These formats (which get roughly 0% play) will remain :

Planechase
Momir Basic
Freeform
Freeform Vanguard

What would be useful now is a player written deck legality checker.
Suggest 100s and tw for first two format checks.

Momir is a pretty popular format. I usually get takers on playing it pretty quickly.

I think they have to leave freeform as that is their way around lying about keep some of these formats forever. They just say you can play it in free form. They still lied to us about keeping the formats. If only they could go back on that stupid reprint policy like they do on promises to digital.

Actually that might be your way around it. Threaten a class action suit due to them not living up to their public promise. That was done on the reprint policy even when things were done within the bounds of the rules people still threatened and then they tightened up the rules even more.

Pretty sure the CoC will cover that issue and make it a non-starter.

Many times it is easier for them to change than to actually fight. It would also make them think a lot harder about it next time.

I have not read over the COC nor am I a lawyer. Though I do believe those agreements can only hold up so far. My law teacher once mentioned how if you owned a roller rink and there was a big hole in the floor no amount of signs or agreements are going to spare you legal trouble from people falling into that hole.

Did he also mention about the rule of common sense? Big hole = no skating because you might fall in.

If you thought lawsuits were about common sense then you may want to talk to Stella Liebeck.

I was just trying to offer alternative suggestions that seemed to have worked for people pressuring Wizards before.

I saw Hot Coffee... hearing the other side of that story was very interesting and shifted my sympathies toward the plaintiff. If you haven't seen that documentary, you might want to check it out.

I KNOW they aren't always about common sense. But often times they are. The examples of the exceptions are extremely exceptional. The hot coffee/mcdonald's case being at the top of my list. (Readers discussed this one, in one of my articles a few years ago in the comments section.)

Why is the petition only for 2HG?

Because the person that made it must have cared more about 2hg than other formats? I didn't start it, but since 2hg is my fav format, I did sign and link to it.

The problem with a single format petition is it is guaranteed to fail because it doesn't appeal to the supporters of all the other formats. If you wanted to spread a message that casual matters, this wasn't it. :(

WotC should create more casual formats not fewer.

Last time around LTW was kept and the other 21 formats deleted. So a single format petition might just work. It worked the last time around?

It seems that the hard core LTW PRE fans can still play their PRE using the Legacy format or the freeform format. In contrast to this 2HG fans who have no alternative. So the 2HG crowd is probably more desperate.

And how about the 6 player FFA fans? We don't even merit discussion anymore. I also miss Emperor (though that hasn't worked well in a while). If there was a promised to fix them and return them, I could see this move; but a blanket "they're gone" is what really bothers me.

Just because I like stirring the pot and watching what happens:

http://wpn.wizards.com/en/event/prerelease-oath-gatewatch

Quote:
What's Different About Oath of the Gatewatch Prerelease?

Two-Headed Giant is Central to the Experience

Oath of the Gatewatch is all about teamwork. It's designed to support Two-Headed Giant better than most any set in Magic history.

I look forward to this in all the articles that or local writers make.

There's no way that the timing of them axing online 2hg and the design of that set is a coincidence. Prophet of Kruphix sort of broke online 2hg because it was almost like having 4 turns per round, since each player's turn was distinct in online 2hg. It was especially apparent as a problem card (to me, at least) in EDH. I bet the new set has a lot of cards that are "fair" in paper 2hg but that would be similarly overpowered in the online form. And their online team doesn't have the talent to overhaul online 2hg so they just came up with a BS excuse to get rid of it before it could become a problem. Well played, WotC.

BTW, I counted modern tables on the last day with all combinations of games per match and time checked. There were about 30 tables running when I counted and 3 of them were 2hg. So just by table count it was roughly 10%, never mind that each 2hg table has double the players. It was a single sample and it was on the last day so 2hg participation might have been inflated by players who where trying to squeeze in as much 2hg as they could before it went, but I still think there were usually at least 2 games running constantly during normal play hours, vs maybe 30-40 single player games, so I am very skeptical of their claims of <1%.

These formats were less than 1% of the games that took tickets or points to enter. You did not read the fine print obviously.

In most cases that number would be near 0% not 1%. But all game play on WOTC requires some expenditure eventually. They do not directly profit from the secondary market, however casual play expenses tend to start at the tix to pay for the cards that go into their decks. Which is a slow but steady turn around if they care. Which they don't. WOTC does not care. Bottom line.

I haven't had a game since the formats went poof. Even though I see that Commander 3-4 player exists, I haven't actually seen a game of multi-player fire on the times I can log-in. Anyone else having the same experience.

I played one 4 player FFA (Modern) since they killed 2HG. But I've only logged in a handful of times and only sat at the one table so that isn't really indicative of the number of games firing. Still, FFA seems less popular than 2HG ever was. They'll prolly get rid of it next year with the same BS about "streamlining table creation" and "focusing efforts on what matters most to the shareholders players".

While I do think WOTC's priorities are up their collective places where the sun don't shine, I have to say I have continued playing. I want to show that playing Legacy Tribal Wars matters enough to me that I play even without the proper legality and filters set. The fact that we are forced to use just the legacy banlist except by mutual agreement is highly annoying but in the end I am still playing and still enjoying the game.

I hope at some point, someone sensible takes control of the steering of the ship before the game crashes and burns (I don't see that happening soon but it could happen eventually if they alienate enough players. Reputation matters somewhat.) But until such times as that happens or until the game finally becomes unplayable online I will continue on as always.
