Post #6 of this topic:
Just as a general reminder, I asked DJ0045 to create this thread to look for long-term solutions.
Try to just name the problems objectively. That's the best way for everyone to look at these things. Try not to let emotions from the problems in those threads leak in here.

And about 100 posts back:

We are working on our side with the question of more eyes to watch the boards. It's time for you guys to show that you can hold up your end of the bargain as well.

Oh, and one last thing:
This topic is not meant to discuss every wrong post on the Duel boards. This was made to look for long-term solutions. We've had plenty of examples of the environment already and you can just do the usual for new stuff. Report and move on. Do not bring it up here.

And Mjack, I'm looking at you specifically for this because you were the catalyst last time and are it again in this thread right now. I even explicitly mentioned you in that previous post.

We are not going to look through every thread. Use the report button and move on.

Yeah, I tried telling him he's only going to be happy when he's making the rules. He didn't listen. Hopefully if a few more people tell him, it'll take.

So if there is a string of off topic posts in a thread, should I report every single post in that string or is there a different way you would prefer it be handled?

This is an honest question.

I think automatic reporting of anything off-topic is a touch excessive. Not to mention a nuisance to mods. There's a happy medium to be reached between these points, which is totally fine for a community.

I agree. My question is pertaining to how should I react if I feel the happy medium has been crossed. This is a reasonable question.

Realistically I think only malicious off topic posting should be an issue. Intent to frustrate, antagonise or harass a user. Otherwise, who really cares? They're conversations, if you're having one in person and someone deviates to another topic, do you chastise them?

If you feel that line has been crossed the best bet would be to report the instigating post - the one where things really start diverting from any semblance of constructive content. When doing the report just stick a line in there along the lines of 'Things started derailing here'.

Honestly though I don't believe that a thread meandering a little off topic is an inherently bad thing, especially when the off-topic discussion follows a pretty logical progression and doesn't really detract for it's presence.

As an example look at the Where Do You Draw the Line? thread. Yes the thread has strayed a little of it's original topic but when an option is included to the effect of 'I'm busy playing other things' it isn't unsurprising or unacceptable that people would discuss the games they are playing instead. That for me is a fine off-topic tangent.

I'm thinking more of the Jennifer Lawrence Thread that got moved over to the otr, not current examples. This was just a question I wanted answered for future reference.

The funny thing about this is that I think it's gotten to the point where your raging hate-on for Jennifer Lawrence now has you mentioning her more than any other single user. Very possibly because I'm not in the off-topic thread, but you're the only person I've seen mention her in the last week.

Well, Jennifer Lawrence is a bad actress so it's understandable.

A good first step in keeping people from being "butthurt" is to stop accusing people of being "butthurt". HTH.

'Stop being so defensive,' heh.

Yeah, you're right, this isn't helping the situation.
