For those who think MTGO would be better with a subscription model... This is probably the closest you'll get, I guess. I think it's already pretty insane and I've never thought they'd do something like that, tho.

I think I'll skip this one because I'm not really into Modern, but if they keep doing it every Pro Tour, and given that next PT will be Standard sans fetches/Rhino/Jace, I'll probably spend a **** of phantom points on these later this year.

Thoughts?

Seems relatively creative for WOTC. Might be interesting.

First thing to make me want to log into Magic Online in awhile. This could be really cool.

Wow. Great idea. This might make me try Constructed. If I wanted to nitpick, I'd be sure to point out that picking up a deck you never played before is going to produce some amusing results and give a possibly skewed view of the metagame based mostly on how skilled the pilot was. But I really like the idea, so I won't do that :)

I wish you could at least choose the classification of deck you'd like to play: aggro, control, etc.

Still, this is probably one of the most innovative things WotC has done in a long time.

It is really unfortunate that this happened right when a deck "broke" the PT. I'm not sure how they are going ot handle this developmentally.

I'm out of touch. Which deck broke the Pro Tour?

Eldrazi. There were 6 Eldrazi decks in the Top 8: 3 Colorless versions with manlands and chalice, 2 U/R versions with basically a bunch of sweet draft picks from BFZ, and Frank Lepore's Processor Eldrazi list with Relic and Blight Herder and Wasteland Strangler.

The other two top 8 decks were Affinity.

Lists for the available decks are up: http://magic.wizards.com/en/MTGO/articles/archive/pro-tour-gauntlet-oath-gatewatch-details-2016-02-09

re: Eldrazi deck, I'd expect Eye of Ugin to get the axe. It's basically an Ancient Tomb (or Mishra's Workshop with Urborg) mixed with a repeatable wincon tutor, and I don't think that's ok with WotC's vision for Modern.

Or maybe not. There are noises about the deck's success being due to the deck being new, and the Chalice which shuts down the removal. I expect they will give it a month to see whether the deck can be beaten, now that everybody knows what they are up against. After all, that Griselbrand deck is still around.

So, I ran into a fun bug. I was randomly assigned the Blue Moon deck and my opponent was on Burn, and in Game 2 they fetched for basic plains and basic forest, despite neither being in the 75. Apparently you can board in all the basic lands you want. So glad I got assigned Blue moon.

I mean, it was the burn matchup and boarded out all my Blood moons because they were too slow anyways. I also still won, but pretty sad. I guess they used the limited queue model as the template for this one.

I hope you reported that one. Yuck.

Oh yeah, I filed for compensation.

My next spin through I got Frank Lepore's Processor Eldrazi, which I find a bit underpowered. I beat burn round 1 (no random basics!), then managed to beat the UR Eldrazi deck by drawing more Dorwners, then lost to the UR Eldrazi deck in the finals because they really should beat me. Game 2 they mulled to 3 I think and still beat me, which was great topdecking by them, but you know, that is Magic.

So I got burn and was thoroughly trashed despite having a good amount of experience with it. (It didn't help that in my first match, my computer froze before I could submit my sideboarding...) It seems like all the decks are heavily metagamed against burn. Did anyone here even lose to burn once?

Not yet, although I think burn has some good match ups, like Lepore Eldrazi and Suicide Zoo. I'm not sure about Infect
