Dryad Militant

What happens when a manifested Instant or Sorcery dies while a player has a Dryad Militant out? Does it get exiled, or does it die as a creature and stay in the graveyard? 707.9 states that face-down permanents are turned face-up as they move from the battlefield to any other zone, but that doesn't really help determine which characteristics (2/2 creature versus instant/sorcery card) are considered for the replacement effect.

I'm leaning more towards exile.

Thought Process

It goes to the graveyard. There's an event trying to change the game state from "Game state pre-event" to "Game state post-event". Game state pre-event includes a 2/2 face down creature on the battlefield. Game state post event changes that to a Lightning Bolt (or whatever) in the graveyard.

If a replacement effect needs to know any piece of info about the game state, it will always* look at the game state pre-event, because the game state post-event is uncertain (replacement effects change the future!). So Dryad Militant sees a creature card trying to go to a graveyard and the replacement effect doesn't apply to it.

*There's an exception, not applicable here: when a replacement effect needs to know something about a permanent that's entering the battlefield, the permanent only exists after the event and there is a rule that helps us predict the future to determine its future characteristics.

Interesting...Thank you for the clarification.
