skyline cascade is worse then an island

Unless the deck has to be tapping out every turn (which blue is typically a color that doesn't need to) or has to have open mana that turn, then I disagree here. Blue is often associated with tempo or control and the effect would be useful in many cases. The tapped entry is moot for the most part since many tempo/control builds have similar slow lands and play slower games making skyline more palatable.

I don't like Skyline Cascade in many decks but it definitely has a place in Azorius Tapdown imo.

Skyline Cascade works fine in SImic Tempo, in fact arguably any Tempo. If there was a 2 color Control deck with Blue in it I'd be running it.

The AI certainly has caused me to utter some colourful language due to that damn tap island!

On another point I just hit the Emeria Sheppard-Giddeon combo yesterday which was pretty sweet. Is a late game one where you have Sheppard on board and Giddeon planesswalker in hand with a plains cast Giddeon and use his Ult for +1/+1 emblem he dies then play Plains to bring him back out and use his +0 for and extra 3/3 token. If Giddeon is on board hand you cast Sheppard with plains still to play you can also bring him back from graveyard and I don't think he has summoning sickness (bug)? Need to test again but i'm sure I attacked with him after bringing him back straight away.

maybe if the card actually tapped it'd be okay, but I don't like it for the same reason I don't like assassinate it's just too unreliable

I'd like it if it didn't etb tapped, even if it was colourless to balance that. I have no use for a tempo card that hurts my own tempo.

I can definitely see where you're coming from here, if it tapped it would be fantastic.

But in that sort of scenario (assassinate), the card is competing for a playable slot in the deck whereas Skyline would be competing against an Island. Even if you don't get the effect from the land, it'll still do it's job of producing :u: mana. The tap clause can be an issue in some cases but the decks that would play Skyline (mostly tempo and/or control decks) are probably meant to play a long game and won't (normally) be hurt by that. It's just unfortunate that there's no way to fetch it.

and like I said, a basic island is better then skyline

I have had hands in azorious tempo decks where I just throw it back only because I had battle/check lands and skylines

If I was to run one of the mono-color taplands in an azorious tempo deck I would pick sandstone bridge everytime

I think Sandstone Bridge is significantly worse than Skyline Cascade, because Sandstone Bridge relies on you having a creature out that can attack into nonlethal damage. All Skyline Cascade requires is that your opponent have a tapped creature period.

"creature out that can attack" sounds kind of familiar as to what a tempo deck is trying to do ;p

is it as good as say.... looming spires? no. I didn't even say I'd run them. (which I wouldn't) I'd still pick them over skyline.

Azorious Awakened Control - Land Beatdown

2 x Clutch of Currents

1 x Jace, Vryn's Prodigy
2 x Gideon's Reproach
2 x Celestial Flare
2 x Disperse

2 x Claustrophobia
2 x Scatter the Winds
2 x Roil Spout
3 x Spell Shrivel

3 x Inspiration
2 x Countermand
2 x Coastal Discovery
1 x Gideon, Ally of Zendikar

2 x Planar Outburst
2 x Tragic Arrogance
3 x Angelic Edict

1 x Oblivion Sower

1 x Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger

8 x Plains
9 x Island
2 x Prairie Stream
2 x Glacial Fortress
4 x Evolving Wilds

It's got half decent early game with a bunch of instants vs Sly.. and the late game is pretty nuts. Lots of free creatures (lands) and solid finishers.

I made 5 decks last night and played until 4am. The above list is the only one that went undefeated.. and I don't think I particularly played it well (kept tapping the lands I was awakening). I wish the deck had more instants, especially instant draw. I'm tempted to Swap Coastal Discovery out for Inspiration sans one copy.. but I don't think it would change much.

What do you think of Spell Shrivel instead of Horribly Awry? Or is the 1cmc cost a big difference?

how many games? 10?

hey if you awaken a land that just entered play this turn, does it have summoning sickness and can't attack? If so, how the heck do you know which land you just played?

thanks Kryder, I didn't even know that. I did the skill quest and everything!

Speaking of which, am I the only person on these forums that farmed the new skill quests for the gold?

Nope, I did it too. Didn't need it since I had the gold to buy the whole thing outright, but it helps for OotG.
