Strategy: Create a creature lockdown with Fleshbag Marauder spam that can be recurred using Mortuary Mire, Gravedigger and Greenwarden of Murasa while slowly eating away at opponents life with other stuff. It combos deliciously with Vampiric Rites which also combos with From Beyond

Swell of Growth looks out of place to me since it's not a creature strong deck nor is it aggro and it seems better in a proper landfall based deck whereas this just as some retreats.

it also has nissa, but yeah out of place

oh another thing has anyone else been pretty disappointed with fertile thicket? I mean it's good early on but it's effect can screw you when you need to not be drawing lands

I am disappointed with the Fertile Thicket as well. As for Swell of Growth, I don't have all the cards yet and had some huge empty spaces to fill and no idea with what. So some extra ramp came in.

Fleshbag Marauder - The Deck

3x Vampiric Rites
3x Shadows of the Past
1x Liliana, Heretical Healer
3x Fleshbag Marauder
3x Gravedigger
2x Retreat to Hagra
2x Languish
2x Necromantic Summonings
1x Ob Nixilis Reiginited

3x Reclamation Sage
2x Retreat to Kazandu
4x Natural Connection
2x From Beyond
4x Mwonvuli Acid-Moss
1x Greenwarden of Murasa
1x Woodland Bellower

2x Woodland Cemetery
4x Mortuary Mire
3x Fertile Thicket
6x Swamp
8x Forest

-Nissa and Swell of Growth
+ Necro Summon and Ob

No idea if this is any better yet since I'm testing a mono black deck that's incredibly fun to play.

Beast, your golgari midrange's second run was rough. 0-1. I got blown out by boros agro. That's back to back losses for golgari so I deleted it. :(

I'm going to play your temur for four straight days now. To help with the community quiet :). I'll let you know how she rolls

Don't take this as a defense to the card, but it's a may ability.

so in the late game it's just a bad basic forest? except it's not even a forest so it doesn't trigger check and battle lands

yeah I've convinced myself, never running the damn things again

My head has been spinning with all the new cards, the only deck that I have pulled together and been very happy with has been this updated Golgari Control list. Not sure if this is similar to anyone else's list, (wouldn't be too surprised) but I wanted to share it with y'all to see if anyone has an tweaks that I'm not seeing or if anyone wants a solid list to use.

4x Blisterpod
4x Perilous Myr
3x Gatecreeper Vine
3x Elvish Visionary
3x Fleshbag Marauder
1x Liliana, Heretical Healer
1x Nissa, Vastwood Seer
2x Smothering Abomination
2x Gravedigger

1x Ob Nixilis Reignited

4x Bone Splinters
2x Cruel Revival

2x Vampiric Rites
2x Evolutionary Leap
2x From Beyond

7x Swamp
7x Forest
2x Woodland Cemetery
4x Golgari Guildgate
4x Evolving Wilds

New cards
4x Blisterpod
The deck runs even more ways to sacrifice creatures now and even without the sacrifice synergy having a 1 drop that can chump block twice is very nice. Had one game where I didnt want to use liliana +2 and just reanimated Pod 3 times to stall the game out. Very happy to add this little eldrazi to the deck

2x Smothering Abomination
a 4/3 flier for 4 is already really good in this underpowered format. being a sac outlet itself and also comboing with the other sac outlets makes this card an awesome addition.

1x Ob Nixilis Reignited
Very solid walker. Paying 5 to destroy a creature was already something we were all happy to do, and this guy sticks around and can draw cards and maybe even hit a second creature or ultimate.

2x Vampiric Rites
Comparable to Evolpea and sometimes much better than Evolpea. the life gain isn't irrelevant in plenty of games, 2 mana to activate is usually not much harder than the 1 I would have had for Evolpea anyways.

2x From Beyond
When I first started Magic Duels I was in love with Zendikar's Roil. This card is just plain better since it is sure to trigger every turn. having more chump blockers and guys to sacrifice is much appreciated. Very happy to see this card early to slow down aggro, mid game for sacrifice synergy, and late game for inevitability.

Cards that are missing
2x Languish
A million chump blockers and perilous myr and everything makes it so plenty of games where my opponent has a wide field I can stave them off just fine without Languish. Every once in a while though I wish I had it. Finding room for it is the main issue. Most games I do not miss it.
Xx Read the Bones
Having 1 or 2 of these in past versions I've had has been nice, but it's never really felt necessary and now with Vampiric and Smothering it isn't needed and would just take up space
1x Cruel Revival
Always wanted 3 of these pre-bfz. Cut one for Ob Nixilis and havn't looked back.
2x Reclamation Sage
Cut it for space reasons, when the meta is stable and we know what the best decks are then I will figure whether he is needed. Definitely a good card, but have not missed him so far.
1x Gatecreeper Vine and 1x Elvish Visionary
Cut for space and having Blisterpod now as an additional sac target it didn't feel necessary to run the full 8. Might run 4 and 2 split eventually if I figure which one is better, but right now 3-3 is just fine.

This deck feels really solid and if you love to durdle and eek out advantage with all the sacrifice synergy it's definitely the deck for you.

Abzan, Jund, and Sultai all have their appealing bits to add, but the less consistent mana bases take a toll on their appeal for me. For the deckbuilder who wants to abuse sacrifice synergies as much as possible Golgari is definitely the way to go.

Nice list.
Have you tried out From Beyond? It seems quite strong on paper.

Thinking about it. Feels slow for this build, and there is no Eldrazi endgame, which could be wrong on it's own. I do love the card, and I have it in two other theory-crafted lists right now.

Theory crafting with 61 cards for a reason?

Yes, the reason is I suck at addition.

Interesting how this thread died down, considering Golgari was once lauded as the end-all of control in this game.
Here's my attempt to bring it back to a head:

Float Like Butterfly, Sting Like An... Eldrazi?

Creatures 22
2x Carrier Thrall
4x Gatecreeper Vine
4x Elvish Visionary
1x Nissa, Vastwood Seer
1x Liliana, Heretical Healer
1x Reclamation Sage
2x Smothering Abomination
2x Priest of the Blood Rite
1x Greenwarden of Murasa
1x Woodland Bellower
1x Oblivion Sower
1x Deathless Behemoth
1x Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger

Non-creatures 14
1x Vampiric Rites
4x Bone Splinters
2x Evolutionary Leap
2x Titan's Presence
2x From Beyond
2x Languish
1x Ob Nixilis Reignited

Lands 24
4x Swamp
7x Forest
2x Woodland Cemetery
2x Rogue's Passage
2x Mortuary Mire
3x Golgari Guildgate
4x Evolving Wilds

Your deck looks like fun Chile! I still haven't managed to even finish collecting the Origins set but my B/G "dirty elves" deck wins 7/10 times and it's not really much of a control deck.

3 x Thornbow Archer
3 x Bone Splinters
3 x Scarred Vinebreeder
2 x Dwynen's Elite
3 x Gatecreeper Vine
2 x Lys Alana Scarblade
3 x Eyeblight Assassin
1 x Nissa, Vastwood Seer
3 x Jagged-Scar Archers
3 x Reclamation Sage
1 x Shaman of the Pack
1 x Nissa's Pilgrimage
1 x Gwynen, Gilt-Leaf Daen
4 x Lys Alana Huntmaster
2 x Gilt-Leaf Winnower
1 x Woodland Bellower
7 x Swamp
10 x Forest
2 x Woodland Cemetery
4 x Golgari Guildgate

Mostly a matter of slapping stuff down and outlasting the competition, building up more and more of those dirty elves until you just overwhelm the other player  It's fun for a while but can get a bit monotonous, especially if you're trying to grind against the AI!

I tried to find a way to make Defiant Bloodlord work.
You have to get it out fast, so ramp it is.

So in the end I came up with this:

3 x Jaddi Offshoot
4 x Elvish Visionary
1 x Nissa, Vastwood Seer
3 x Retreat to Kazandu
2 x Natural Connection
4 x Read the Bones
2 x Nissa's Pilgrimage
3 x Bloodbond Vampire
4 x Mwonvuli Acid-Moss
3 x Unholy Hunger
1 x Ob Nixilis Reignited
1 x Oblivion Sower
2 x Nissa's Renewal
2 x Defiant Bloodlord
1 x Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger

6 x Swamp
8 x Forest
2 x Woodland Cemetery
2 x Fertile Thicket
2 x Mortuary Mire
4 x Evolving Wilds

This deck is total trash, but somehow it works.

Any suggestions?

It's because your tendencies are overriding the cold calculating logic and gripping horror that is the combination of / ;)

edit: oops, for some reason I thought we were talking about / .. it's actually / .. duh, my bad :ookay:
