The whispers were soft at first, but slowly they grew, until they became a din in every tavern and shop. The signs were growing dire, and even as the priests tried to placate the people, their fears rose and their hearts sank. Avacyn had disappeared, and the light of her church was dimming in her absence. The protector of mankind was nowhere to be found, and even her angelic servants could not reassure the masses.
Still, it wasn't until the murders began that the people began weeping openly in the streets. It was a boy that was first discovered, a young thing frozen in eternal fear. His father was discovered the next dawn, butchered like a deer stalked by wolves. Then, a few more people turned up dead, and then a few more, and finally, even the priests could not deny what was happening. Thraben had been infiltrated by enemies, the monsters of the night come to roost in the holiest city in all of Avacyn's reach.
Now, the night is an even darker time for the men and women of Thraben. Their foes are organized, and no one trusts their neighbors anymore. Brother suspects brother, and mother is suspicious of daughter. The shadows have faces, but no one can see them. Desperation turned grim, and now, there is only one solution - actively hunt those who are lurking in the community, find the wolves amidst the sheep, and put them to death.
May Avacyn have mercy on her children...
THE RULES:
Spoiler
1. Obey the rules at all times.
2. As soon as you have been eliminated from the game, please cease all posting. I don't mind a simple "Good luck [Insert your team here]!", but that is literally the extent of what will be permitted. You may not reveal or discuss anything else once you are dead.
3. Please be aware that violating the rules runs the risk of the dreaded Modkill. To preserve the integrity of the game, the following can and will be deemed offenses worthy of punishment (so avoid them like the plague): . Deleting or editing posts . Quoting or minimally-paraphrasing your role PM . Communicating via PM or outside chat unless you have specific permission to do so . Referencing other ongoing mafia games in which you or another player are/have been a part . Excessive inactivity . Multiple instances of posting during the Night Phase . Breaking the community rules of NGA
4. When voting or unvoting a person, please make sure to bold your VOTE or UNVOTE. If you do not, I will ignore that vote or unvote. Also, don't put your votes/unvotes in spoiler tags, where they can be easily missed.
5. Questions about the game should be directed to me via PM. Vote counts and requests for prodding players can be put in the game thread, but anything else will be ignored. Also, make sure to bold (and perhaps color in pink or another catchy color) any requests you have for me.
6. Please give advance notice if you are going to be away on vacation/business or otherwise absent. At least 72 hours notice is requested, but make sure you do not leave it until the last minute.
7. An in-game day consists of two phases - the Day Phase (which will typically last eight real-life days) and the Night Phase (which will typically last three real-life days). The Day Phase, to all you newcomers, is the phase in which you can discuss the events of the previous night, who is acting suspicious, who seems likely to be town/mafia, and so on and so forth. When you feel you are ready to cast your vote, do so, but know that until a majority is reached, you may unvote and recast your vote if you have a change of heart. At the end of the day, a player will typically be lynched, and his/her identity will be revealed (see Rule 8). The Day Phase then enters the Night Phase. During the Night Phase, no one is allowed to post. At the end of the Night Phase, I will make a "dawn post", which will reveal who, if anyone, was killed; the next day will subsequently begin after the dawn post.
8. Regarding the Vote: Once a majority has been reached, that player will be lynched. Any votes or alterations made after the majority vote will be ignored. After the lynch, we will proceed to the Night Phase. However, a deadline will be enforced to maintain activity. In the event the deadline is reached and a majority consensus has not been reached, the day will end in a No Lynch, and we will proceed to the Night Phase.
8. If you have a Night action (and you will know if you possess one), please make sure to PM me with your intentions in a timely fashion. If I do not hear from you, I will automatically count that as taking no night action. The results of your Night Actions will be returned to you via PM.
9. Remember to have fun while respecting your fellow participants. This will be a learning process for some people, so let's remember to keep the game enjoyable for all involved.
RECRUITMENT: This game, with regards to set-up, will be pretty basic as far as mafia games go. The town will be mostly vanillas plus a few key roles, and the mafia's power will be kept to a respectable level. There will be no tricks or mod-mischief. Roles will be completely randomized and distributed by me via PM. This is to help encourage inexperienced or brand-new players to participate. However, even veterans will hopefully find it enjoyable. If anything, this may be a learning experience for us all on this site.
I intend for this to be a 12-player game. However, this site is new, and I know that it may be difficult to fill the full 12. Therefore, if we still have not reached the quota in a week or two, I will reduce the starting game size. Remember, it is first come, first served.
You do not need to have a working knowledge of Innistrad or MTG lore to play this game!
I guess if I explain stuff to new players they will have to trust me to be honest about it <_<
Also, a small nitpick about the rules: Referencing other mafia games in which you or another player have been a part is actually a valid strategy if you've been playing like a dozen games together. It also helps those players to try and stay the same regardless of role or ability. It is however NOT allowed to reference ongoing games.

Even if they don't, they can always seek clarification from me (at least to the extent I can fairly provide it).

squinty_eyes: Alt, you have fantastic logic. And zero political prowess. CKY: Through a convoluted series of events involving three tons of garden gnomes and a pickup truck, Henderson’s Magikarp defeats the Deoxys terrorizing the city.
