How does insisting that control decks run control cards constitute rigidity?

And comparing Colossus to Nightfire Giant is like night and day. Colossus is huge, can't be gang-blocked, grows itself, and requires no additional mana investment to be worth its price tag. I still wouldn't jam it in a control deck, though. The same goes for Nightfire.

If you want to play a Grixis Midrange thingy then go for it.

So exceeding 3 wincons makes it a midrange deck? Or is it 4? Maybe 5? Where do you draw the line where it stops being control and starts being midrange?

I don't wanna play Grixis at all bc blue adds nothing worth a damn except Ja Boy and possibly mill. Black has better draw (which normally blue would handle), and blue has 1 good lategame creature (Disciple) and another meh creature (Alhammeret). Blue also has no good counterspells.

blue is the only colour I am not playing at all so far this iteration (and i have most or all of Blue's rares and mythics). I think it's terrible this time out.

Well then CLEARLY you're playing a mill/midrange deck as you have exceeded your maximum allowable wincons as deemed by Lord Hakeem the 928th.

@Barney: There's some decent stuff in blue.. but yeah, I think it's the weakest color at the moment. Disperse, Jhessian Thief, Ja Boy, Spy Network, Disciple, Tutelage, and Whirller Rogue are the cream of the crop. The rest is meh. The counterspells are offensively bad.

I stopped building decks more than twenty years ago when some "friend " threw my control -burn deck, "walls and balls " across the room. Now I'm a player.

Alright this is my offering to you guys and it is utter jank. This is nowhere near a competitive deck and I suspect BfZ will bring better grixis opportunities, nevertheless here she is

Hymn to Bolas
(1)
4 x fiery impulse
2 x bone splinters
(2)
4 x perilous myr
4 x twin bolt
(3)
1 x liliana, heretical healer
3 x fleshbag marauder
3 x artificer's epiphany
3 x read the bones
(4)
2 x thopter spy network
1 x languish
(5)
1 x disciple of the ring
2 x possessed skaab
3 x cruel revival
1 x necromantic summons

Land
5 x island
5 x swamp
4 x mountain
2 x drowned catacomb
2 x sulfur falls
2 x dragonskull summit
1 x foundry of the consuls
1 x dimir guildgate
1 x rakdos guildgate
1 x evolving wilds

I've considered removing the languishes entirely seeing as how I can usually keep the board clear. And those spy networks are usually what I'm digging for, I know it looks like trash and it truthfully is but I just can't see myself offering "My take" on these tired archetypes every dual colored deck pretty much builds itself and I just wanted a change of pace once in a while

I feel that a "hymn to bolas" deck would require some kind of mind control, considering who we're talking about.
I might try my own hand at it once BFZ comes out (steal ALL the Ulamogs).

alright boys time for more cruelty

Heil Bolas: Nightfire Edition

3 x Fiery Impulse
1 x Jace, Vryn's Prodigy
4 x Alchemist's Vial
2 x Disperse
2 x Twin Bolt
3 x Jorubai Murk Lurker
3 x Fleshbag Marauder
3 x Sphinx's Tutelage
4 x Artificer's Epiphany
2 x Languish
1 x Disciple of the Ring
3 x Nightfire Giant
2 x Cruel Revival
2 x Necromantic Summons

4 x Island
5 x Swamp
4 x Mountain
2 x Drowned Catacomb
2 x sulfur falls
2 x Dragonskull Summit
2 x Izzet Guildgate
4 x Evolving Wilds

Alright real quickNightfire giant seems okay, at least better then Erebos's Titan.

the Disperse were originally in there just to buy time, save your own tutelege from mean old enchantment removal and to kill auras. but if thing are way to aggressive for you I do recommend replacing them with the other 2 twin bolts or reave soul whichever you perfer

decks game plan:

a) win through sheer inevitability cause of control and tutelege
b) strong 5 drops just taking over the game, so your disciple and your Nightfire Giants
c) Necromantic summons

and yes that is 25 lands and no it's not a joke, I still get mana screwed sometimes with that much

Needs more win conditions.

I'm not feeling Alchemists Vial/Artificer's Epiphany/Tutelage/Disperse/Necromantic Summons

I'd be more like:

+3 Telling Time
+4 Read the Bones
+2 Embermaw Hellion
+2 Gilt Leaf Winnower
+1 Chandra
+1 Twin Bolt
+2 Red burn spells.. preferably instants.. for Chandra flipping.

oh now you want chandra huh

I could see the gilt leafs doing work, but I do think the alchemist vial/ epiphany is better then telling time/read the bones

I like being able to chose the cards as opposed to just getting random cards.

Of course I want Chandra! I like red-based control.. and she's my favorite Planeswalker in Duels. Her and Gideon are the only ones that aren't durdle-y as F.
