OrcishLibrarian has just posted the article "Legends of the Waste, Week 1" in Expanded Multiverse/M:EM Serial.

Comment on it here!

This is the best thing ever. Here's hoping this spawns a new generation of Jakkard fans.

For those looking for more Wild Waste goodness (and don't mind spoilers for the current storyline!), check out Jakkard: Wild Cards in my signature, a Jakkard-themed supplemental product for NGA Constructed.

It's there. You probably went to the column archives instead of the article by accident.

no, the front-page excerpt. the text box is three times as long as the rest of them, I'm guessing they forgot to add it and it's one of the auto-generated ones.

Glad you like it, CKY! I'll confess to being kind of crazy happy about this, myself. I really hope that people who maybe haven't seen these stories yet will take a look, and hopefully they'll find something to enjoy.

Seconded, thirded, and fourthed. CKY's Wild Cards are great, great. great, and I cannot recommend them enough!

I actually did set that excerpt; it's long, but, for the very first entry, I didn't want to cut the story off until we at least got to the name of the plane.

If the length is bothering people, I can keep them shorter in the future.

You could use a snippet from later in the story like

Quote:
Fisco clenched his teeth, and loaded the bullets into the gun.

He was going back to Jakkard, and there was going to be hell to pay. Fisco was just going to make sure hell got what it was due.

That shows the name of the plane and the protagonist, and the fact that there is at least one gun.

That would be a good one. I'll change it later today.

Thanks for the assist, Knight!

or just a non-quote summary. I haven't read the story yet so I can't provide one, but a couple sentences introducing the action for the week.

I would cut up the summary you have at the beginning of the article:

Jakkard is riddled with stories. Some of these stories are doomed to fade away, like so much dust on the wind. Others are destined to grow into legends. In our first Expanded Multiverse serial, we’ll recount the stories that made these denizens of Jakkard into legends.

Just a suggestion.

I still remember reading this. I haven't read too many works out of M:EM, but this one is probably my favorite.

when I heard serial I was sort of expecting shorter. at the top it says "Parts 1 and 2", maybe in the future just do one part at a time? or not if other people don't agree, but it's still pretty dauntingly long for me.

Thanks for the feedback, Razor.

My thinking was that, for the very first week, I wanted to make sure that we got people into the thick of things, and so I posted the first two parts. In general, going forward, I'm probably going to target something closer to 3,000-4,000 words for each installment.

That figure is bound to jump around a little bit on a week-to-week basis, based on where the natural cliffhangers fall in the various stories. But that seems like a pretty good amount to bite off each week.

Oh wow this is happening. I have yet to fully proofread Two Bullets, or for that matter the stores that are going to be in this serial. Two Bullets will still probably go for a long while, since it's a 48-page work.

Yup -- there's enough "Two Bullets" to carry us for many a week. :)

Yeah, I believe it was, for a long time, the longest work in the Archive. But man, it's just so good!

I really like Fisco in general, because he is a clear protagonist without being a good guy. I think it's important to have protagonists we can root for even if we don't agree with everything they stand for, or that they stood for in the past *coughcoughNissacough*.
