I think Proteiform Brain's probably too clever for it's own good. It really needs to require blue mana to work. Otherwise it's a pie violation. Heck, adding to the cost arguably makes the card better. That or restrict it from hitting 0 cmc cards and the cost can stay the same.

It's not more of a pie violation than Mental Misstep, and it's incapable of hitting cmc 0 cards unless you have cost reduction.

[slaps forehead] Yep, this can't hit zero cmc cards. I still think you shouldn't be able to counter a spell with just colourless mana. Especially not for just 2.
It's a smaller break than Mental Misstep, but I feel that Misstep was a mistake.
