you have to choose, being able to play rogue on curve (which you don't anyways because rogue is only for recovering from sweepers and setting off the combo) or being able to play your 1 drops. yes shrivel is for anti sweeper, or for punishing slow starts from slow decks, frequently I have countered a ramp decks turn 4 play then just swong in for lethal on turn 5

I see your point...but still, 12 U means turn 8 (8!) to have UU at still under 90%...you really don't want to get there many times, I guess

I bet you'll end adding one island more, at least, lol...23 lands sounds better to me, and even so...

Whats wrong with 2 Sigils, it means your one flyer is attacking for double the amount of creatures you have?

But it can mean that you also have half the creatures in the board by then...better to draw another Eldrazi or something. In your deck, with so many cheap creatures, makes more sense.

I like to have more late game than you, you go more agressive...different approaches...I find that crats can't compete in rush with the best out there, I see it more as mid-range, and my build reflects that, I guess :)

Loving the Willbreaker version for the moment, btw...against green/selesnya ramp, is grotesque haha

The point of Sigil is to make more powerful your little creature that can get past the opponent. My deck does need one of the 4 draw engines in play to go longer but if you have just a Whirler Rogue in play and 2 sigils that one thopter is flying over for 5 damage a turn. It also has great synergy with Husk as it makes the Whirler Husk combo swing for 11 damage rather than 8.

Now of course everyone would like to have the Archer>Thrall>Husk>Rouge hands all the time but it doesn't happen so you need to be able to pull out wins other ways. If the opponent doesn't have a blocker for your husk then Lilliana can be a better T4 play than WR because you can sac the Thrall get it back and sac again along with the 2/2 token.

So I've played Babcrats in 5 games and I don't know if its just bad luck today but I think it needs 23 lands. I'm going to cut 1 spell shrivel for 1 island and play it some more. I am liking the deck, I just want to see a little more consistency and I think taking it to 23 lands will do it. I just don't know if spell shrivel is the cut to make.

Semi-final version of the funniest and probably best Crats build I have managed to make:

1 x Jace
1 x Disperse
3 x Eldrazi Skyspawner
3 x Whirler Rogue
2 x Thopter Spy network
2 x Willbreaker
1 x Drowner of Hope

3 x Perilous myr
2 x Pilgrim's eye
2 x Alchemist's vial

1 x Vampiric Rites
2 x Bone Splinters
3 x Carrier Thrall
1 x Liliana, Heretical Healer
2 x Fleshbag Marauder
4 x Nantuko Husk
2 x Smothering Abomination
1 x Ob Nixilis Reignited

7 x Island
7 x Swamp
2 x Sunken Hollow
2 x Rogue's passage
2 x Drowned Catacomb
4 x Dimir Guildgate

Clasic dimir crats, with two twists...one, the Spy Network package, I believe that what crats need to become really good is a constant draw or creature engine...and the Networks are both

And a couple of Willbreakers...it began as a funny adition, and they have become my answer to most of the threats that worry me...with 4 Husks and the bags, splinters, rites etc he becomes fool-proof. Just play him betting he's not gonna survive into your next turn.

The deck has 12 ways to ping for him, most (or even all) on the same turn he hits the board...assorted between lands, artifacs, creatures and walkers ( one Retreat to Coralheim maybe would be nice, have to test...) so removing all of them is difficult...Ulamog usually targets Jace and Willbreaker, or Drowner, for example... not that innocent Vial or the passage...and Dispersing (its main use) Willy to have him next turn steal (and usually sac at will) Ula is beautiful. Pumping your husk with opponent's creatures always is... :P

The deck doesn't revolve too much around him, so if he doesn't appear, it isn't the end of the world...but when he does, it's usually win

Biggest problem? maybe Plated Crusher...u really should reserve your bags for him, in the odd match where you get so late game. Sometimes walkers, but with the Rogues (the 5 of them, lol) you usually can kill them fast

EDIT: final version, the above is funnier but this is clearly better

1 x Vampiric Rites
2 x Bone Splinters

3 x Perilous myr
3 x Carrier Thrall
1 x Disperse
2 x Sigil of Valor

2 x Pilgrim's eye
3 x Eldrazi Skyspawner
1 x Liliana, Heretical Healer
2 x Fleshbag Marauder
4 x Nantuko Husk

2 x Smothering Abomination
3 x Whirler Rogue
2 x Thopter Spy network
2 x Languish

2 x Priest of the Blood Rite
1 x Ob Nixilis Reignited

6 x Island
8 x Swamp
2 x Sunken Hollow
2 x Foundry of the consuls
2 x Drowned Catacomb
4 x Dimir Guildgate

Thank you for the ideas elk!(great name btw!)

After a few duels and some comp stomp, I too agree the Darkslick Drakes will be going bye bye. The mana base cannot consistently support them. My only defense for Tainted Remedy is if i have one to play on turn 3 when my opponent has a Jaddi Offshoot turn one, also once I was able to punish an Ally lifegain bugger. But like you said, them gaining life isn't a huge deal unless I'm beating on them with Graveblade Marauder.

So experiments tonite will include dropping Gravediggers for one or two more Mortuary Mire. And swapping around the drakes for a few possibilities including: Infernal Scarring, Consecrated by Blood, Deadbridge Shaman, Rising Miasma, Tide Drifter and/or Mist Intruder.

If I drop too many creatures I'm afraid Graveblade Marauder may not be as ideal. Only play-testing will tell. And yes lets try Shadows of the Past in place of Tainted Remedy.

After some tweaking and my confidence is high enough i will update my original list.

I like your list, it's fun to play, though I find it a bit inconsistent. Have a positive win rate with it but I seem to get rolled over by RDW and UG elves (though few people play that now) unless I have a really good start. I'm running Mire and 2 Shamans, the mire has been good, the shamans are underwhelming.

I'm thinking of putting in Despoiler for the Shamans. Despoiler would be nice protection for the Abom and the deck is pretty mana light anyway. Thoughts?

Very fun deck, thanks for posting. Went 5-1 this morning so far, the loss to a b/g/r bounce deck which hit radiant flames and jace. Much better than my older version of crats which was just too slow. I don't think I've used the Husk/Rogue combo more than once, deck can win just fine without.

Tried out the pretty cool looking one by Callmemaggitt, with the thopters, but it just didn't work for me. May have been unlucky but even with pretty aggressive mulligans I'd end up with a far too slow hand.

edit - and completed my collection finally! Planar Outburst *2 at last.
edit2 - finished my 10 games at 8-2, second loss to UG elves, had him at 6 life, husk down and rogue in hand, I died with 5 swamps and 1 island in play

Here's a little deck I've put in about 15 games with and it's working way better than I thought when I built it. I thought it would be straight up trash, bc there's a lot of meh cards.. but the damn thing keeps surprising me with wins. It's an Ingest/Process deck in the traditional sense. Most folks are trying to build this archetype by 'avoiding the bad cards' and 'exiling stuff with the good cards' (read: counterspells). I've tried that deck, and I'm not convinced that's the way to go. I'm going with early ingest creatures that can trade/chump + ingest, into a steady curve up into some stronger threats. One card that has surprised me has been Ulamog's Nullifier.. it's actually performed remarkably well.. I kinda want the third one. The payoff of ingesting is Wasteland Strangler, Blight Herder and Ulamog's Nullifier.. all worth it IMO. Casting higher cost creatures is made easier through our somewhat limited scion production.

Card draw is handled through creatures that actually do things.. not draw spells like Read the Bones, Inspiration, Telling Time, etc. Ob Nixilis, Sire of Stagnation, and the much maligned.. Kothophed. We can play Kothophed here bc we're not taking an early beating. There are 32 creatures in this deck.. you WILL have a board. Notably absent is Whirler Rogue.. you could probably squeeze her in if you want.. cutting Breaker of Armies, one Salvage Drone and something else of your choosing. I give you:

Dimir Ingested - 32 creatures, 4 non-creature spells, 24 lands

Curve:
1cmc - 8
2cmc - 4
3cmc - 11
4cmc - 2
5cmc - 3
6cmc - 6
8cmc - 1
10cmc - 1

4 x Salvage Drone
4 x Sludge Crawler

4 x Mist Intruder

4 x Eldrazi Skyspawner
2 x Wasteland Strangler
2 x Dominator Drone
3 x Titan's Presence

2 x Ulamog's Nullifier

2 x Blight Herder
1 x Ob Nixilis Reignited

2 x Drowner of Hope
2 x Kothophed, Soul Hoarder
1 x Sire of Stagnation
1 x Oblivion Sower

1 x Breaker of Armies

1 x Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger

8 x Island
8 x Swamp
2 x Sunken Hollow
2 x Drowned Catacomb
4 x Evolving Wilds

I've played a lot of this deck recently, it's in my top 3 fave decks now, and the only change that stuck for me was -1 Swamp +1 Island. I was running into situations where I'd only have one Island on turn 4-7 and be unable to rogue, seems to run smoother now.

Been considering removing Spell Shrivel since I use all my mana frequently, but when I have used the spell it has been clutch. Not sure what I'd even replace it with anyway, Miscreant might work and give more flexibility at 1 mana but it seems a bit underwhelming.

Spoiler

I find amusing that you are playing salvage drone,a card considered beyond terrible even in limited deck dedicated to ingesting and aren't running benthic infiltrator, generally considered the best common ingester.
Especially since your 8-10 drops would make me wary of discarding lands to the drone.

Lol, suit yourself of course, the cards aren't mine :V if anything I feel flattered...have fun, mate

And the version without Willbreakers/passages and Priests/foundries instead is probably a bit more consistent, if less funny

Btw, the couple Languish can go there too, now that tribes are back they are somewhat needed...and go well with husks...maybe in exchange for the Rites and the Drowner? I dunno...

Hello World: Bc that would give me like 17 3 drops..

I ended up deleting that deck.. for the same reason I end up deleting every other Dimir deck. They get run over by powerful Enchantments.

Hmmm which powerful enchantments beat Dimir? I mean I guess a lack of enchant removal is a weak spot, but 'get run over by' seems a bit strong to me.

Normally I'd agree, but I think this is a bit of an unfair statement. Dimir is a tap out deck - since almost every reason to run Black at this time is at sorcery speed. You aren't normally going to be holding counter magic mana up. The enchantment concern is real, because your t3 you should be playing husk, not holding up three mana to possibly counter a threat. Against ramp I might consider holding counter mana on their t4, but not against decks other than ramp, IMO. So if there is actually an enchantment powerful enough to beat crats or similar, then it's a real concern.

What do you do when someone has Retreat to Kazandu, Zendikar's Roil, then plays Nissa's Renewal, and you're not running Nantuko Husk + Whirler Rogue? How do you win? Nothing in the color combo really does big damage except maybe Disciple of the Ring, Husk+Rogue, maybe Kothophed.

I just can't imagine playing Dimir without both Husk and Rogue, which means I'm probably a t6 killer under normal circumstances. I guess if I wasn't running them I'd lose to roil or kazandu. Not sure. Not likely to find out tbh.

I guess full control with counters, disciple, etc... But then I'd have to go with what Babs said... I'd be holding counter mana up by t5 for sure, and I'd have no reason to play any permanents until the game was way under control.

An early From Beyond/Emeria can be problematic, yep. Or a Gideon+weenies. Or a well placed surprise Fog. Or Celestial Flare etc etc...all decks have their weakness, but being weak to enchantments is probably the less problematic...I mean, how many good enchantments we have? 5? 6? Pea, Emeria, From Beyond, Spy Network...and then what? Kazandu? Roils? Shadows? Rites? Valor in Akros??? :V
