Golgari Control IMO needs to be splashed with some strong midrange creatures. I don't like the whole 'win with a bunch of Perilous Myrs/Elvish Visionaries/Gravediggers and the occasional planeswalker' build that Hakeem runs. It's a freaking green deck.. 2x Outland Colossus, 2x Gaea's Revenge, 1x Erebos Titan and at least 1x Kothophed are must-runs IMO. I think I also run Woodland Bellower and I know I run 2x Gilt Leaf Winnower. I don't play a bunch of durdle-y ass cards like Shadows of the Past, Bitter Revelation, Necromantic Summons, Gravedigger, etc.

I'm not feeling the Jund Monsters.. I see no reason to gum up the mana base with black. Gruul Monsters is totally fine though.. the only strategy that punishes it is bounce.

Did I say Jund Monsters?? I meant Gruel Monsters, sorry. I've given up on that deck. I've been getting slammed with it.

Yeah, my former golgari control build was using shadows of the past, necromantic summons and gravedigger. I'd stabilize the beginning of the game no problem and then I'd go nowhere.

Bassoon, is grixis control any good? Was that the pile Hakeem played once in a Twitch stream?

Is it good?

You don't remember when you gave Hakeem a deck to build during a stream. It was funny.

I'll post my Golgari list in the proper section. When I want to win.. its what I play. I actually feel more confident in it than I do with my Temur list bc mana.

Grixis Control is Rakdos Control with better draw, worse creatures and horrible mana.

Barney,

If you are playing against the AI, Boros Voltron is your best bet for getting gold the quickest, that and Mono-White. They win or lose fast so you'll cap out in an hour to hour and a half.

If you are playing against people, the quickest way, and it pains me to say this, is RDW. Again, it wins or loses pretty quickly and some decks just can't handle it's aggressive, wide stance.

I'm more of a fan of Golgari Control, not Golgari Mid-range, but each have their merits. Both can do well against the meta as it stands right now.

IzzetThopters is probably my favorite deck to start out with right now. It can do well against any deck in the format, has great draw power, and can just win in the air if nothing else.

As much as well all love Grixis, I'm waiting for B4Z to break into that Dragon...

I'll post any of my decklist you want to try later tonight if you ask.

Bassoon, is it that Heil Bolas deck?

Beasty, I can't imagine anything being better than your temur. I did a 25 win streak with that or something.

Kryder, I'm not playing against the AI anymore. Only humans. i'm just grinding gold, i'm grinding wins (for the cheevo). My red aggro won some and then lost. I'll try my other red decks to see. You might be right about RDW.

I can't think of another deck with a better chance of quick wins against people, and that's pretty sad since it is such a bad deck. Boros Voltron is also pretty severe and win with a quickness, but if your first creature or two gets whacked, your pretty much screwed.

It's not GREAT it's just above average. 4-turn clock.. saves you cards by letting you remove stuff with the activated ability.. Can be brought back back with Cruel Revival (and not targeted by opponents Cruel Revival).. good target for Ignition.. Can burn the face if the board is stalled. It's no Gaea's Revenge.. but it's better than people give it credit for.

The other argument for it is.. what else are you gonna run? Erebos Titan, Kothophed, Jorubai, Disciple of the Ring.. they're gonna make the cut.. but what else after that? I guess you could run the Thopter creatures.. but they don't flat out clock the opponent like a 5 power dude.. Blazing Hellhound is hot garbage.. Priest of the Blood Rite is a good contender but the token dies to bounce and the 2/2 kills you.. red doesn't have anything like it except Embermaw Hellion.. which is a pretty solid card but you have to build around it. The only other thing blue offers is Alhammarett.. but I think he totally sucks.

yeah the immunity to cruel revival is what really sells it to me. (plus while it's not GR it can certainly block and kill GR :p )

I forgot another card that competes with it is Gilt Leaf Winnower.. which is a pretty solid option.. even though my meta has ELVES EVERYWHERE!!

and it's not just rakdos control with less bombs and more draw

it's also dimir control with better removal... and bombs. really it's just a better dimir control, if you can fix the fuster cluck that is the mana

Yeah.. Telling Time + Evolving Wilds isn't really enough.

A lot of Red/Black removal overlaps.. like Reave Soul fills most of the same role as Fiery Impulse and Twin Bolt (the only added benefit is that it kills the 2/4's of the world).. but how much weenie removal do you really need? I personally would run Grixis as Rakdos with a blue splash for Jorubai, Telling Time and Disciple of the Ring. I wouldn't run Disperse or Counter Spells.

I don't think I run disperse or counter spells either

blue mostly exists for the tutelage. duh :p and to be frank I don't much like reave soul, I personally feel people over value it way to much (mostly thanks to legenVd) and the fact that red reoval is instant speed is the true selling point for me
