I mean, if memory serves monks in 3.5 could beat somebody to death with their hair, so I'm not gonna question a minor parlor trick of dexterity.

Is everyone settled into the group now? Do you need me to move you guys on?

Don't think so.
Not like I knew what the time was to begin with, but it sounds early to be twilight.

Sure, I can probably do it. Have some trouble imagining it though.

Rules Question Time
Martial Arts, pg. 78 wrote:
When you use the Attack action with an unarmed strike or a monk weapon on your turn, you can make one unarmed strike as a bonus action.

Contests in Combat, pg. 195 wrote:
Battle often involves pitting your prowess against that of your foe. Such a challenge is represented by a contest. This section includes the most common contests that require an action in combat: grappling and shoving a creature. The DM can use these contests as models for improvising others.

Grapple, pg. 195 wrote:

I think I read on /tg/ that someone stat you can't e.g. grapple someone, then punch them, and I guess it's open to interpretation. While they are Attack actions, it's questionable whether it falls under "unarmed strike or monk weapon", since you aren't actually hitting them. I was going to see if I could try to make some more creative attacks, so I should probably get this clear up before I make assumptions.

I mean, I'm pretty much ready to go, just giving other people a chance to introduce themselves, don't want this to turn into "The adventures of Luka (featuring some other guys that show up sometimes when the fighting starts)" :P.

I think strictly speaking, yeah, a grapple is a separate kind of attack, not an unarmed attack or monk weapon (At least going by your quotes, don't feel like digging my book out right now), but personally I'd roll with it because it'd probably be fine, and getting creative with combat is almost always a good idea. Ultimately up to Squinty though, just my thoughts.

I think you're safe here, Mown. Grappling is under the Attack section, so it's still an attack, even if a special melee one, and you also need to be unarmed to grapple, which qualifies for your monk features.

Bear in mind that, as a halfling, the size restrictions for grappling are going to make your life significantly harder.

I wasn't really planning on Grappling specifically. More like, throw dirt in people's faces, latch myself on them with rope, punch some people out of breath, trip them, drag cloth over their heads, etc.

Doesn't actually talk about it, as far as I can see. I just looked at the monk section though.

Err the one I was looking at earlier? I'd have to go check but I think it was the right one.

That just seems like a subjective interpretation, and not an official stance. I just think the ability is poorly worded, because of instances like:
If I want to trip someone, it would presumably also fall under attack actions. If I am doing so unarmed, then I would not get a bonus attack, since I am not making an "unarmed strike". If I use my quarterstaff to trip them, however, I am making an Attack action with a monk weapon.

If I throw sand in their face, I guess I am technically using an improvised weapon. I don't know if those are actually simple/monk weapons or not.

the discussion continues to page 2. You might get a better idea if you keep reading on.

My internet is slowly dying. Trying to get it fixed but it is spotty at best. ETF looks to be days. If I drop of the face of the internet without explanation that is the cause.

Crisis averted! Had to make some DIY mods that look almost Frankensteinian in nature but the damned thing is working now! Woohoo!

You saw nothing. Nothing was edited. I don't play two tieflings and didn't get their names confused. I don't even know where you would get that insane idea. It's probably an urban myth.
