a new possible Death Touch subtheme

Chemical Warfare

2 x Asylum Visitor
3 x Carrier Thrall
2 x Rancid Rats
3 x Grasp of Darkness
1 x Avacyn's Judgment

1 x Liliana, Heretical Healer
2 x Graveblade Marauder
1 x Fleshbag Marauder
3 x Thopter engineer
1 x Retreat to Hagra
1 x Olivia, Mobilized for War
4 x Nantuko Husk
1 x Read the Bones
1 x Act of Treason

1 x Languish
2 x Pia and Kiran Nalaar
1 x Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet

2 x Chandra's Ignition
1 x Ob Nixilis Reignited

1 x Ever After
1 x Chandra, Flamecaller

7 x Swamps
6 x Mountains

2 x Smoldering Marsh
2 x Dragonskull Summit
1 x Rogue's Passage
1 x Westvale Abbey
3 x Evolving Wilds
3 x Cinder Barrens

To the basic Rakdos Nantukonition core, new aditions of note include:

Asylum Visitor: in a deck that has Chandra Ignition always in mind, a P3 2 CC creature is always good. The Madness is a bonus with Lily, Olivia or Chandra (same for Judgement). And she can get us a handful of cards in the late game, she isn't a dead topdeck.

Rancid Rats: a cheap creature with Death Touch means that the Ignition/Death Touch combo starts to be somewhat reliable. We have 4 creatures with Death Touch (just 1 Marauder, sorry...too low on power) + Retreat to Hagra to give it to any of our critters... and 2 more creatures with Lifelink...and then, the Husks. That means that our Ignitions, when they show, are gonna be probably devastating...more devastating, I mean. Amazing blocker, but only 2, too weak in itself to put more there. Evasion, can ping for the last life points.

Retreat to Hagra: as mentioned, Death Touch at will is huge for a Ignition/husk deck. The power bonus is nice for our thopters/rats, and the damage/lifegain can help too. Just one tho, to minimize the problems of an inherently passive play. The split between EW and Barrens is for this.

Olivia, besides being an ok creature in herself, doesn't seem to synergize too much with the themes of the deck...but just the possibility of making explosive surprise hasted Husks garantee her inclusion. Combs with the 3 Madness cards too, makes vamps for Kali and some minor other fancy interactions

Kalitas is even better here than usual, because all our cheap creatures are zombies or vamps, so he hits the board already pre-loaded. Also, Ignition. Also, zombies for the Husks. Also...bah, he's just awesome in any circunstance in this deck, believe me :D

Graveblade: good as blocker, Death Touch, comb with the Husks, can become a menace in himself...can be lethal with Ignition

Just one Act...I hate having them without husks, I want to minimize the situational plays. Still, our only answer to a lot of threats, and thus, required. Probably should be 2, in fact.

EA is awesome here...recurring P&K+Engineer/Husk, Kali, Olivia+Husk, Visitors for the draw, Bag for Ula/GR...there's a lot of nice plays there

I think this is still a good deck

So, where are you guys at with Rakdos Vampires? I ran this list a couple days ago and while it doesn't feel like tier 1, it still seems like a very decent deck:

Creatures (20):
4 x Insolent Neonate

2 x Asylum Visitor
3 x Heir of Falkenrath
3 x Olivia's Bloodsworn

4 x Bloodmad Vampire
1 x Olivia, Mobilized for War

3 x Incorrigible Youths

Non-creature spells (19):
3 x Sinister Concoction
3 x Lightning Axe

2 x Avacyn's Judgment

4 x Alms of the Vein
4 x Fiery Temper
3 x Stensia Masquerade

Lands(21):
9 x Swamp
8 x Mountain
2 x Dragonskull Summit
2 x Smoldering Marsh

Notable omissions from this list are Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet and Elusive Tormentor, which I found too slow. I'd rather use my Concoction/Lightning Axe to madness out something good instead of tapping all my mana for a 4-drop (even if it's a good one); I'll rarely have more than 4-5 lands in play and as it stands this deck works perfectly fine on 3 lands.
The cards I'm sold on the least are Stensia Masquerade and Avacyn's Judgment, but both of them are cards that can be cast for Madness, which is really important to the deck, and I feel like there are no other good replacements (I've come down on Senseless Rage a fair bit). Including e.g. Exquisite Firecraft over Avacyn's Judgment would mean a fair bit less flexibility and less Madness cards (and with 14 discard outlets you want all of your 22 Madness cards).

Landbase: Reliable turn 2, reliable turn 3, have as many lands come into play untapped as possible. Does it all.

Masquerade is so essential to that deck. I liked Avacyn's Judgment for some super flexible removal options with a Lightning Axe or whatever. I tried Radkos Madness Vamps more than any other archtype since the expansion and i'm convinced it's nowhere close to Tier 1. I'd go on 3 game losing streaks all the time. It's a combo deck and Jesus hates me.

Senseless Rage is only good to use as a combat surprise pump with upside (cuz it stays). I really liked using it to get out of Languish and Grasp range...as a surprise if possible. discard mechanics are really important.

Masquerade is that kind of card that doesn't do anything without being on the board, when you have the opponent 2 off lethal. Its effect and the ability to Madness it are strong enough to keep it in for now, but I could see this not being correct.

The deck is nowhere near Tier 1 currently because it fares poorly vs. sweepers. If the Meta were more aggressive, this deck would thrive as I believe it's favoured in aggro Mirrors due to efficient removal.

The deck's not even great in aggro mirrors. It beats Mono-White, but it loses to go-wide strategies in or and to Burn/Act of Treason . It's low Tier 2, and probably the worst of the commonly played aggro decks (possibly even the worst commonly played deck period). The problem isn't even that solvable - it's inherent to the way the deck is built. Your power is through madness tricks, at which point you have a "combo" deck. But the reward for comboing off isn't winning the game, it's just becoming a respectable Tier 1 aggro deck. If you ever fail to have the madness card or the discard outlet, the deck is a pile of uncastably expensive junk. There's very little payoff for the increased rate of failure compared to other decks.

If I ever built an Esper Control deck, it would still somehow contain 2x Sylvan Advocate, 2x Tireless Tracker, 1x Nissa, Vastwood Seer, 1x Reclamation Sage, 1x Nissa, Vital Force, and 1x Woodland Bellower.

Basically what Zerris said, it's a bunch of pretty good creatures that get overwhelmed by the stronger aggro decks and wiped into obscurity by control and midrange. It'd be fast by Origins standards, but it's slow as dirt compared to decks like Humans.
