A+ idea, I greatly support this plan

Progress update:

Layout: Done. We have the layout of the front page all mapped out, and I believe all the necessary features implemented.
Content: Done. We have 8 weekly features lined up all with confirmed Czars. We're of course happy to reopen this discussion if more feature ideas pop up but for now we have enough to move forward.
Aesthetic: Welder and Barinellos are working on this and should hopefully have it soon.

The last question that remains is scheduling. While the exact line-up of what goes where is fairly arbitrary beyond keeping similar things somewhat separate, we do need to decide whether or not we want weekend content. Like I said we have 8 weekly features, so we have enough to do one a day with one doubled-up day, but if no one's reading on weekends it might make more sense to cram those 8 into 5 weekdays with three doubled-up days. You folks are the immediate target audience, so what do you think? Do you want weekend programming or would you prefer more weekday stuff?

With 8 features I'd probably double up MWF

The NGAC people have enough to do content 7 days a week for years already, but I think that having more content on weekdays is better. I personally am normally not around very often on weekends because of magic events, and I'm not sure if the data on traffic is readily available comparing weekend to weekday stuff, but I'm sure weekends get much less activity.

If it's possible, some minor content on weekends with more substantial content on weekdays is an approach. Something that's easy to catch up on if you miss the weekend.

yeah, I think weekdays makes the most sense. I'm online for weekends but activity drops pretty hard.

I'm in the double up on MWF camp. I think that makes the most sense.

I like MWF doubled up the best. Ideally, MTWTF doubled up would be awesome, but I guess we'd need more content.

Seems pretty unanimous. I'll work out a schedule for the weekdays.

Time for the grand unveiling!

First, let's introduce the Czars:

• OrcishLibrarian will be in charge of M:EM content. This includes the weekly M:EMory as well as a weekly chapter of an M:EM serial.
  
• Shadowchu will be in charge of the competitive Magic content. This includes a weekly article about Constructed theory and one about Limited theory.
  
• Rush_Clasic will be in charge of the NGA Constructed deck of the week.
  
• Razorborne will be in charge of the NGA Constructed daily card, as well as any NGA Constructed set announcements when those happen.
  
• Felbatista will be in charge of the Magic Duels deck of the week.
  
• TPmanW will be in charge of the YMtC Card of the Week, as well as Card of the Month and Year events when those occur.
  
• Squinty_Eyes will be in charge of the Weekly Deck Challenge, as well as the weekly Campaign Chronicles from the roleplaying section.
  
• GobO_Scarlet will be in charge of maintaining the PBP Gamefinder.

Now let's talk schedule. I had a couple concerns in putting this together. First, I wanted to keep similar things separate as much as possible. We have three features that are just a deck and some information about it, and three that are just stories, so I divided those up for monday, wednesday, and friday. My other major concern was minimizing the delay between when content was generated and when it went up, for the things that generated them naturally. The M:EMory and CotW both generate content on Sunday, so I put the M:EMory on Monday, the next day with content. For CotW, TP and I talked about getting a short blurb written for the card by its designer, so I put that on Tuesday to give him time to collect that. With that in mind, the content schedule will be as follows:



If anyone sees any problems here, please let me know as soon as possible. Also, if you'd like to write for any of these, you can get started now. We don't have a concrete launch date, but given where we're at progress-wise I could see launching within the next week or two so the Czars are going to need some content soon.

I feel bad about not contributing when I could, but I would probably just ruin everything with my laziness so I'm sure it's for the better that I don't.

I'm not sure if it's appropriate to call it 'active' just yet.

By the time the content is needed, it will be. I plan on making a post today, but I've been very, very busy the past two days. Since it's a weekly thing, we'll have about a month's worth of articles to hit before the Candlewick one is needed, and since we're still potentially a couple of weeks out from the launch anyways, there will be loads of time to get it rolling.

About the launch date:

While this isn't set in stone yet, the general chatter among the mods is that we're so close the the site's birthday that it'd be a shame to miss that anniversary, so we're intending to launch on the 22nd. That's a Tuesday, but we'd like to also have the Monday content ready to launch that day as well, to give people a little more content to consume right at the get-go. Content Czars, it's probably best to start collecting entries fairly soon, so you've got a backlog when the time comes. (Except for those of you doing the weekly generated things, you can just wait and post whatever the thing is going to be.) But if you'd like to submit to any of the content sections, please start writing and submitting to the Czars now. And if you have something that you think is appropriate but doesn't fit any of the categories listed, feel free to PM them to me for Feature Article consideration, we have a space for those as well. (We expect to have between 1 and 3 of those per week.)
