Board state is stable but active both players at/near 20 life
I have a Shambling Ghoul and dragonfodder tokens and an Eyeblight Assassin, he has Subterranean scout and Akroan Sergeant out with an Evolutionary Leap at the ready
I have 4 lands Avaricious Dragon, Unholy Hunger, Seismic Elemental in hand and just top decked Rapid Bloodsucker.

Do you defy logic and 3 for 1 yourself in hopes your G/R opp doesn’t 2 for 1 himself back with a wild insticts? Otherwise he would need a the Rare Exquisite firecraftor Land + Ravaging Blaze to kill the dragon clean w/o 2 for 1ing himself.
Do you Defy Logic and not cast anything on T5 and not advance your board in hopes of hitting any land to play some of the 5 drops? 2/3 hold off everything currently so I’m not taking damage while waiting but Leap will start finding him goodies

I chose to play the dragon out and crossed my fingers. He took over the game but my opp revealed Chandra’s Ignition off a Llanowar Empath trigger and my Dragon become my destroyer being empty handed on my opp turn he was free to Titanic growth his Sergeant then Ignition my board away. I was dead the next attack He was at 1 life

how would you of handled turn 5?

After typing this I realized i'm discussing a Mythic that a majority of you probably will never have played with in draft. Kind of defeats the issue of finding the correct play when no one will ever have the chance to

Doesn't sound like you were winning that game no matter what you did, honestly. I probably would have just gone with the dragon and taken to the offensive with it. Chump block the Sargent.

I mean 1) with 3 five-drops I'd be running 18 lands and would hold off casting Avarice in the event I drew one and could play my hand and 2) he can't attack into your board state so what's the rush? Leap is OK but it's not like limited decks have amazing creatures.

I think if the choice is between winning the game if your opponent does nothing versus losing the game if your opponent kills your threat I'd chose the first... but that's not the choice. You could've waited a turn, yah?

I would not play the dragon. What for?

You have two great cards in hand, probably among the best in your deck, that you need to throw away if you play it. All you need is a land to start destroying them. Leap puts cards in hand, but also gets rid of any annoying non-creature cards that might take away your board advantage. Did you know about the rare? Probably not. If you did, you hold the perfect answer to it with Unholy Hunger. Which also answers a fight card/combat trick, netting you card advantage. He is also not black, so that he can't make you discard the bomb.

In the end, you lost to a two-card combo involving a bomb rare. That is very unlikely, but as you point out, it might have been a common. Dragon is a Johnny card, powerful, seductive, dangerous to both players. Spikes take away a part of the danger by not sacrificing their hand to it.

Did he play the sergeant last turn, or on an earlier turn? If he played the sergeant on an earlier turn, he would have probably instincts'd your ghoul and renowned his sergeant if he could, indicating that he probably doesn't have it, and you should yolo out dragon.

I would probably not discard Unholy Hunger, Seismic Elemental and Rabid Bloodsucker. What cards are you hoping to draw that are better than those? It's not like the dragon is more likely to die if you play it later; your opponent is RG, so probably just doesn't have anything.

You said your opponent isn't attacking, so they probably just waste a bunch of mana activating Evolutionary Leap and you kill whatever they finally play.
