It's my way of challenging both you and I so that we can share knowledge, experience and understanding and further both our drafting skills. These forum draft have no value if there is no discussion on the picks and everyone agrees without explanations.

In almost every limited format, I would pick a 4 powered 4 drop over a 2 powered 3 drop. So what's wrong with Borderland Minotaur and what makes Fellhide Minotaur decent in this format?

Don't get me wrong, I agree that fellhide minotaur is the pick here, but this is due to my experience that borderland somehow doesn't live up to my expectations while fellhide has more value than a 2/3 for 3 usually would have. I still can't quite figure why though. Or maybe I just systematically under value 2/3s for 3.

If this had been my first Theros draft, I would have picked bordeland, so I think there's discussion to be had here.

It's jank because it trades down, is harder to cast, and is in a very weak, if not the weakest, color. I only draft them if I need to fill my four-drop spot, or if I'm playing Minotaurs.dec.

Fellhide is fine as a 2/3 for CMC 3, which is about what I expect to pay for those stats. It's also a black permanent, and is much easier to cast.

I find that red/black decks rely on your opponent not having removal. That said, I LOVE it when I see a red/black Murder-King deck, since it can pick up all kinds of late Portent of Betrayals. I agree with rstnme - the Borderland Minotaur's 3 toughness, lack of evasion, and inability to "go big" put it in an awkward spot. It's got more in common with Dross Crocodile than Ill-Tempered Cyclops in this format.

We want the black minotaur obviously. Although I thank Filobel for his pedantry.

Borderland Minotaur is fine if you have minotaur lords (plural), or red devotion or something. But everyone has better common 4 drops except white. EDIT actually blue's arent' great either.

Fellhide is good because the only other common black 3 drop is Blood Toll Harpy. Which isn't terrible but a little too aggro for most black decks.

Felhide.

I'll defend borderland in principle though -- it's got 4 power for 4 mana. If you're already in red, it's not a bad dude -- beats face well at least. I'm not saying it's a high pick, but you could legitimately MD it.

The red minotaur is pretty janky. I've only ever seen it do work in red/blue and sealed.

Sure wish we had taken that first Fellhide Minotaur, too.

Pick is fellhide minotaur

Yeah, cure is nice. Not the greatest removal, but it's useful early to kill heroic guys before they get big and kill voyaging satyr to stop the ramping.

Cure or Felhide number two? I do think either would be legitimate, but I'd prefer cure, because messin with heroic.

I'd go with Cure. Removal is always nice.

Cure. I have no problem with fellhide minotaur. I have no problem with it in my deck, no problem with it not in my deck, and no problem ever getting more than I need.
