how many games? 10?

hey if you awaken a land that just entered play this turn, does it have summoning sickness and can't attack? If so, how the heck do you know which land you just played?

About 5. I was going back and forth between this, Gruul Elementals (which got deleted), Gruul Ramp (which has issues of drawing too much mana fixing), mono Green pump, and mono green ramp inspired by Legenvd's build.

Horribly Awry is there to have a 2cmc answer to aggro, which looks like a rough matchup on paper. I wanted 2 cmc answers.. which is why Reprisal and Celestial Flare are there. I really wish I had Wall of Omens for this list.

Yeah, my initial builds are:

Gruel Monsters
Gruel Ramp
Red Aggro
Converge
Mono Green
Azorius Control

hmmmm...I'm forgetting something. I can't remember.

And for fun I want to see how my 2 thopter decks and red burn deck do in this new reality.

He's in the red aggro but but not the red burn.

He's the guy that gives everyone Menace when he's played? That seems only good in red aggro. My burn doesn't go wide or anything.

edit: thanks for the tip, btw

Ohh yeah.. I missed that one. It could probably be better than some of the other spells I have. Thanks Babs <3

@Babs

I swapped 2x Reprisal for 2x Gideon's Reproach and it has been much better. Great call.. thank you. The deck is still undefeated.

I put in Spell Shrivel bc Hakeem suggested it and I haven't been very impressed. These decks go late game.. as in, VERY late game.. and Spell Shrivel just sucks ass late.. like Mana Leak. I've been running 2x Countermand bc it hits everything, like Scatter to the Winds.. and doesn't have a bunch of restrictions. I'm shocked to see 4x Bone to Ash AND 3x Horribly Awry in your list CGB. I think that list looks weak in a control mirror.. but it sure would wreck just about any creature strategy.

Spell Shrivel is great for mid-range/on curve Planeswalkers. Even some aggro decks that don't manage to get what they need on board by turn 2 can be stalled enough with it. Sure, Horribly Awry should fill that slot, but I'd rather have 7 x chances of being able to stall them than 3 x chances.

I agree though, this list wouldn't hold up as well in a control mirror as mine with the inclusion of mill, but it would do considerably better (or at least have more consistency) against aggro-mid decks. If that is the meta CGB is facing then that's what he's got to build around. I'm not facing enough aggro outside of RDW to justify going this far into creature hate.

Just my 2 cents, having played against the CGB deck. The deck is impossible to play ramp against. It felt unwinable to me, although I think I went 1-2 with my monoG. Overal though, I think it was 1-3 or 4 for ramp strategies, as my Selesnya Ramp couldn't beat it either, and its (my deck's) control elements were totally blanked. I'm not sure I played them perfectly, but it was definitely an incredibly tough matchup.

Can it out control control? Possibly not, but if you think mill is beating a deck that main decks 3 Felidar Cubs, I am not so certain. It would, however, be an interesting match to watch.

On the other hand, my Red aggro would steamroll this deck. I wouldn't be surprised if it's 4-1 vs this, even on the draw, although I did lose on the draw when we matched up - I attribute that to me overplaying my hand though, because I thought I'd be able to flip Chandra. Without that mistake (devoid is not red!) I think I win that match too, bringing us to 3-0 for me, but it's not 100% certain - 2-1 was the actual.

Here's the important takeaway from the above... Control can beat ramp, and aggro will beat control. We have a healthy META, finally!

I just need to think about how I'd side-board against his deck now, in order to beat it. He suggested gruul ramp, but I haven't made it to gruul yet, I just started doing the guilds yesterday.

I played like 8 more games with my Awakened deck this morning, winning all of them.. but I'm still not loving Spell Shrivel. I can see the argument of stopping Planeswalkers on curve, and it's legit. I just hate how it almost a dead draw in the late game.. and it CERTAINLY is. I was against a guy with 12 mana out, and I was using Shrivel just to make him burn more mana per turn to keep him held down a little. After turn 7.. the value goes way down.

I think it depends heavily on the deck, and how much pressure you are putting on the opponent. In my experience, so far, spell shrivel has been fantastic. I'm not sure why it's not working as well for you. I think part of it is that the deck you seem to be describing is probably mostly sorcery speed, and not much scions. Am I right? Because, if so, it may be a bad fit in there, and it may be taking up a slot that would be better reserved for damage producers, or something else.

How is he getting to 12 mana? Shrivel his stupid ramp spells, lol. That's almost an auto-blank against ramp.

Not agreeing about spell shrivel being bad as it will be useful up until around 12-13 land which take a long time to get to unless you get a land flood on a ramp deck and in those cases you should have won already even with control. Horribly Awry is just the worst as it only counters early game creatures the rest of the time it does nothing. I cant think of many creatures it can counter that win games on their own.

It was a control mirror vs a list very similar to Nighthawk's Orzhov Control. Lots of draw-go and staring at each other.. he kept killing my Awakened Lands.. I kept drawing and making more.

I had Horribly Awry in the Shrivel slot but I let Hakeem talk me out of it. I just want more copies of Scatter to the Winds lol.. but I think Shrivel is going to become more copies of Countermand and something else. Countermand has been pretty awesome.. as it hits everything, same as Scatter.

I'm not saying it's bad.. it's just bad late. I really like the exile effect..

Natuko Husk, Whirler Rogue, first round of walkers, plus a whole host of utility creature. Smothering Abomination... Geez. The list is extremely long.

Your control deck might need a hair of early pressure. Or it may need to splash green for GR. Not sure... Where is the list?
