As a general rule I never touch anything more complex or delicate then myself. I booted the planner up once and had absolutely no idea what I was doing with it.

Takes a bit of work to figure out I suppose...

Copy (or duplicate) the D1 sheet.

There are toggles towards the top to turn on colors/card types. If you don't set those you will not get the cards in the drop downs.

If you delete out old stuff you can wipe out some of the functionality in the cells, this will screw up the number of cards sometimes, or at least in the right most column, watch out for that.

That's about as far as I use it anyway. Probably more advanced stuff you can do as well, but learning those little things made it much easier for me to get decks in relatively easily.

Ok, I'll write a short guide later. The deck planner is really easy to use once you know what to click. There are a lot of useful information, but they aren't required to just make a deck list ;-)

Anthonli, as an everyday excel user I have to admit, that this spreadsheet is a work of art!:-)

Things I'd modify/add:
Remove a [/plB] before the spell list (seems like a leftover code) I'll take a look at this, it doesn't turn up everytime, so must be a row that's causing problem
Check if [a] isn't greater than avail. so you can't add fe. 4 Thopter Spy Networks or at least get an error or something. The cell will actually turn red if you key in more than available, I can make it reject inputs, but it will cause frustration to less skilled users
Move the sum of cards added from the bottom to the top, so you can follow it all the time while theorycrafting a deck in the sheet. Should be easy to do *fingers crossed*

Thanks for the suggestion Auunj. I've added it to the todo list.

Since it's a pain for users to copy their decks (I know, I have many, just see the decks tab ) whenever I release a new version, I try to do it as little as possible. My next planned release is when BFZ cards for the games are available.

That is much, much appreciated!

I've seeded some, hopefully, helpful pop-ups when you mouse over certain cells :teach:, but I think they may not be descriptive enough.

I promised to write a guide on how to use the Deck planner. I actually wrote the whole guide and my browser crashed, but I’m really determined, so here it is, written for the 2nd time…

1. Open This Link.
2. Click File (left upper corner)
3. From the drop-down menu select Make a Copy
4. Click Ok (renaming is optional)

Now you have an editable document.

5. Clear the fields C9 to C78
6. Clear the fields F9 to F50
7. The fields G3 to L3 are card color filters. Here you can select colors of cards you want to be able to browse (For example, to browse Golgari Colors select: Colorless: Yes, W – No, U – No, B – Yes, R – No, G – Yes)
8. The fields H5 to L5 are card type filters. Here you can select types of cards you want to be able to browse (select Yes in all cells to browse all card types)
9. In the field P1 change your deck’s name (fe. Elfgari)

Now we’re ready to create a deck

10. In the fields F9 to F50 you can select what cards you want in your deck, either by writing (autocomplete) or in the drop-down menu.
11. In the fields C9 to C50 you can select how many of the specified card you want to run in your deck
12. In the fields C51 to C78 you can select how many of the specified land you want to run in your deck

That’s it, let’s post!

13. Press the big field on the right with the deckplanner.
14. Press Ctrl + C (copy)
15. Paste the deck on the forums.

I hope that the instructions are clear, if anything isn't, just let me know, I'll try to improve the how-to.

This is how the Elfari example deck looks like in the deck planner:

And this is how the deck looks posted to the forums:

Is anything below row 8 supposed to change if I select a different deck in row 1? Nothing changes for me, and I have no idea how to make it change. Sorry, but this thing is incomprehensible in its current state. Has a lot of potential though.

Also, you should mention that one is supposed to log in with their Google account, otherwise "Make Copy" is unavailable.

honestly I think the reason the one during 2015 was so prolific is because it was simple, no menus just select your color click the card build the deck, this has multiple pages and multiple drop down bars and is overly complex compared to what I'm used to

reward has to be equal or greater then effort for something like this to be used. the amount of effort needed for this is way to much for a little bit more organization.

I even made a deck and i timed how long it took, it took me 5 mins longer then it took me to write out the deck list by hand and write the explanation on what the deck does

The rows below column 8 will not change by itself. You have to manually delete and key in the files you want.
Would an auto-delete function work for you?

Thanks for the comments. I understand that it is unnecessarily complex
I'm still working to figure out the various scripts and formulas in G! Sheets and having everything in sight helps me to keep track and prevent screw-ups. In future versions, I'll tidy up and try keep complexity out.

I'll appreciate more inputs on which area you are stuck in so that I can improve on it:
Is it how to even get started? Would a step-by-step guide help?
Is it you're not sure what cards are available to fill in?

I've fired up my secret lab and working to make the entire process smoother, also create the ability to save and retrieve decks. Also will build on Auunj's guide and work on one incorporated in the file itself. Hopefully will get it all out before BFZ hits Duels.

You mean delete everything when a different deck is selected in row 1? Nope, not really. I guess I just completely misunderstand the purpose of the deck selection in row 1. I think if I select a deck, I should see the cards that it consists of? No? Well, that's the point. The thing is bizarre.

A much belated thanks Auunj. Appreciate the effort.

Hope you don't mind me copying chunks of it into the built-in guide for the next version.

I'll bear in mind all the feedback.

Any volunteers to help me test version 2 before BFZ release?
It's here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lVzkuJTrqgQe6tCFCt8HrStwqOTPmR5x-LLnRPiBosU/edit?usp=sharing

Hopefully it'll be simple enough that even Garren will try

Anthon, of course I don't mind :-)

I'll write some feedback later on the v2 after I've checked it out and thoughts how to make it more user friendly.

I really am liking your tool. My only suggestion would to have a colour icon starting at J11:JXX, I know you can do your initial search by color but if I want to start a deck from scratch and want to base it on lifelink it would be nice to know immediately what colors offer me the most lifelink cards.

Since you already have the color listed on the Card List tab you could do something like the following in cell J11

=vlookup(F26, 'Card List'!$A:$B,2,False)

That or even do it in a hidden cell and just change the font &/or cell colour of K11:KXX via conditional formatting that way you know as soon as you do you your search you can see which cards are which.

Here is an example, I did the vlookup in column V and then did a conditional format of K11:K80, I just did formatting for U and B for testing I left the conditional format window open. Not sure what to do about multi color cards though.

Hi snwkill! Thanks a lot for the feedback. You make it look easy to do, I'm adding it to my to-dos. :hand:

Unfortunately, I'm very busy with work these days and whatever free time not with my kids is spent coding the cards for BFZ now that they are out.

Please be patient!

I'm going without sleep to bring this live!

Here's the updated Duels Planner with BFZ cards:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xsvKNKffAnlDSYFZdHfr0zgycVujhwhLKGBq47obmOo/edit?usp=sharing

Let me know if you spot any bugs or issues. I must admit testing has not been very rigorous. I'm not really playing the game now either, especially since I'm on iOS and the expansion is still not out for me yet. :(

snwkill: I've added in the feature you've requested as well.

Hey man thanks for your work really appreciate it :)

I'm trying to post I deck I made using your planner but when I copy the box to be posted to NGA it doesn't seem to translate well over to the forum.

Look:

Hi Troklo. Sorry to hear about that. But I can't replicate your error.

Can you give me your deck list so I can take a look? You can share you workbook with me too which will make it easier.

This is what it should look like:
