It's been a while, and I could use a brief distraction, so, let's go!

Quote:
Solphos is under attack! Huinn, Last of the Darkwings must gather allies such as Lia Xin before it's too late, but Huinn is hampered when he gets drawn into complex political intrigue by Auric Avarius.

Solphos may want to choose its saviors better...

I get the feeling that Huinn is the attacker, not the protector.

Also, I loved the Aloise/Maral piece, Ruwin. I want to get the rest of that story at some point.

...ouch. That hurt.
Good work.

Haha, wow, thanks all! I didn't think that was going to be so well received :D

When I read the prompt, my first thought was "Why would Aloise think a gun is important?"

My second thought, almost immediately after the first, was "Because it's Fisco's."

And from there it was just a matter of deciding how Maral and Aloise determined value. Thanks for reading! Such as it is. :)

Fwiw, Maral probably wouldn't be terribly impressed by a gun. She's not all that concerned with purpose as much as efficiency.

Alessa Rehn does an Aubedore reading for Aloise Hartley in the "Crossroads" pattern.

For the corners, she draws the Shadows (inverted), the Orphan (inverted), the Seamstress (inverted) , and the Seeker.

For the spokes, she draws the Poet (inverted), the Flag (inverted), the Field (inverted), and the Knight (inverted).

At the Crossroads, she lays the Hourglass vertically as the destination, under the fate card of the Wanderer (inverted), which is horizontal.

Aloise Hartley is visibly shaken by the reading.

Very interesting. Very interesting...

I have a bad feeling about this...

Heroes in a round shrub! Brushwagg power!

Thank God you made that joke, Keeper. Because, if you didn't, I was going to. :D

Oh-em-gee, Ruwin. That's craaaaaazy good.

I mean, it's making me tear-up a little bit. But it's also crazy good!

Thanks so much for sharing.

Thanks, OL! I had to write that on my phone so I was trying to be minimalist... glad it got the point across. :D

I'm not sure what Fwiw means. O_O

Also, since the implication was that the gun in question is Fisco's "Two Bullets" gun, it's probably worth noting that it was one of the most powerful weapons in his arsenal. I believe it came in as a close fourth behind Xeran, Diana, and his penchant for fishing puns.

I suppose it was lucky he never bothered reloading it or using it again, since he based the magic inside of it off of the Wastes. Hm... now I want to design a card...

My fake guess is "Fonzie's Wig is Weird."

My real guess is "For What It's Worth."

Sometimes, though, those sorts of external limitations help, you know? They force you to get to the heart of the story, instead of lingering around the edges. They force you to actually think really hard about just what it is that you're trying to say.

I'm going with the first one.

You know, the only other piece I wrote on my phone was the Pulseforge short for Myths of Syraus. Thinking back on when I did that, you're very right. It was easier to speak for the Primarch when I couldn't type for very long.

In a similar way, I used to find the character limits on Raven's FotW prompts very liberating, as strange as that may sound.

Instead of worrying, "have I told enough story?", it allowed me to ask, "have I told the right part of the story?"

And that's a more interesting question, in some ways.

But seriously, Huinn!?! I rate lower than Huinn? I mean, I know I hang out in the woods for weeks at a time with wild animals and I haven't showered in seven years, but HUINN!?!"

I think the bigger question here is why did Aloise invite Chardis in the first place?

It’s an interplanar game of Tag! Ilyta tags The Eightfold Lotus on the Djinn-ruled elemental plane Wildfire, who tags Gruff on Aralheim, who tags Lukas Harran on Ravnica. Lukas attempts to tag Lumina Revelaris on the conspiracy-ridden plane of Fiora, but Lumina narrowly escapes! Now Lukas is experiencing an unexplainable power trip at being “It”.

Apparently, Lukas takes Tag very seriously.

Doesn't The Pale Priestess show how the guy can seem... well... good? The questions are "would Aloise see through his mask?" and "why would he put up this facade with her?". The answers to the second one... I'm not sure I wanna think about that.

Well, that's easy! Tey'von takes the mox diamond from Fisco to teach him a lesson about the destructive qualities of greed. Which leads to Tey'von getting a lesson in the destructive qualities of Fisco Vane. Kimberley is trying to get everyone out alive, but realizes that she cannot do anything against Fisco's anger. So she goes to get Jinsen, who is currently training by sparring with some of the greatest Kitsune samurai on Kamigawa. Makes perfect sense...ish.

Everything starts to fall apart though when a rival appears with The Ythol Annulus and becomes Dark Magical Girl Aloise Hartley

This is the best worst Magical Girl prompt

Vampire: "Yo!"
Vampire: "So, um, Cara? Yeah, you've got special magical powers. And that's not because I just drained your blood and turned you into a vampire or anything like that. You're... you are the defender of Equilor! Congratulations! Yeah, that's the ticket. Here, you can defend Equilor with this nifty gun. It has, er, special magic powers that it gives you."
Cara: "Isn't a gun a nonmagical artifact? And why do I crave the blood of the living?"
Vampire: "Not this one! It's... er... a super special gun. And blood cravings are totally natural. You should just have a sip of somebody and call it a night."
Cara: "Sounds legit. Now to defend Equilor from... what exactly? I don't think Equilor has any notable threats or problems."
Aloise: "AH HA HA HA! Now that I have the Ythol Annulus I can bring HAPPY THOUGHTS, OPENNESS, and SUNSHINE to the multiverse!"
Vampire: "Sunshine? Aw heck no. I think that's your cue Cara. I'll be over here. At a safe distance from the chick with unlimited power. But you've got that awesome gun, you'll be fine."
Cara: "OMG it's all gone wrong! I must pray to the gun and meditate to find the true power inside myself to defeat Aloise!"
Vampire: "... please don't waste time trying to unlock fun powers. Please just shoot her."
