It only gets worst too. Some of the more recent pages are kinda 'probably on a list somewhere for reading this comic'-ish. Good comic though.

I just realized that AzureShade talked about it on the very first page of this thread, which means I've either had a tab open since that time or I've ignored it for far too long.

One thing I am loving about Unsounded is how some pages break out of the pages and into the background. Early on in chapter 2 there's that scene where the girl dies and it's like everything is on fire (which I think is metaphorical? Or an allusion to their religious beliefs?) and the background catches on fire for a while and then is ashes for most of the rest of the chapter. It's great use of the medium that couldn't be done in quite the same way with a physical comic.

Ever remember a favourite completed comic, go back to look at one specific part of it, and then get sucked in all over again and read the entire thing in one sitting? Yeah, that just happened to me.

Most of a decade before Homestuck tested the boundaries of what a "comic" could be, and even longer before Wreck-It Ralph dove into the world of classic videogames, Kid Radd was doing both, incorporating animation and even a limited amount of music and interactivity into the classic sprite comic format and diving deep into what exactly it means to be a videogame character. When the game ends...what do you do? And more importantly, who do you become?

It starts off slowly, but it ends up being so worth it. Every time I go back I end up reading way more of it than I planned.

Cucumber Quest!
The Plot
Cucumber Quest is the story of a young rabbit person named Cucumber, who is reluctantly dragged into a quest to save the world of Dreamside. Also it is the story of Cucumber's more competent little sister doing that same thing. Also I guess the story of some other people you can look up on the character page.
Can our ragtag band of heroes stop the villains from gathering the Disaster Stones and summoning the dreaded Nightmare Knight? No; they really can't. Well, they can always get the princesses of every kingdom to sign the Dream Sword, right? Eh... we'll see.


Reasons you should read it:
The art is stunning. I would describe it, but I'll just let you look in the spoiler tabs instead. So pretty.
It is hilarious. An affectionate parody of the kid-friendly save the world from evil fantasy story, that hits every note.
Sometimes it is touching. Deep characterisation and original concepts abound. I'm not going to spoil anything specifics. Just touch me.

Reasons you shouldn't read it:
Because you're an idiot I guess.

Well, The Vapors on http://www.saintcomix.com is a weird black-and-white webcomic with not much dialogue and nothing yet in the way of story other than two highly unlikable gamers which may or may not have powers related to their fantasies. So far it seems like a perfectly ordinary world with characters I don't like at all that have weird fantasies.

I haven't read Lackadaisy (though it's been on my list of things I'll never get to) but I think it's come up.
Black Brick Road I don't think has come up. Nor Blindsprings. Emily Caroll's comics might have come up but are always worth mentioning.

I feel really bad because I'd like to really recommend Lackadaisy but I only read like... 2 or 3 chapters several years ago? It's kinda like my position on ARTD or SSSS in that I know they must be fantastic but I still haven't gotten into either/any.

I've just recently been told about the webcomic Zoophobia. It's made by the same girl who did these videos:





The style is very much the same, so watch those to see if you like her style. The story is basically "normal human woman gets tricked into living in a world with furry characters", in short. The cast includes talking animals like a giant cheetah, human-looking animal shapeshifters like a pair of parrot-people, spirits like giant peace koi, demons like the son of Satan (and Satan himself), vampires, and a host of anthropomorphic creatures. The setting is, so far, mostly just high school drama, but I've been entertained enough by it to keep reading, especially with the art style. So far I haven't seen it do anything interesting with either the comic or webcomic medium, but I'm only three chapters in and I have no idea how many chapters there are. The one thing that has bugged me is a major than/then mistake in the dialogue.

Unrelatedly, I reached the (current) end of Unsounded. Good god that comic brought me to the edge of tears more than once, and I just blew through the last two chapters when I had intended to stop reading and do something that day.

You should read Dr.McNinja because it is about a doctor who is also a ninja, and because he kills a vampire by throwing the pope at him.

Spinerette, which started as a quirky superhero comic and then just turned into the laziest lesbians lesbians lesbians relationship story. The conflicts aren't even interesting and after a while, I started rooting for the megalomaniacal villain, who is disgustingly, probably doing more heroing than the heros who are just non-stop making googly eyes at each other.

I would say the updating pattern drove me away more than anything. Continual updates that aren't updates, while I understand may be to pass along information the artist thought was useful to the fans, just ends up being irritating. Plus, I felt like there was a constant issue with expected quality.

I've read some of it, but I don't even remember getting so far into Spinerette that I noticed the lesbianism becoming any sort of issue. I stopped reading because the author/artist/whomever had no sense of comic books as a medium. Far, far, far, FAR too often the transition from one panel to the next made no damn sense and the same with pages. There was no real coherent story being told, IMO.

The Canadian superhero team was pretty lame, and actually a little insulting. Mostly lame.

I mean, I was absolutely fascinated by act 2 beginning as events started to spiral out of control, but before, only moments like this kept me going.
