the forums keep telling me there's new messages in the front page thread. which I could ignore except that it lights up the meatboard and I'm very used to a clear meatboard so it's really distracting being unable to clear it.

it's also still doing that thing announcements do where when you ask it for unread posts it just takes you to the last page instead. this leads to a bunch of unnecessary scrolling and some missed messages.

Yeah. Global announcements are pretty broken.

In all seriousness I've also been having that problem with the announcements, and I'm going to take your response as a "I don't understand why it's doing that" rather than a "I'm not going to fix it". Not that the problem comes up all that often.

It's been that way since the beginning, and no one's ever found the fix for it.

But, I do want to say that I think the problem will be coming up more often for a little while. The Staff have been working on rolling out re-structures, adding content like subforums, working on the Front Page, and are more active than we have been in a while taking on suggestions and rolling out announcements for the various sections that are affected. As a whole, I hope we keep this train rolling, and have many more causes to do Global Announcements and get community feedback.

Yes, thank you Kiki for clarifying my excessively-glib comment. :)

Global announcements are pretty annoying from an implementation perspective because they're a post (which is inherently bound to a particular forum) that's displayed in places other than that forum (in fact, in every forum). Plus, it needs to alert users when there's an unread post in the announcement thread. phpbb tries to compromise by marking the first visible forum as having-unread-messages, but for confusing and obnoxious implementation reasons does a terrible job of actually updating the 'read' flag.

I think it might work better when you access the thread via its actual-parent forum (for the reorg thread, the Metaboard) but am not sure.

Sorry guys.

Sorry. I feel I may have come across as overly critical, which was not my intent, either. I figured it was a problem you all have already tried fixing, but I didn't want to ignore the post completely. It was too easy to misconstrue the short message.

There's a typo in the forum description for the "Play-by-Post" forum. It says "needs" when it should be "need"

this is happening again. still don't know what it is. I remember the workaround from last time so I'll just do that for now but like what is it?

:duel:

PS: nope, the workaround of cutting the post in half isn't working this time. heeeeeeelp.

Use more characters? Dividing 0 by 2, is still 0 razor.

Beyond that try restarting your browser. I had the problem once, and (though I don't remember what I did to fix it), I feel like that was it...
Or copy and paste into word, then change a few things, then copy and paste it back.

I got a weird one here. Whenever I copy and paste pre-coded info from Google Docs into a Forum thread any card with apostrophes in their name don't auto-card. I have to edit the post, delete the s and the ', then re-type the 's to fix it.

Even weirder, If I have the same card in two different locations in the same post, editing the first instance of the 's corrects all other instances of that card in the post.

I'd like to report that I've been having serious issues getting the forums to load yesterday (the 23rd) and today (the 24th). It seems to be a me-specific issue since I've been in communication with RavenoftheBlack and he reports having no issues.

This is a problem from my iPad (Safari and Chrome), and my laptop (Chrome, Firefox, and Opera). I don't know if maybe my IP is doing something stupid?

Just so you know, things seem to be working fine for me now, but there was a period of about 3 days that I couldn't get about anything to load.

Interesting. For some reason the bbcode parser is removing the entire message. Investigating.

so if I break it up to the one before YL's message that'll post, and everything after that will also post, but they won't post together and YL's post will post so I don't really know.

Yeah, I found that splitting it at storyteller's submission got it to work. Still not sure of the root cause but it's late so dropping it for now.

Currently, all banner images (in the Papyrus style) are showing as imgur.com error messages. "The image you are requesting does not exist or is no longer available."

I checked, and it is only the Papyrus theme that has this problem.

What Aaarggh said.

Unless, that IS the new banner. It's too hipster for me, but it is oddly alluring.

Huh, apparently we never moved the Papyrus banner onto local hosting. Oops. Now to try to find a copy...

[edit] OK, it's not quite what it was, but at least we're no longer tied to imgur. :)
