Love Soul Eater. Totally in the top faves of manga/anime for me. I like the idea, maybe a world where people try to control/influence the future by directly observing the past? You could make the black hole phenomenon a "natural" effect of the plane.

I know on first draft the idea was to have said vortex be the consequence of some major spell gone wrong, but I don't... quite care anymore. It's not something that I'd like to work on even though it's a concept that interests me. The idea of this thread is for anyone who reads it to get inspired and/or adopt the submitted ideas, so if you like it, knock yourself out.

On the side: I kind of liked Soul Eater on my first watch, but I had two major problems with it that I couldn't be made to watch it again (it's currently airing on Toonami and I'm ignoring it): A) There are a TON of cool concepts dropped everywhere, but nothing is ever expanded upon -- for instance, Mr. Mosquito should have a lot more forms; B) I cannot stand the English voice actors after watching it subbed on Youtube.

Don't fight expectations and resonance. It's a fool's errand. Play to the audience.

Soul Eater has too much character for its own good is the largest problem I have. Everyone is so wacky and kooky, that I just don't give a crap about the characters. I can get behind the stylishness, but I just want to throttle about everybody on the show.

I don't think I follow you. I merely mentioned how I originally envisioned it, and then said that it's up for grabs and freely malleable (maybe that last part wasn't so clear?)

On Soul Eater: It's a conversation for another thread

Creating a black hole or what have you? Might as well embrace what people will envision and play with it.

But... that's not what this thread is about...

Okay, I'm going to make this statement for me and only me, to apply to any posts I have made previously on this thread or will make in the future on this thread: I relinquish creative control over the idea when I submit it to this thread. Any idea I submit here will be freely up for grabs to anyone who wishes to use it, in any way they see fit.

I've had this idea for goblins for quite a while, but haven't really had an opportunity to use it, so feel free to incorporate it into your works as your see fit:

Goblin, in the dragon's tongue, means "mucous" or "snot." Goblins are constructed from the sinus discharge of dragons and given life by a dragon's elemental fire. They serve as eyes and ears for the dragons, reporting back on the geopolitics of the "insert your preferred type of location here." Dragons regularly purge their sinuses to keep their flame ducts clean. Rather than have the mucous and snot mucking up their dwellings, they created goblins. The greatest trick the dragons have played is convincing the modern world* that they don't exist.

*Modern world meaning whatever plane or setting you might be writing in.

Bipedal sapient Frogs.

... I don't think I have to say anything else really.

They can team up with Turtlefolk.

How are we on introducing non-established races?

Mostly it seems "have a very very good reason" and "make a really good pitch".

Weren't the Chelonians turtle-folk?

This idea's more suited for a contemporary setting:

In order to use mana, a spellcaster must regularly replenish the internal lining of his, her, or its blood vessels. The only way to do so is by vivisecting another spellcaster and transferring the endothelia via some kind of science fiction-y machine. So not too many people use mana or cast spells. In less domesticated parts of the world, more people use mana. Merfolk get them the equipment they need and teach them how to use it. Otherwise, these scattered tribes of wildlings are pretty isolated from the rest of the world.

Warlords and would-be dictators have tried to invade these wildlings' land for various reasons. The rest of the world took notice and started sending in their armies to take the lands for their resources. The wildlings' use of mana, spellcasting, and knowledge of their native terrain allowed them to outwit and overpower armies of gun-toting soldiers. So magic is sort of superior to the rest of the world's technology. The various news networks downplay this stuff to keep people from reverting to the barbarism associated with magic (the vivisections and blood sacrifices). But mostly they're keeping magic's superiority on the down low because it would hurt their politicians' corporate donors. This, in turn, would cause a lot of politicians to lose what amounts to a juicy retirement pension. So magic is BAD. And if you use magic, YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD.

Hmm, would anybody be mad if I stole this idea for my Pathfinder game? I like the idea a lot. Not that I'll get a chance to use it anytime soon, but I'd love to keep it on the backburner....

Bound Fallen Angels.
I know these are a fairly stock trope, but we've never had a significant fallen angel presence past individuals in Magic. A select handful, but never enough to generate a cult.

Ooze sapients, mostly so we can call them the Gelatine.

A snow world. Technically one sort of exists, but we could have one... okay, so it's actually the next stop on my docket, but c'mon!..

Go for it! It's such a free form idea anyway.

Are you posting stuff for your game to these forums? I'd be curious to see how you use it.

Also, Storm World deserves some sort of further examination for sure... I love discovering old underutilized cards like that. See: Timmerian Fiends.

All world information that the players have discovered is here. Currently, there's not a lot that has happened since the players have only been active in the world for a few hours at this point. But as they dsicover things, it all gets added in along with NPCs, locations and other misc. things.

An overview of their story is here, and gets updated every few days. In fact, I need to go update it now after the destruction of The Bridge House. Man, that poor Inn didn't stand a chance. Oh well.

Also, being a sandbox of a world, it's free to anyone who wants to join anytime, though it may take a few days to work you in. So if anyone wants, the signup thread is here, and I'm always happy to take on new players. If we get enough, I'll run two completely separate campaigns side by side in the world. So check it out!

Oh, you're running it on here? Awesome! :D It's so great that PBP is taking off on this site.

Yeah, anytime we can provide interesting snippets of ideas I'm sure no one would mind you taking them, even with other M:EM stuff. The whole point is to provide a space for collaboration anyway.

You should join up a game or two! DS is starting a new one now and sign-ups just opened...

I'd really like to see a plane where the dominant icons are lammasu, Sphinx, and Manticore. Ideally, we'd find some analog for black and green to round it all out. (and by that I mean epic bearded winged animals world)

For that matter, a djinn, angel, demon, efreet world would be good too, but green effs that up again too.
Freakin green...

In a world where everything flies, it's mechanically as though nothing flies...

Anywho, why not use Spiders with reach to balance?
