Here's something for Butt and Cyclone to chew on.
Chumley is an old friend and the one btw that got me into MTG.
His band is Fat Tramp Food Stamp and it is the sole example of Doomgrass I know of.
Check out the Facebook page as the band is still evolving and there are only a couple of videos and they represent a lineup that doesn't exist anymore other than Mike.

The bottom three song represent an earlier time in the bands maturity. Shallow Grave is more representative of the band today it just doesn't have any of Mike's signature growl.
I played Mandolin briefly to help them make the transition before going into the studio and then time constraints called me away from the band.

Sorry to disagree ol Cyclone boy. Metal is full of melody.
I say this as not that big a fan of most hardcore music.

Edit: What the hell. Here's a couple of videos although the lineup, like I said, changed completely since these other than Mike.
It is his brainchild anyway.

Music is perfectly rational.

How can you even pretend to say that music is not only perfectly objective but that you yourself are an arbiter of good music just lol

The entire notion of pure objective measurement of a creative medium is so mindbogglingly stupid I can't even begin to argue against it.

Devilwuster: Doomgrass... this is pretty neat stuff, thank you for showing me this. Do you like doom metal? I know some doom metal that is melodic as **** and utterly soul-crushing. Check out the bands Warning, and 40 Watt Sun. Both are the brainchild of the same man, but you will be thankful you heard them.

Baxer: I quite like Dimmu Borgir's first three albums, they're actually black metal classics IMO. The later albums, not so much, I'm not big on the pseudo-industrial symphonic sound of the later albums.

Y'all should check out the band Thy Light, in particular the album Suici.De.Pression. True melancholic art. Ice cold depression.

So I want to know why you consider those merits.
The Butt wrote:
For one thing, its not rhythmless,
Tell that to the drummers. And the guitarists.

and secondly, depressive BM is actually quite melodic under the distortion.
And I'm a very good singer once you get past the fact that I can't sing.

You need to get banned, you only make **** posts insulting peoples tastes and bait then into flaming you. I'm not even gonna reply to your "points" cause it'd be like trying to teach an 8-year-old warp theory.

You weren't listening to what I was saying. Metal is melodic. Black metal, death metal, thrash metal, metalcore, and other similar subgenres aren't.

Intriguing.

Can't say I care for his voice. Or rather, when he used it and it didn't sound he had recently chugged a nice cup of ground glass, it wasn't bad. Still, interesting to say the least. The harmonica was a very nice touch.

You can't argue against it because it's true. Just as Baby Geniuses an objectively terrible movie, music can be good or bad. Sorry you don't like it, but reality doesn't conform to likes and dislikes.

I'm going to ignore your insults and just point out how you're comparing discussing the merits of a genre to educating someone in a fictitious scientific field.

Baxer: Dying Fetus is pretty slammin' death metal.

Here's an example from the Suici.De.Pression demo I spoke of. Total despondency, total despair. And anyone who says this isn't melodic is an idiot.

Absolutely drunkenly absurd avant garde synth-guitar textures.

No. I'm not going to argue on this because 1) you'll never be convinced and 2) no one else needs to be convinced because everyone else on earth understands music is subjective. Write up some music reviews or something if you're really confident in your taste, I'm sure a superhuman with objectively good music taste would be very popular in that role and you could make a lot of money at it. In the meantime I want to go back to talking about the **** terrible music everyone else likes.

music as a science is definitely objective, because rhythm, melody, structure, and all that other music theory stuff can be translated and explained mathematically. But the idea that music as a creative art form can be boiled down to rational objective terms like good or bad is ridiculous, because not everyone has the same tastes. it's just like food, sure, i love spicy food, and so do a lot of other people, but for people with sensitive palates spicy food is disgusting and hard to eat.
