DJ, you can't play in a tournament for $100 cash prize when you've seen all the deck lists! lol

Bah, those lists wouldn't have made a difference to me. Mono Red Wins all the way boys... all the way. Your slow boring decks will fold as easily as I fold a dinner napkin. (JK - we all know I'd play Sultai Crats) - Speaking of Which - Beast, play my Aristocrats list. You won't be disappointed.

our resident Timmy isn't considering Ramp? :o

not even midrange?

Timmy should I call the doctor?

It's just so slow and dies to aggressive starts if it doesn't hit a sweeper. It's also bad vs counter spells except Gaea.. and you can bet your bottom dollar Covert and Gemini are gonna play counter decks after the ego massage those two gave each other over that Esper list.

A slight breeze came and blow off my clothes...and now I feel nakey and exposed.

But on some serious ish...Naya Landfall w/o Ulamog, Esper Control w/o Tutelage, and Mono R Goblins are all on the table. I might just pick 1 of them randomly. We still have time.

It looks weak vs Planeswalkers.

I just have this creeping feeling that almost everyone will be playing some 5-color control/ramp hybrid with 8 sweepers, enchantment hate, and Ulamog and call it a day. Judging from DJ's tone of voice quite a few of the submitted decks so far have been "slow"; as evident of his claim to smash the competition with a fast R deck.

I want to be very clear about this - I was 100% joking. I have barely looked at the provided lists - only counting the cards to make sure they are all at least 60 card decks. I know virtually nothing about the tournament to come, and I'm certainly not spoiling, nor going to spoil anything here. Definitely do not take anything I say in jest as an indication as to what the META will be.

(Just want to make sure we are all clear on this, because I do not want to influence anyone's decisions - and btw, I've made it a point not to look too deep at the decks, because I really want to make sure I don't accidentally tip anyone off. I will delve into them, when everyone else does tonight, after they are posted.)

Gemini, I think those would be exclusively the types of decks we'd see if there was sideboarding but I'm hoping/thinking we'll see a variety in this one.

I like that DJ is like Alan Greenspan and anything he says gets wildly misinterpreted.

DJ, sorry for misinterpreting. Though I cannot avoid the fact that there are plenty of Timmies around who love Ulamog and fat Woodland Wanderers.

Yeah...the last tournament I saw during Duels 2015 I saw tons of 5-color control decks. It just haunts my dreams is all.

No worries, I just didn't want you to think I knew much more than I do - which is very little.

I made a last-minute audible, and it will probably be bad, because I didn't get to test it as much as I would have liked too. Still should be fun, and hopefully a different thing than people would expect.

I just got an email from someone by the name of Karol and s/he has put up a $40 donation to go towards the prize pool. Thank you very much Karol!

Just to clarify, though, I will not be accepting any money from anyone because this is not gambling in any way and frankly the thought of it makes me feel a little uncomfortable. What will happen is that once the winner has been declared, I will put them in touch with the prize donors individually and they will collect the pieces of the pot as individual "gifts".

Now that the prize pool exceeds $100, I think a second-place prize is in order. Thoughts?

You can do 1 of 2 things here.

Winner gets $100 which is basically 1-year Xbox live and 1 free game. 2nd place winner gets the $40 donation. This option would make it more competitive.

OR...

Tally up the wins and losses for everyone in the tournament and divide the money up based on the number of wins. A win should be worth X amount of $$$ and you tally them up. This would lessen cheating and make it a more casual tournament.

We're going super competitive here, prizes for the finalists only at this point. If for some reason the prize pool swells we could give small prizes to the rest of the top-8 but that would have to be a hefty pool to go that far.

Top two should be paid. 100 and 40. It's not gambling because no one is risking money. You can handle disbursements, it's not a problem. It's going to be awkward for players to contact non-organizers to get their prize.

Much thanks to Karol for the generous donation! Wow
