White does not impress. Moorland Drifter, Puncturing Light, Dauntless Cathar seem like the top 3.

Blue seem OK, Sleep Paralysis is expensive but solid, Prowess drakes are good, the 3/3 flash flier seems pretty strong in this format.

Black seems decent, Dead Weight I think will be the best way to get an enchantment in the yard, Crow of Dark Tidings looks strong, and murderous compulsion is pretty good if you aren't totally aggro.

Red has Fiery Temper which might be the best common, Reduce to Ashes is probably fine, but I am not sure if Howl pack wolf is better than than the big werewolf.

Green - best common is clearly Rabid bite, after that the creatures all seem fine, nothing fancy. Probably Solitary Hunter, followed by a 2 drop. Quilled Wolf.

After playing a bit, Angelic Purge seems very good. For starters, it's the only common catch-all removal at least comparable to Oblivion Strike and Isolation Zone. RW aggro usually has lands to throw away, BW has Zombie tokens galore, and UW has Clues. And you don't want to use your premium removal too soon anyway, so you should be able to afford to play at least one, maybe two of these with no appreciable drawback.

I was very impressed by Cathar's Companion. Any kind of combat trick makes it not die in combat, and if the trick also makes your other attacker/blocker live through combat and kill the opposing creature, you get a nice two-for-one. Sure, you need to be the aggressor, and keep them tapped out on the defensive to get the most out of it, but it is something to consider.

In blue, I was pleasantly surprised by Stitched Mangler. Creature not untapping can be huge in helping to stabilize the board. I only played against blue, and the rest seems quite weak, with the exception of Sleep Paralysis and maybe Nibilis of Dusk, if you plan to be the aggressor.

Not played black either, but it does look solid. Ghoulcaller's Apprentice is another very solid common, in addition to Weight and Crow, probably also Throttle. Very solid all round.

In my draft, I tried for RW aggro, and Howlpack Wolf was very good. As was Voldaren Duelist. That is one of the best ways to keep up the pressure, three hasty power plus falter on their best blocker. Burn, of course, is great as ever.

No opinion on green so far.

I guess Angel Purge could be pretty solid; when you really need to kill something you can sac a land or clue, and early in the game probably the threat is not bad.

I have been toying with sealed pools and they (aside from one nut UW spirit pool) all seem very weak. There are very few bombs and the removal is mediocre.

Just The Wind is beautiful artistically.
Insolent Noble is so going to get put in his place next set.

... I have nothing of actual import to say.

White: Angelic Purge, Dauntless Cathar, Strength of Arms would be my top three. Puncturing Light and Stern Constable seem good but I havent studied the set much.

Blue: Stormrider Spirit, Just the Wind, Pieces of the Puzzle. Then probably Nibilis of the Wind and Ghostly Wings,

Black: Murderous Compulsion, Throttle, Ghoulcaller's Accomplice, Twins of Maurer Estate, Vessle of Malignity

Red: Fiery Temper, Reduce to Ashes, Tormenting Voice, Uncaged Fury, Insolent Neonate. I like a lot of the red cards.

Green: Rabid Bite, Quilled Wolf, Solitary Hunter, Byway Courier

And now to look at everyone elses picks...

Well, outside of green and removal I seem off.

So are you all saying Dead Weight because of Delerium and Macabre Waltz because of Madness? Because generally those wouldn't even come close to the top three let alone top 5.

I don't think Delerium is enough to push Dead Weight up unless you already snagged a few key cards for the archetype (or one solid Delerium bomb in color.)

As for Waltz...I've always like it as a last card and Madness adds to my interest in it, but I still don't think its high on the list unless you are in a Madness archetype.

LSV had Dead Weight as the #1 black common in Innistrad Limited.

http://www.channelfireball.com/articles ... iew-black/

Delirium only makes an already solid limited card better.

His SoI Limited Set Review for Black drops tomorrow, but I'd be shocked if Dead Weight is outside his top 3 black commons.

Yeah, Dead Weight is roughly shock, a fine common.

From my cockatricing this week, Quilled Wolf and Kessig Dire Swine were both pretty solid. 6/6 wins almost every combat..

Dead Weight is just a solid limited card. It answers early aggro in control decks, gets rid of annoying flyers that chip at your life total, and in a pinch, it can even shrink big creatures to allow smaller ones to block them profitably. It's almost never a dead draw, and that's exactly why it's great.

And the LSV review is in, and Dead Weight is, once again, his #1 black common in limited.

There are 4 1 power cmc 1 creatures in white at common/uncommon. Plus 1 common and uncommon in red. Those cards are generally terrible but I wonder if there isn't a super low curve deck with equipment and the +2/+1 for 3.

cough cough Ahem . He who makes the pretty new set common viewer ranker. its right under Evan Erwin and Nelson set review , LR's review. and somewhere around the Mana Leek's reviews yet, above Bestiare, TCG articles on Sources i like to source for Pre-release.
