Ok guys, with the update looming it's time to start planning the next tournament and get a list of participants. In order to do that, we have to ask an important question - What is the purpose of the Hakumite?

Well that's an easy one - Content Creation.

That's the bar that's going to decide who plays in the upcoming tournament. Sorry Barney, if you want to repeat as Champ then you're going to have to man-up and get going with Twitch. Xboners don't have an excuse not to do it. I understand that some people may not like the idea of using a facecam or providing commentary, but those things are not required. All you have to do is stream the games so people can hang out in the chat room and watch.

Last tourney, I uploaded all my games to YouTube rather than stream them (and some other people did the same) but this time around I'll be doing both and I expect everybody else to do the same. Twitch is a must this time around, no exceptions. With this in place we don't have to worry about disconnects or any other nonsense because there will be video evidence of everything. It will also let people use multi-Twitch to watch both sides of a match simultaneously, because obviously that's way more fun from the viewer's standpoint.

If you want in on this tournament, I want a link to your Twitch page and I want to see some Magic Duels VODs there so I know you're going to take this seriously.

Obviously I will be playing, and the following people are going to be grandfathered in either because they're good friends of mine or because they are quality content creators (or both):

mobius
CGB
Megabeast
Gemini
Peepy
Mackey

I haven't contacted all these people but I'm holding slots for them until they either confirm or deny their participation.

One last thing - the Hakumite is all about content, but going forward it will also be about exploring and shaping the metagame after each expansion. To that end, the tournament commences on Friday, April 15th. Who's with me?

Did Nighthawk or somebody post a "Twitch for dummies" video or something? If Twitch is easy enough to pull off, I'd be happy to play in it. I don't need a computer or anything, right? I just do it right from the xbox?

What do you mean by "going forward it will also be about exploring and shaping the metagame"?

Any idea on the prize pool?

@DJ, It's not me who lets you play. It's you who lets you play. I just need to see the commitment to broadcast your matches.

@Barney, broadcasting is native to Xbox One and it's super-easy. We should party up sometime and chat about it. No idea about overall prizes this time around, but my $50 is always going to be there. We're starting only nine days after the expansion, so it will be an unknown meta that we get to explore.

It's easy. I've done it, and I'm happy to broadcast my matches. Commentary, on the other hand, doesn't seem likely. :-P

Twitch is the only requirement. Show me that you're willing to do it and you're in.

If you read the OP, facecam and commentary are not required. Just the broadcast.

Hakeem, ok yeah if you want to walk me though that sometime, I'd love to figure it out and do it. Would be well worth it.

Also, if you're ponying up CA$50 into the pool, I'd be happy to match that.

edit: oops, I should stipulate that I'm assuming there's no sideboarding in this tournament. If there is, I prolly won't play in it.

Nope, you just need the Twitch app for your Xbox and you can log into your account there.

I'm not sure if it's different on Xbox or not, but here's the vid to at least get a watchable stream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5ocfphZKQY

I did forget a couple of important things in it though, you need to have the "archive broadcast" option selected and the bitrate needs to be bumped up from 1000 to about 2500-3000.

Looking forward to watching this, but if nobody brings a tainted remedy/Triskaidekaphobia deck i'll be disappointed :p

I would like to confirm my interest!

There should also be a poll on sideboarding. Since this is a new format I think players would like a bit of reassurance with every match up. If viewers would like to know what default decks to bring into the random lobby they could just check the decklist tab in the tournament section and ignore the sideboard. I know you wanted sideboarding originally but was convinced to change your mind, lets see if people want it this time.

I also frown at the idea of people losing their $50. My opinion on the matter is that there should be some sort of paypal donate option for the community to donate $1-$10 contributions. I think the prize pool would be alot larger that way and prize would be more evenly distributed. Just my 2 cents...

My Twitch channel is in my signature.

And I'm down with or without sideboards, but I'd probably prefer with sideboards, so long as the Decklists are public, making it easier to be prepared in advance.

My thought on sideboarding for you guys...take it for what it is worth since I am a Steamer (won't pay to do the XBone thing).

Everyone will know everyone's decklists ahead of time, and who you are playing. So, if you go the sideboarding route...

Create one baseline deck, the one you take into the first match of every game.

Then, copy it and adjust it, based off of your previously stated sideboard, and prior to your game that week, make a sideboarded deck for that opponent you have coming up. Hell, make 2 or 3, who cares, as long has it has the same number of the same cards within the main and sideboard. That takes care of people having to wait for the players to sideboard. Then, be careful to pick the correct decks and play.

That would be the way I would do it.

Hakeem, good on you bro for jumping on this. Makes me wish (briefly) I was an XBoner. Fortunately, I have Nighthawk who, while not rooting for me (you foul, bloody limey, you), but he is putting on one hell of a Showdown.

@ Megabeast...nice to see you back.

No sideboarding, this is about the content and boarding slows it down. That was the argument against it last time and it still stands.

I'm not the engine behind this post, I'm just the face of it. There's a lot of behind-the-scenes work going on that I'm gracious for. The whole "tournament for content" idea was mine initially, but it would never have succeeded without the help of my friends.

True, I understand that, bro. But as the face and driving force, thanks.

And thanks to your hamsters that push the wheels. You can give them a carrot from me as well.
