In order for us to play Prop Hunt, we would:

- both have to spend $30 on the game
- both have to figure out how to get prop hunt properly working
- one of us (probably you) would have to get a server running properly
- have to pray that there are no latency issues at the end of all that

It seems like more risk and effort than it's worth, especially since we A) aren't guaranteed to get it working (after looking at the process) and B) aren't guaranteed to like it.

Oh wow I didn't realize it was $30. I thought it was more like $15. But I don't even have that great an internet speed. A quick Ookla speed test tells me I have about 1.4 Mbps download speed but 0.2 Mbps upload speed. I don't even think I'd be able to host properly.

Team fortress 2 has prop hunt on dedicated servers and is free. Just thought that was a valuable nugget of info.

I need to put some quick words together for Foiled (a free two-player game offered on itch.io here), because it's really good for being a free game.

1. TF2 was not free from its inception. It was sold for a price for at least 4 years so wikipedia tells me (I am not sure the exact timeframe).

2. Those are both competitive team-based online multiplayer games, and personally I consider them roughly equal because of this. Foiled is a local 2-player fighting game.

3. Both those are free through Valve, which already get large amounts of money through them being the #1 digital games distributer, and both games contain a storefront for buying a variety of cosmetics which also rakes in a lot of cash for those games in particular. Foiled is a small indie game made by 2 people and is offered in its entirety for no money.

I think I need to word things better.

I don't think being "good for a free game" means that you should automatically go out and play it instead of something you have paid for or something else you can pay for. I use DOTA2, something you would have to pay me to play, at a rate matching or exceeding a salary one could expect in my current field, as an example.

I just decided that I am going to figure out, and then post, my backlog as the first thing I do after finals are over.

.... Assuming I have the physical courage required.

Fair enough. Put into perspective, I realize my own short post about Foiled wasn't worded well either. My general mindset for "free game" is some small indie game, like from a Ludum Dare or Game Jam, or a non-mod fan game like... well, FNAF-B comes to mind. I mentally differentiate between F2P games and those kinds of games, and just kind of assumed everyone would know what I'm talking about.

So to sum up, I am an ass, and the ump will shun me. ( :cookie: if you get the reference)

I really do think that both Foiled and Regular Human Basketball are offering something rather nice if not entirely unique (the fencing thing is likely better done in Nidhogg and the multiplayer ship control is also offered in Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, though I've played neither), and their completely free price tag is enticing because of that.

Turn's out I l was wrong about the first thing I would do after finals. Instead, I played Hearthstone until I got mad and quit, then I played Fallout 4 for the first time ever. Until I got mad and quit. Now I'm playing Tales of Zestiria for the first time ever.

Totally worth it.

My initial impressons of Fallout 4... um I **** up so bad I mulliganed with more foreknowledge.

The second time around, I went with 3 Str, 4 Perception, 5 Endurance, 6 Charisma, 6 Intelligence, 3 Agility, and 3 Luck. All of these were so that I could pick specific perks I really wanted after playing through the game the first time, or at least have access to them. The cutoffs for me were armor mods, lockpicking, aquaboy, local leader, science, sneaking, and bloody mess respectively. These were all important skills I really wanted at least the option to pick once I was a few hours into the game, although local leader and science were "in the future" things.

Walkthrough of second area (after which my expertise ends):

Spoiler

Speaking of, radiation storm creepiest thing ever AND deadly acid rain. Other than that, I'm having MUCH more fun now that I know what I'm doing.

So I've been playing Fallout 4 a lot (I think I played like 8 hours yesterday). Can't do more till tonight, but here is what I learned very quickly about skills after that time:

Most level-up perks are useless or too complicated early on.

Lockpicking (4 P), Hacking (4 I), Bloody Mess (3 L), Black Widow (2 C if you are a girl), Sneak (3 in A) and a few other perks seem to be universally useful reguardless of what build you are creating. In fact, everything but endurance has something at 3 or 4 that you might at least want the option to invest in early. At the same time, Endurance 5 amd Agility 5 are the only ones I might ever consider investing in early on past 4, until we get to some of the perks at 8 like Grim Reaper's Sprint at Luck 8. It seems that most of the "high level" skills unlocked at higher stat points are very situational and not something you would even need to use early on in the game, while at the same time a large number of things at 2 (exception is Charisma) are not very useful at all unless you have a very specific build in mind (usually first time you won't) or you are a girl and want to take the second point in Charisma.

^ Thus, there seems to be two very viable builds for a first playthrough. The first is putting 4 points in Perception and Intelligence for Lockpicking and Hacking respectively, and then 3 points in everything else. (The game gives you the first point in everything 3, so I'm saying put them at 4 and 3, not 5 and 4). That leaves the player with 5 points left over, which can be invested in whatever is desired.

The other build seems to be to put a TON of points in 2 stats. For example, 10 Perception (Concentrated Fire), 5 Agility (Action Boy/Girl), and 8 Luck (Grim Reaper's Sprint) is a highly specialized but potentially very powerful build. But everything else is going to be almost useless because you'll have 4 stats at 1.

^^ A couple other things to note.

1) You get the perception bobblehead in Concord, a story location you visit early on, and this is something you would have to be not paying attention to miss since it's a room you HAVE to go in and talk to people in for the main story. This gives you an extra point in P, so if your goal is to have 5 or 6 P but you don't want to take the 5th or 6th level perk in your first few levels (never recommended), then you can be missing one point for a couple of hours and put it somewhere else.

2) Similarly, you can find a skillbook in your baby's room under the dresser that gives you a free point in any of the 7 you want, so you can get that really early (literally the first town you should go to) in the game and you WILL NOT really ever level up without getting it first, unless you don't get it when it's available. This is particularly valuable for getting Charisma for 2 for Black Widow if you want to take a build like the one above that needs all your points.

3) Some of the 1 and 2 level perks give you specialized damage bonuses. These are less valuable than Bloody Mess (luck 3) which is a flat 5% damage bonus and Black Widow (Charisma 2 if a girl) that gives a 5% damage bonus against male enemies (and better charisma checks while talking to men), which should be taken first if available.

4) Lady Killer, the male equivalent of Black Widow, is almost, but not completely, useless.

Should I count those as your review of FO4? Or should I include a new category in one of my hidden posts for walkthroughs?

--------

Some quick thoughts on some multiplayer games I played with some friends over the last few days:

Speedrunners: This game has some of the greatest level design I've ever seen. Foreground is extremely distinct from background, and the special walls are easily distinguished at a glance (walls that can be wall-jumped off of [you can only wall-jump off these special walls] and ceilings that can be grappled to [one button is for an upward grapple]). Both of these are rather important considering the speed which the game runs and twitch control you need to keep going. I am also extremely fond of the drop-in/drop-out nature of the game; local games always have 4 players defaulted to AI control and any player input automatically switches that player slot to human control, and except for a few hiccups players can just drop the controller and it switches their character back to AI control. The game itself is almost right up my alley: a platformer with rapid-pace, quick and hectic rounds in the same kind of vein as Duck Game and a nice sense of humour that's mostly filled with puns.

Divekick: An uber-simplification of fighting games, I personally think it went just a little too far with it. The only controls are to jump and attack, and although the actual abilities of fighters are much greater than that,I still find the game a little overly simplistic to get any real fun out of it. Plus, I mean, it's a fighting game, and I generally dislike fighting games.

Nidhogg: I had thought I would like the game before I actually played it. The game isn't actually as responsive as I'd like it to be, which is purely down to the controls. You have three levels you can hold your sword -- high, medium, and low -- and to switch between them you press up or down. You can also throw your sword, by holding up and pressing the stab button. The problem is, to change the levels each requires a distinct button press, and you also can't throw your sword unless you're already holding your sword in the highest position. What that means is that if you're trying to throw your sword you might just end up standing in place jabbing the air over and over again because you're not in that highest position yet. This game also suffers from the problem some games have that the easiest way to win is rather removed from how the game "should be played" -- while it's a sort-of fighting game that should place an emphasis on skillfull swordplay, with stabs, disarms, sword throws, leg sweeps, and dive kicks, the easiest way for a player to win is actually to avoid their opponent entirely, because as soon as they reach the far end of their screen, they win.

I don't know. You could just have a category for Jack posts things very few people will read and call it a day.

Speaking of, the following is an example why Markiplier is particularly entertaining when he plays games with Bob:

I'm kind of unsure about including such things in the table of contents because even of the posts of mine that I talk about games, I only want to link posts that I concepted as a review/critique/whatever to begin with. I mean, if I did otherwise the table of contents would get cluttered pretty quickly.

Speaking of Markiplier, I watched his videos on One Night at Flumpty's, and in watching that I felt that the sequel (One Night at Flumpty's 2) was more mechanically balanced and interesting than most of the FNAF games, with the exposure meter and everything.

So it turns out that Bloatfly Meat can be baked into a radiation resistance item. Who knew? Um..... still not going to bother with it.

No um.....

in the civic access, after the mirelurk attacks you, and after killing all the mole rats, and after killing all the radroaches, i was able to find the taboo tattoo magazine on the ground near the green steamer trunk, but I was not able to find the fusion core. "Near the green steamer trunk" and the name of the magazine is enough to tell you where it is, while the other thing is something I could not find.

-------------------

I would not put it in the Table of contents.

You ever go on a 4 hour detour where **** goes down, get completely lost, and consider it all a net gain? Feels great.

There will be no review on Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, because the game just won't play. I had, some time ago, actually played a bit of it, but it would crash whenever it tried to load a second level after completing one, even if it was the same level I just completed. Now I've upgraded to Windows 10 and it just won't load a level at all without crashing.

Also, after jumping though a couple of stupid hoops to download the game and get it running, Shadow Complex ended up running like a paraplegic monkey. It was free, but I either can't play it on my computer or it just runs poorly in general.

Also also, I started up The Wolf Among Us again last night and it got me ready to finish the review I never finished on it a while back. Hopefully I can finish that soon.
