Much appreciated, Welder.

This will give us some more diversity and dramatics down in PbP, where post color matters.

Merged the chat request thread into this one, for ease of reference for us.

Chat is something I have considered.

Pros: a great place to be spammy and chit chat, would also reduce needless chatter in the forum proper.

Cons: almost completely impossible to moderate effectively.

The former is great, and why I considered it in the first place, but the latter is hardly trivial, and I don't know if there is a way to make it work.

It would be cool if I can give my shadows shadows and make a big gay rainbow.

Depends on what software we use, I know that the if you can get a a hold of the old MSN chat network software, you can use bots along with built in stuff to moderate it

If you could place a unique chat in each forum, that would potentially be best. I know in the Magic forums people would really enjoy a chat dedicated to playing cards, kinda like the discussion in the Play by Post Setup area. It'd be nice to have it separate from the Off Topic Room, which would probably be jammed with spam and randomness.

You can also just have a disclaimer stating that the chat is not actively moderatorated- just like PM's aren't.

Kay so this got brought up in CoC discussion and I was encouraged to share and get further ideas so here goes.

Some YmtC guys were discussing the idea of a searchable database of sorts for all our wonderful (and often terrible) card ideas. Having a central workbase where cards can be collected, searched, categorized and edited could be of great help to user's working on their own designs as well as any kind of collaborative projects or other fun ideas.
Getting the cards in the system is annoying. Some people suggested using a bot to scan through ymtc threads and autoupload, and while that's a great way to make sure everything gets in, some people love to format their cards differently and it might make processing through all entries and verifying false information difficult. A separate interface for submitting cards one by one makes sure only what you want goes in but users are lazy. Having some kind of option to submit a card to the database as you post would be a cool feature.
Cards should be searchable with some basic filtering options. Cards can have an original contributor who can do what they wish with their own cards. They can then be grouped into custom Sets, either for personal records or collaborations. While some people might have issue with it, I would like to see the cards all publicly available and free to use/modify, at least options to limit their use if desired. I'd imagine the M:EM team looking through cards to find ones that match a set, concept, or story they are working on and adapt it with their own art and flavor if necessary. Cards can also have ratings or additional notes/awards, such as for CotM and contest winners.
Being able to pull either a single card or selection of cards (including full sets/cubes) in MWS (or whatever the equivalent is nowadays that would allow custom cards) would also be dandy.

I understand this is a huge undertaking of course so I plan to be patient and realistic.

Would you want it to be literally every card ever, or would you want it to be more like M:EM where stuff has to go through sort of a voting procedure to get in?

It actually surprises me that you don't have a voting committee thing like that for YMTC already in some ways, and it might be worth considering.

I can also see why you'd want to keep things very open and free form, though, since card design takes so much collaboration and revision.

I really like the idea of being able to trawl through the card lists for stuff M:EM can use! You might want to autoinclude specific permission levels for sharing, like we do for characters and settings, just so there's no misunderstandings. But yeah, it's always been hard for me, at least, to pinpoint what I should try to pull from YMTC to bring into M:EM so a central database of sorts where I could see larger-scale projects, in particular, would be fantastic.

With a card database we could eventually have core sets each year and ymtc standard and eternal formats :O

I would like most of the cards to get in or at least the ones that user's submit themselves. YmtC is extremely casual, like a really big creative posting game. We don't really have a lot of structure or resources for big sets and most are content with just posting the occasional idea since sets can be such work. We have regular nominations for Card of the Week and Card of the Month but other than that nothing of the sort that M:EM has; someone posts a card, if its a contest it gets graded/commented on and if someone really likes it they'll nominate it, but that's usually it and we move onto another. Thousand monkeys thousand typewriters deal. I think we're okay with that though. I am mostly thinking forward for the future of the site when we have more members and more people active and interested in such things.

If you guys ever managed to get a card database running for YMtC, I'd certainly be willing to be the one to add the cards into it. I actually find data entry kinda fun.

I've always wanted a "create your own standard". Then if we could as a forum put together a MTW package, that would be so unbelievably cool. Actually could be a huge draw for the forum to have an alternate reality format.
