Looked like Azorius Fliers to me... Which btw is an excellent archetype. I hope I don't get matched against him. Who is the UR Eldrazi list? I want to check that out.

PlanesWalkers are just as pop'lar as predicted, and a surprising amount of UX control.

iOS got the better and more interesting deck. I flipped a coin. /shrug also, sorry, I'm not playing that much right now, so no time to try (random) original stuff.

When I put together my list, which is Esper Control, I figured my worst matchups were hyper aggro. My thinking is that I always want to be one tick higher and slower than my opponents. As in, midrange beats aggro, control beats midrange, aggro beats control. I thought they would be alot of humans at first, and I built Mardu Control to deal with that. But then 4 color Superfriends really started punishing Humans, so I wanted a deck tuned to beat Walkers. After going through the options of what beats walkers, I eventually settled on "well what beats everything?" Good old counters.

Treating LoC's card list as accurate, there are zero Plated Crushers in the field. Out of 24 decks, there are only FOUR Gaea's Revenge. This tournament is going to make going long very, very doable.

I built my deck from the ground up, which makes it even more confusing that I somehow ended up with an identical list as Witty_Name. I started with counters, because that kills Walkers. I assume Walkers will not have any interest in waiting to Turn 8 to try and drop Gideon, so Spell Shrivel is a hard counter there. Against ramp, it will disrupt their ramping spells and buy me time to set up Walkers. I chose 4 Spell Shrivels vs. an earlier version with 2x Broken Concentration (which I was able to get to work at Madness with Jace's ability once or twice in testing) because I needed the turn 3 consistency vs. aggro decks (expected more than 3). 2x Scatter to the Wind was an auto include. Horribly Awry hits way more than just aggro, from flip walkers to Sylvan Advocates to UR Prowess bodies. Finally, my counter is Confirm Suspicions, which is a blowout card. It makes sitting around, doing nothing, popping clues, completely backbreaking.

I am essentially creatureless control. I run 2, one being Jace the flipper and Avacyn, which is flash, but I want to be untapped all day every day for counters. So I couldn't run Read the Bones or Bitter Revelation. I considered Artificer's Epiphany for card draw, but even discarding lands seemed bad. I need to get very high on lands very quick, so I wanted the card that drew unconditionally at instant speed. Comparative Analysis has been great for me, surging at 5 mana following a Horribly Awry or at 6 following another counter. Just the fear of open mana has gotten me cards on turn 4.

I have limited win cons, but they all draw and the decks draws fast. It just smothers people with card advantage. Walkers and Avacyn and time.

Finally, my mana base was designed to get me counters turned on, consistently, ASAP. That's why it skews blue. I have two swamps to let me make sure I can always get a 2nd one down from Evolving Wilds for Languish. The only cards that can be a trick to get early are Grasp of Darkness and Celestial Flare, which would be much more of a problem in a more aggressive field.

Basically, the field played out a whole lot like I dreamed it would, better even, and I think the deck is really dangerous vs. the current field.

Creature~Less Esper Control is great, and the current field is definitely a wet dream for fellow Esper Mages.

I just copy pastad CGB's Esper control list, swapped out his weird, mill, and very narrow artifact hate. I also fiddled around with the mana, after playing with the eventual build I settled on, but it does sound as if our playtesting results were different. I've found my most consistent win-cons have been repeated damage, via man-lands, Giddeon, and Avacyn.

90% of the time, the win is from Gideon or Sorin for me. Avacyn doesn't always stick around too long. I think I have as many wins with flip Jace's mill as I do with Avacyn.

That said, the win rate so far has been very very good, which is encouraging. All that matters is the win, right?

And I still don't know who CGB is.
